Your quick guide to
the ways of the zones...
Avatar
A graphical representation
of a real person in the Virtual Zones.
ATM
Automated Transaction Machine. Just like real life,
you can can check how healthy your finances are, deposit
and withdraw some Tokens to buy those all important accessories.
Avaterra
Avaterra.com inc. is the company behind the Virtual
Zones experience.
Artists
You may come across some avatars with Artist in front
of their name. These are Avatars who design and build new
zones and objects. They are also active community members
so feel free to talk to them about the zones.
Apartment
One of the best parts of the VZones experience is being
able to build your own customised space within the world.
There are various apartment buildings to choose from with
a number of different options available depending on how
many Tokens you have to spare. In VZSciFi, your aparrtment
doubles as a spaceship, enabling you to travel between the
different worlds in the Oreel star system. An avatar's apartment
is commonly known as a turf
.
Bingo
A popular game among many VZoners! You are certain to
come across it, even in the Expressways...
Bodychanger
There are six different body types to choose from for
your avatar, three male and three female. Visit the Relics
Room in Technos
and find a bodychanger to purchase a new body type.
Client
The technical name for your VZones software that is
installed on your personal computer. It's a "client" of
the VZones "server".
Caretakers
An avatar who serves the community of VZconnections,
VZSciFi and other upcoming VZones. Assists the World Managers
in building the virtual zones, implement events, and helps
oversee the development of each VZone.
Connectoid
UK-only application for PC users which combines Internet
dial up with the VZones client software.
ESP
Inworld, you can send private messages to your friends.
This message will reach them whichever locale they happen
to be in. If they are not inworld at the time then you have
the option of sending the message by ESP email for them
to view when they next come into world.
Freeplanet
VZSciFi's build-your-own web pages software allows members
to construct their own web site using images from inworld
and become part of the virtualzones website.
Guides
Volunteer avatars who have a lot of experience inworld
and are there to offer help to you inworld. Find a guide
by paging from the help menu on your client software.
Ghosts
You will often see a little eye graphic in the top right
hand corner of your screen inworld. This represents a ghost
or ghosts. Ghosts are avatars not visible to other users
but they can still watch and listen to what is going on
and also send ESP messages. If a locale has more than the
allocated maximum number of avatars present then you will
automatically become a ghost when entering the area.
Hatchery
The place where new avatars are born. The beginning
of your adventure.
Habitat
An early avatar community, search the web for interesting
reading.
Inworld
Refers to being inside an Avaterra virtual zone or world.
LOL
An acronym often used inworld which stands for laughing
out loud.
LMAO
Laughing my a** off.
ROFL
Rolling on floor laughing.
Server
The technical name of the machine that runs the codes
and scripts to display VZones. It communicates to all the
clients logged into it. When you Enter VZones, you're logging
into the VZones server located in Santa Clara, California
at Avaterra.com.
Spray
Head Sprays, Body Sprays, Turf Sprays; all available
to purchase inworld to decorate yourself and your Turf.
They are inexpensive and great fun.
Token
The inworld currency. You earn tokens with time spent
in a VZone. Currently it's 100 tokens per hour (up to five
hours per session) for time spent as an avatar. They are
paid out every hour of online time completed. Check your
nearest ATM for your account balance.
Turf
An avatar's personal space usually in an apartment block.
You can control who you let in and out and also how you
want it to look, that is as long as you pay your rent!
Vendroid
Found throughout the Zones, these vending machines sell
everything from turf furnishings, avatar heads, accessories,
food and drink and other more unusual items.
VZT
Is the same as the Pacific Time Zone. Many events in
the zones are announced in "VZT." The front page of this
web site will tell you the current VZT.
World
Managers
Manage all aspects of inworld needs.
Waking
World
In reference to Real Life and being out of the context
of a world or zone.
