Asking around about this phenomenon, I've discovered that there are several reasons: Sometimes someone just wants to show off a new or rare item that they have. The best way to do that, of course, is to just hold the item in your hand and walk around. If it's a rare item, folks are bound to stop and ask about it ... so, if you own something a little bit unusual, this is a good way to meet people! Some folks like to perform magic tricks with morphing items. These are people who are able to change, for instance, a cup of tea into a teapot when they gesture. And it can be handy to have something a little magical in your hand when you want to practice flight maneuvers: a chest seeming to cut off a head (but, of course, not actually doing hat) is a great magic trick that some perform. There are those who hold snowballs in their hands waiting to pelt an unsuspecting avatar with it. And, of course, folks who hold something in their hands to *avoid* being snowball-pelted. ;) Last, but most assuredly not least, are those who hold something in their hands to avoid being 'frooted.' What, you ask, does it mean to be frooted? Well, it seems that there's a slice of (by now very very old and hard and stale indeed) fruitcake that's being passed around from hand to hand to hand to hand. If you find yourself with the fruitcake in your hand, the idea is to get rid of it as soon as possible by giving it to another, who, of course, must get rid of the fruitcake as soon as possible ... we don't know who wins this game, if anybody ever does, but we've heard many a snicker as the fruitcake passes into the empty hand of an unsuspecting player-avatar. So if you're standing around empty-handed ... and suddenly find yourself holding a piece of candy, or a slice of fruitcake, or an ice-cold snowball ... just remember ... you were warned! ;) ---=== COMMENTARY ===--- ---------------===============<<<<=>>>>===============--------------- TRIBUTE TO AN HONEST AVATAR by Dawna I'm not normally in the habit of spending 1000 tokens on newbies, but I met a very nice fellow, who looked so confused. He had the head of a man, but the body of a woman. After hearing his story and getting to know him a little, I decided that the 1000 tokens I was carrying around would be wisely spent helping the fellow on his first day in WA. His name was Demas-Type, and I bought him a new body. Immediately following the purchase he disappeared, just poof and he was gone. I was immediately suspicious, that I had been conned. Later that day, and many times the following couple of days, I tried paging him. He was obviously in Phantasus, but didn't answer. Sadly, I thought I had thrown away Tokens on a less than worthy fellow. Thankfully, I was wrong. That sweet fellow Demas-Type had stayed on-line day in and day out, until he had earned enough tokens to pay me back!!!!! He just couldn't see my messages while he was so hard at work. I thought I'd share this superb example of integrity with all of you, so you could pat him on the back the next time you run into him in Kymer (and assuage my guilt a little at suspecting such an honorable fellow of wrongdoing in the first place). So....a tip of the hat to you Demas-Type! Dawna ---------------===============<<<<=>>>>===============--------------- WISH TO MORPHEUS submitted by an Avatar Overheard and message captured (with permission of the avatar) this "Wish to Morpheus" was spoken aloud in the Temple, on a bright Phantasus Day: (which could be any day, considering it *IS* Phantasus). I had many dreams and wishes when I came to this island of Kymer. I wished for the perfect head, which I recieved. I dreamed for entry into certain wonderful groups, which came true. But, the ultimate dream and wish, was one that seemed far away. It was to become one of the admired Acolytes. If I became an Acolyte, I would: Continue to help newbies, oldies, and those in-between. Continue to do games as often as I can think of them. Continue to give T's to worthy newbies, just for answering a Kymer question or two, for those in search of a head, or other worthwhile pursuit. Be there for friendship, fun, good times and bad, and M&M's (always M&Ms, a chocoholic here) If I became an Acolyte, it would be my last Kymer dream come true. (This IS the dreamscape, right?) I would be on MORE than now. (considering how much that is, it would be no small feat!!) I would always contribute, whenever I could! So, please, Morpheus, grant my last unanswered wish. Pretty pretty please, consider me. ---------------===============<<<<=>>>>===============--------------- >*< >>*<< >>>*<<< GAMES AND GAMING >>>*<<< >>*<< >*< >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< ANNOUNCING THE RETURN OF MAKE A DEAL! by Acolyte Brynne DATE: Sunday, January 21, 1996 TIME: 11:00 a.m. WAT MAD LOCALE: StarWay Cafe Stage CO-HOST: Acolyte Nicci Yep! MAD is back! And there are two special prizes in two of those MAD chests! One of them is a one-of-a-kind fuzzie, the likes of which has never been seen before in all of Kymer, and the other is the much sought after King Tut head! MAD is a two-part event. 