Everquest Troll SorcerorToy Vault Announces its First Wave of EverQuest Action Figures
Toy Vault, the company responsible for producing the acclaimed Lord of the Rings and Astro City lines, has announced their first assortment of action figures based on the hit, online computer game, EverQuest.
"The challenge in creating a line of toys based on a computer game," said Jon Huston, Creative Director for Toy Vault, "Is to produce figures that look like the game characters, but with an added level of realism and extra detail that may not show in the original computer animation. Our EverQuest action figures are not only going to meet that challenge but surpass it. Our ultimate aim," said Huston, "is to bring to the marketplace, the most realistically rendered figures ever based on a popular computer game."
Toy Vault will launch its new EverQuest line in autumn 2000, with an initial wave of four figures. These detailed figures will feature seven points of articulation and will be on a scale of six feet to seven inches tall. Regular version and specialty versions will be produced for each figure.

X-Men DVD soon?
According to sources close to TheDigitalBits.com, the X-Men could be released on DVD shortly. Rumour has it that the DVD will include the film in an anamorphic widescreen version for all of you with those widescreen televisions, plus dual Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks. Extras rumoured to be included on the DVD are deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurette, artwork, Easter Eggs (hidden menus and images) and more.

URwired.com ceases trading

European-based Internet games and DVD e-tailer, URwired.com has ceased trading.
"Unfortunately the funding needed to keep the company running was not made available to us in time so we had to shut URwired.com down," commented Mattias Lamotte, Managing Director and founder.
"Ironically. we had some exciting deals in the pipeline with some big name companies which we were unable to sign because of our financial situation."
The company has now closed leaving 24 staff positions redundant.


Inspector Gadget calls again
Alex Zamm has been tapped to co-rewrite with William Robertson and will likely helm the direct-to-video sequel to DisneyÕs block-busting Inspector Gadget, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No roles have been cast, and it is not expected that the original filmÕs lead cast members, including Matthew Broderick, will return for the sequel. Directed by David Kellogg, Inspector Gadget grossed $97.4 million in the US alone in 1999.
The sequel is expected to feature G-2, a female version of Gadget who competes with him for the respect of the police department as he tries to stop his arch-rival Claw from using a time-freeze laser to steal from the Federal Reserve.

Alloy Online Boasts Buffy Celebrity Cover

Alloy Online revealed its Back to School print catalogue on 10 July 2000 with its first celebrity cover featuring the WB's Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars' James Marsters, (Spike), and Emma Caulfield, (Anya).
Alloy's autumn catalogue will include content and Web promotions with the 'Buffy' stars and hot teen celebrities such as Mena Suvari and Jason Biggs. The Alloy catalogue will also feature an interview with Mena Suvari and Jason Biggs, both of whom will be starring in the upcoming teen flick, Loser, due to premiere this summer in the US. Alloy has signed on to be the official Web Partner for the Sony film in hopes to drive teens to the box office.
Also included in the catalogue is an interview with its cover stars, who was Alloy's Chat of the month on August 3rd. Alloy Online is a leading Web site and direct marketer providing community, content, commerce and entertainment to the 70 million teens known as Generation Y.
The Alloy.com web site features its own e-zine and in addition to its print catalogue, Alloy has further expanded its media presence through the establishment of Alloy Productions, AlloyBooks and Alloy Entertainment.

Hugo Award Nominees Announced

The Hugo Award nominees were recently announced. The Hugo Award is one of the most respected honours in science fiction, awarded each year to the best in the genre.

The nominees for best novel are:

A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear
A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

This year's winners will be announced at the World Science Fiction Convention in Chicago, Illinois, 31 August to 4 September 2000.
