Exploring VZSciFi...
Once Avatars have been created, they arrive in SPACE CITY, where they can be directed to a spaceship hanger where they can purchase their own spaceships (the SciFi Worlds equivalent of other VZ apartments). These can be enhanced through reward and purchase of new equipment, or even traded in for bigger and better machines that will enable more access to the various worlds. In the first instance we are planning five worlds with several locales on each for the Avatars to explore.
These spaceships are but one means of travelling to the Zone's planets and other locales: for those Zoners unwilling to purchase a spaceship, a unique travel tube links all the planets and moons to the initial site.

Required at Lauch: Space City - The Mall - The Alien Bar - The Library -- The Spacecraft Hangar

Future Enhancements: The Science Museum -- Command Centre -- Living Quarters --
Space City (Orell)
Look-wise, this should be pretty modern in these central areas where the tubes launch and the mall, alien bar etc. are. Let's give Space City a bit of history -- there could eventually be some old areas. Imagine the city as being built outward from its original 'core' -- the spacecraft hangar would be an early part of the place, as would the command area, library and alien bar.

Future Requirements
This locale might eventually include a 'Meet and Greet' robot who would identify visitors and explain the services of the library and would also provide information about the VZSciFi partners who make up the library area, including the SFF.
Eventually, as more partners came on board for this area - virtual book companies, for example - this information might be devolved to an object on the robot's desk.

Website issue: This information point (linked to the VZSciFi web pages. Althogh some pages can be read by anyone, the full site can only be acceseed by password. (Jon Hill to write code).

The password is issued on completion of a short marketing survey.
VZoners can request an access password which will be issued on completion of an e-mail questionaire issued at the point when someone signs up for VZSciFi, or on accessing the pages through this link (to be decided).
This will help us build a profile of our users for advertising and marketing purposes and include room for questions regarding future possible content.

Library Workshop Room
TO BE BUILT

This will be a dedicated workshop area for guest speakers organised by the SFF and VZSciFi. This could hold between 7 - 10 avatars, plus ghosts.

For the opening this will be the entrance room to the Comics2000 locale and will then be re-dressed for workshop purposes.

The design of this locale to be minimal.

The SFF Workshops to be arranged once per month, with an option to build on this number as familiarity with the technology among users begins to build.
Use of this room would also be booked through the VZSciFi World Manager and preference will of course be given to partners.

Space City Conference Room
TO BE BUILT
A larger conference room for bigger events. This could house 25 avatars, including guest(s) and moderator, and any number of 'ghosts'. We would aim to have perhaps four major events per year co-organised between SFF and VZSciFi that are specifically part of the SFF program; the conference room would be used by other promoters, promoting traffic through the library locale.
Use of this room would be booked through the VZSciFi World Manager and preference will of course be given to partners.

Future Requirements (June)
Backstage area to 'dress' guests. This will require a recycler and seating. Minimal build -- use this as 'Green Room' in lead up to appearances. Could also be part of Guide area for VZSciFi.

Science Fiction Foundation Room

TO BE BUILT

This could just be a door at start pending deal being agreed. Pending strategic partnership deal with Science Fiction Foundation

This is to be a book-lined room, with perhaps one window to the back of the room featuring some kind of 'revolving animation'. This would of necessity be not too distracting -- various spaceships taking off from the space station/centre perhaps, or a slowly-changing star field.
The room would feature a 'meet and greet' hologram -- again something not too distracting, which would only activate on an avatar's first visit or on being summoned by clicking on an object somewhere in the room. The meet and greet would outline the services of the SFF locale.
The room should will probably feature objects with active web links to :
- the SFF web site and SFF representative web sites
- Subscription /Back Issue Web Page for Foundation and journal sales. Avaterra would monitor click throughs and orders from this site and take a commission on any sales (see below for more details about this)
- the enquiry agent for the SFF archive itself. (Rather than a computer monitor or book, this could be something like a floating crystal ball which opens the web page) These links to be designed with consideration to the limitations on time for processing enquiries, per our discussion regarding the Cunard archive.
- An object promoting an appeal for sponsorship of the SFF

Other objects (books) would offer access to selections of the archive dependent on copyright, such as magazine covers, short story extracts.

Object links to related web sites and authors sites, or perhaps Author of the Month, as nominated by the SFF. (These could be individual books in the room as well as more high-tech objects).
The author links to be arranged in consultation with the respective web sites in an effort to encourage those authors to become involved in the VZSciFi/SFF events programme.

Space City: FUTURE EXTENSIONS
Doors only at present, or not even evident. If present, Locked.

Command Centre and Maintainance-- UK to create and supply
DON'T BUILD YET
Number of locales: TBD
Space City will need some sort of operational command deck - this could comprise an operations viewing room (look could be similar to CnC in B5); battle room (in the unlikely event of hostilities) and the commander's ready room (or similar title) which, as I am a megolomaniac, would be my 'office' for members to visit!
Although there should logically be an engineering section within this area, to co-ordinate cargo movements on the tubes, internal movement, maintainance terams etc. I propose this be off limits to avoid having to build it for now.
The command deck could provide an opportunity for a terrific animation of spacships entering and leaving the station and the skyhook stretching into the distance.

The Science Museum -- UK to create and supply
Depending on a response to SETI or Mars Society offer
Recognising the interest in real science many SF fans have we are seeking to build strategic links between VZSciFi and various science projects such as SETI and The Mars Society. Various locale proposals would fit within this area.
Within the fictional aspect of VZSciFi this area is the last resting place of the Dauntless, the starship that originally brought the first colonists to the Orellian System.

Future Enhancements:
Room for expansion, including addition of new sectors, such as the artists sector, mall etc.
Orell might eventually include a statue of Orell in a smaller square, for example.