20 dark green chests will be hidden all over Phantasus. You'll know when you spot a MAD chest because it identifies as ... but of course ... MAD_chest! If you try to open it, however, you're in for a surprise! You won't be able to because the MAD chests are locked! Don't even think about pawning it; but if you must try, just get it appraised first. You'll discover it will be *far* more worth your while to come to the StarWay Stage and make a deal with us. The first part of this combo event is for you to hunt all over Phantasus looking for ONE MAD chest. Yes, one! Once you find one, head over to the StarWay Stage where Nicci and I will be waiting to make you a deal on that chest. If you bring two or more MAD chests to us, you'll be asked to choose which one you want and then re-hide the other(s) for some other avatar-hunter to find. We will keep track of who arrives when. We'll let you know you are on our list and then we'll ask you to ghost. If more than one avatar is in body form, the dealing will be halted until we only have *one* avatar on the ground with us. We will call each avatar-hunter to unghost when his/her time to deal arrives. Once you unghost, we'll begin the deal. We'll offer you tokens for your MAD chest. You have two options: you can take the tokens we offer or you can decide to take your chances on the contents of the chest -- which could be one of a number of things: it could be the King Tut head or the special fuzzie; it could be your very own lockable chest; it could be more tokens than we've offered during the deal; it could be a chest containing one of the many Halloween items that are no longer available; it could be filled with an item from the vendroids -- or it could be home to a spider or a piece of candy left over from Halloween! You can try to get us to offer you more tokens for the MAD chest -- or you can just tell us you'll take your chances on the contents of the chest. But be warned: I stocked up on many of the Halloween items that are now considered "collectibles" and will be using some of these items as MAD chest stuffins; so think *very* carefully before taking tokens instead of the contents of the MAD chest! If you decide to take the tokens we offer, we'll unlock the chest and show you what you've missed out on -- but you don't get to keep it! We'll put it back in our prize stock for our next MAD event. If you decide to take the contents of the trunk, we'll unlock it for you and then you can reach in and get your prize -- leaving the MAD chest there of course! We only have 20 chests and will need to have all of them returned to us for our next MAD. If you find a MAD chest but are unable to come deal with us, feel free to send email to me (71273,373) or leave a message in the Community forum so we can set a time to get together so you can get your prize and I can get the chest. Nicci and I look forward to seeing you at MAD next Sunday, January 21! >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< KNIGHTS OF KYMER TECHTRIVIA GAME REPORT by SunRay Hera The second TechTrivia game, hosted by SunRay Hera and Knight Alexis, was held Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996 on the StarWay Cafe Stage at 5:00 p.m. WAT. A total of 19 players registered for this game and received a 20 token door prize just for playing! Knight Alexis kept crashing with a newly discovered virus on his PC and left Hera hosting the game by herself. Although this was her first gig at hosting an event, she managed to control the crowd, keep score, and type the questions without passing out. Alexis managed to clean the virus and return inworld by question #14 to save Hera from blistering her fingers too bad. The winners of last week's PC TechTrivia game were Acolyte Electra and Roy Batty. They split the grand prize of 300 tokens, giving them 150 tokens each for both answering 14 questions out of 20 correctly. This week the prizes were expanded and no prize was "split" among winners. Winning the Grand prize of 300 tokens was Necrolyte Jay with 15 correct answers out of a total of 20 questions covering PC technical information. Way to go, Jay! And yes, you really did get that many right . We had double winners for 2nd and 3rd place. RDMule and Belen Martinez each answered correctly 13 times. They took home 100 tokens each! Congratulations. Winning third place with 12 correct answers were Sandy Pylos and Lord Spacer Froboz. Outstanding! What a fun bunch! Honorable mention goes to the following avatars: In-Meditation, Duckolyte John Whiz, and Karyn Katwijk. They had 11 correct answers. And Karyn missed the first five questions! Great work, guys. Next week, we will again expand the prizes to include ITEMS!!! And for a very special announcement, the Knights of Kymer are pleased to announce we will have our very first celebrity guest host. Wonder who the mystery celebrity is? Tune in next week and register to play TechTrivia. Come early! Door prizes are for those who ESP me before 5pm WAT. A special thanks to all of the players for attending and making this a real fun event. CYa next week! >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< WHERE AM I?? by Necrolyte Xian (WHERE3.GIF) I am sorry the picture for last week's Where am I? was not posted in time. So, to make up for it, next week's first prize is a sun head! Second prize will be 100Ts, and third will be 50Ts. To play the game, all you have to do is download the picture file titled where3.gif from the newsstand library section. Then you'll have to guess where the picture was taken, and be the first three to catch me inworld and bring me to the same locale. Don't worry if you didn't win this week as this game will be done in every issue of Clarion. Send in your registration for any or all of the contests below to 72007,221 or 76571,1241. Dates for the events are January 21st and 28th at 5 PM WAT at the StarWay Stage. Register early for additional information on your catagory! !!IMPORTANT NOTICE!! The Bloodline is working on a talent show of sorts, and you are the contestants! Contestants can compete in any number of the competi- tions. Contests and dates are: TO BE HELD JAN 21st AT 5 PM WAT AT THE STARWAY STAGE: 1) Comedy acts - contestants must have a comedy routine that lasts no less then 2 minutes, and no longer then 5. Jokes must be fit to be shared in front of every member of the family! No profanity, off color, or discrimination allowed. A minimum of two of the jokes must center on the dreamscape! Anything from a "funny thing happened to me on the way to the Teleporter....." to whatever you come up with. Contestants will be judged not only on the quality of jokes, the amount of them that do concern our dream, but also presentation. 2) Pet Tricks - Your pet can be a canary, a fuzzie, a head, a fern, your new teddy bear or anything you wish. Imagination is the key to this contest, so don't leave it home. Contestants will be judged on presentation, pet care and handling, and imagination. TO BE HELD JAN 28th AT 5 PM WAT AT THE STARWAY STAGE: 3) Wave Competition - This is a competition that is gotten from Kymer's History. This competition was regularly held on Caribe. This is a team competition, and teams should be an number of avatars from 3 to 6 to participate in the contest. As a side note, there can also be more then one in the groups competing in the other contests. You can sing a duet or quartet, you can present your story as a play, you can have more then one handler of your pet, or you can try to make your mark as the Abbott and Costello or whatever of the dreamscape. Just make sure you register all members of the group in advance. In this contest, however, you have to have a minimum of three avatars to perform. Each wave team generally base their movements/story on a theme, which can be based on Kymer History, Caribe History, a dream- scape event, or anything having to do with the dream and the avatars presence in it. Contestants normally stand in a line and narrate the story/theme using sychronized movements to illustrate it. Teams will be judged on your theme and your ability to convey it, your presentation, and the sychronization of movement among team members. Some teams may choose to have one speaker, off to the side, while the others perform the movements. >*< >***< >*******< >***< >*< CHAOS, Inc by Marianne G !!IMPORTANT NOTICE!! All those who have a game plan and wish to try it out at CHAOS, Inc or those who have previously submitted game ideas, contact me at 72007,221 to schedule a date when you will be able to host it at CHAOS for all to help you try it out! !!IMPORTANT NOTICE!! Coming in January or Feburary, we hope to bring you the KYMER SEARCH FOR KNOWLEDGE and the CHAOS SCRAMBLE. There are also some great game ideas coming in and we hope to present them soon! Last week, we tried out Mind Boggle again, but with a slight twist. This version took two to hostess and my thanks to Necrolyte SunRay White Rose for her help. In boggle, a word or phrase is put up, and the contestants take the letters available in the original to make up new words, with just a few restrictions. Competing last week were Shibu, Duckolyte Mage Scutter, Davey Boy, and @thena. Top scoring was Pegasus in third, Compuchip in second and Gillian took first place by a bare 2 points over second! Once again, we like to thank everyone who has the patience to come and try CHAOS. So far, I don't think there has been one game we've introduced that has not been total fun to host or play in. I should mention, that some of the upcoming games may take us out of our one area location, as they need to be played all over the city. So, if you wish to participate, come early to the Bar-L Bar Storeroom, every Wednesday at 5 PM WAT to be there at the start for instructions and rules. This way, you don't have to worry about no one being there if you are late. In which case, you may have to wait there till we return at the end of the round. Thank you for your co-operation. >*< >***< >*******< >***< >*< KYMER FAMILY FEUD by Marianne G This was to originally be a CHAOS event, but this is too big even for CHAOS, so it's been turned over to the Bloodline to host in Feburary. It's based on Family Feud, and team play will be neccesary. There will be weekly games, with the last game of the month to determine the winning team. To host this game, survey questions must be provided by members of the dream, and that's everyone out there. You will see these questions posted here, and on the board, and we ask that you respond to as many as possible. Use your CUT and PASTE to put the questions into an E-Mail, add your answers, and send them in to me at 72007,221 and thanks in advance for your help. The questions are answered, and for the most coverage, some may appear in more then one place. Please use the numbers to insure you have not answered the same question more then once. This is on the order of, "with 78 kymerians responding to a survey, the top answer to this question ????? was?", so please, no essay responses, keep your answers to a few words :D Also, please don't discuss your answers with others, as I hope that the teams who play have not taken their own survey on the questions :D SURVEY QUESTIONS: 26) My favorite Holiday I celebrated on Kymer so far has been? 27) When Harlequin games opens, I hope inside to find? 28) My favorite head in Starway Cafe Vendo is? 29) My favorite item in the Bar-L Bar Vendo is? 30) The best thing about the Bar-L Bar storeroom is? 31) We've had leaves and snow on the ground, I'd like to see ? on the ground. 32) The head I'd like to see available in the city is? 33) My favorite room in the temple is? 34) The region I had the most trouble with on the Argo/Promenade was? 35) The first thing someone gave me when I came here was? 36) The first Acolyte I met after leaving the Argo was? 37) When Isle Caribe opens, I hope to find inside? 38) If I got to choose where to put an extra teleporter, I would put one? 39) The most useful item I have is? 40) Rounding your answer to the nearest 100, the most tokens I carry at one time is? 41) Rounding your answer to the nearest 1,000, I have how many tokens in my ATM account? 42) Rounding your answer to the nearest 100 tokens, if I could have a two room apartment, with a safe, I would be willing to pay how many tokens in rent per month? 43) When it comes to animal heads, I'd like one that looked like a? 44) When it comes to celebrity heads, I'd like one that looked like? 45) If paintings become available for sale, the first one I would buy would be a landscape, self prtrait, abstract, city scene, group portrait, seascape or celebrity portrait? 46) When my friends and I get together to chat, we do it where? 47) The first thing I'd do when documents come inworld is? 48) The last hunt I was in, I found a? 49) If my turf has a window, I hope it looks out on? 50) My favorite thing to spend my tokens on is? This was the Story Telling and Singing Contests, and I'd like to thank all who attended. Our judges were BLD RazzaMaTazz, Acolyte Nicci (who Acolyte Milen took over from when she had to leave) and BLD Raven. They did an excellent job of judging, which is a job I'd never want to do. As for the contestants, I'd like to make an open invitation to send the songs and stories in to be published in future issues of the CLARION, so they can be shared with all and become a part of Kymer's history. Just send them to 72007,221 which, yes, is also where you can send in if you wish to register for the remaining three contests, (see REGISTER NOW! in this issue of the CLARION). Who knows, when inworld documents become possible, we may be able to produce a book with all your works in it! On to the contest winners. There were three competing for the best Story, so all three placed. Coming in Third was Necrolyte SunRay White Rose with her story of the Phantom Of The Stage. Now I know where all those strange sounds were coming from! Thanks, White Rose. In Second place, SunRay Hera told us of her first day on the Island, and told us how Passion had helped her out. Yea Hera, a great story and kudo's to Passion for giving it a happy ending. In first place, Christopher Storm told a story of Arrival that ;;shudder;; made my trip across on the ARGO seem very tame. Oh, yes, there was that hassle at the docks over the choke machine, and I was ummm rather upset when I lost my Ponytail, but it was nothing compared to this poor avatar's tale. Way to tell it Storm! On to the singing, and did we have some great ones. Angel Gambler, Gillian, Scuttle, Xenophon and Nannette (with George LeRoy Tirebiter performing on Air Guitar) dazzled us with their talent. Scuttle had the Munchkinland Choir sing his (geesh, I hope I got that right this time). They were judged on Song, content, and presentation. In the end, Angel Gambler came in third, Scuttle came in second, and first place went to Nannette and George LeRoy Tirebiter! I do have to say here, however, Gillian, I can't get your song out of my mind now. I'm going to be humming it for quite a while, and when I start to sing it with your lyrics, people may think I'm crazy! Once again, we ask that all story writers and singers send in their songs and stories for publication, as they are work of arts that should be shared with all. Thank you all for coming, performing, judging, watching and just being the great Avatars you all are. And as for THX-1138 who was unable to perform this week, I have a spot open for you for next weeks competition, as a filler between acts :-) >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< ENTER THE NAME THE TEDDY CONTEST! by Athelstan Athelstan has a teddy with no name and he wants one for it. We're pretty sure there must be a story in it somewhere. There was a Fantastic Frog Bunch cheering up Deliverator and Veda outside the Bar-L Bar last week. What an act these froggies-- Actionizer, Nicole, Kermit, and DonG--put on! They stood in front of each other, waved wildly about, jumped up as high as only frogs can jump, and generally caused quite a screensight! Wow! We overheard Shaker wonder about whether he'd have to vacuum his turf when he got one. ::shudder:: Housework? Here? Perish the thought! There have been a few reports of the snow trying to escape from Meditation park, and even one report that places an Oracle outside the entrance with a snow shovel. We certainly don't want the snow to cover up those colorful leaves that have piled up outside the park, so we're glad to learn the Oracles are taking care of seeing that the snow stays in SantaLand where it looks its prettiest. When a protest broke out on the streets of the city, protesting the lack of turfs, the protestors were surprised when the Oracle joined them. The most surprising to one of the protestors was that the Oracles had better slogans! :D All those parked avatars who stand around and don't say anything seem to be creating a new fad. They take their heads off and hold them in their hand as they stare at the fountains or buildings, turning their face away from others. Perhaps this makes them easier to i.d. as stoned, and helps you to know you can avoid saying hi to them without their thinking you're rude. We've seen some acolytes that aren't really acolytes around lately, some with well known and some with names not very well known at all. They may think they can fool you, but you can always click on a real acolyte and read the Tell Me About to find out if it REALLY is a true Acolyte. When it comes to Acolytes, everyone on the isle of Kymer knows who they are, not just their hairdressers. Speaking of fashion, the hip of hip, the designer of the top looks in the city, Passion, is now showing off some of the Scuttle and Clover Auction heads to their best advantage. Way to go, Passion! ;) [#####]=[#####]=[####]=[#####]=[#####]=[#####]=[####]=[#####]=[#####] i&i i&i i&i i&i i&i WEDDINGS i&i i&i i&i i&i i&i ANNOUNCE YOUR WEDDING HERE! StarWay Stage, January 12 -- Hosted by Scuttle and Clover by Acolyte VIQer This week's auction brought a new attendance record. At one point in time, there were 70 ghosts waiting in the clouds, as Scuttle brought out item after item to be auctioned off! On stage there were heads being modeled that were to be sold. Scuttle guarantees these items to be rare and unavailable to the public. Even a single piece of Light Blue candy was sold for 200 tokens!! Two pieces of candy were sold... Second one brought in 275... Wert P. Gumby must have been very hungry to pay 4050 tokens for that whole turkey! There was a variety of items being sold. We saw a blue fuzzie which I picked up for someone else. I came prepared . There were surely enough heads to take care of any head collectors attend-ing. The very small Jack O-lantern brought in 2450 tokens.. But the item that brought in the highest amount by far, was the rare Nefertitti head from beta testing days... Not seen for a long time until it was being shown around the city prior to the auction.. This head brought in an unprecedented amount of 11,000 tokens!! Bid had started at 10,000. The only offer made was from Dakota.. Little did she know her bid didn't have to be any higher than 10.5K!! Many people commented to me afterward how they had enjoyed the auction. They came in just to be here for the auction that night.. Bids were hard and furious in most cases.. The action was fast paced as Scuttle tried to divert the questions to Clover.. And keep up with all the bids! The final bids for all the items for sale this time were: 1 piece of Halloween candy - 200T 1 piece of Halloween candy - 275T Halloween Trick or Treat Bag - 700T Turkey Drumstick - 2,000T Pumpkin Head - 2,300T Jack O'Lantern (carryable) - 2,400T Fuzzie - Blue - 2,600T Turkey breast - 3,300T Vampire Head - 3,400T Chocolate Pie - 3,750T Turkey (whole) - 4,050T Skull Head - 4,100T Skull Head - 4,200T She's Dead Head - 5,700T Nefertitti Head - 11,000T Be there next time... Read the Collectibles Catalog in Library # 3 of the Community Forum. GO TRA-39 gets you into the forum.. There is sure to be plenty of heads and other odd and rare collectibles for sale! [#####]=[#####]=[####]=[#####]=[#####]=[#####]=[####]=[#####]=[#####] EVENT SCHEDULING CHANGES By Acolyte Brynne As I'm sure you have read, the Scheduling Group is making a change in the way it is posting the Event Listing in the Inworld Events Section of the WA Community Forum. This change will probably have little or no effect on you; but it will have a major effect on the way I, on behalf of the Kymer Clarion, gather the event scheduling information. Until now, I have copied the two-week event schedule posted, extracted the days which cover the publication period of the Kymer Clarion (Wednesday through Tuesday), added any announced events I may receive in my email box or which I might find in the WA Community Forum which may not be included on the listing posted by the Scheduling Group, and published it. This will now all have to change. Effective with the SG's change, each Saturday, my deadline to the Rotating Clarion Editor, I will be downloading the listing posted by Scheduling Group that day. This however, will only provide the schedule through the following Friday plus any non-recurring events up to a month in advance; yet the Clarion publication period ends the Tuesday following the last date covered by the SG's listing. In an effort to bring you as accurate an Event Schedule as possible, it will now be necessary for the Clarion to create its own schedule from scratch, using as a basis the information the SG has provided with regard to recurring events. I will be checking the SG's listing each Saturday to insure all events my schedule reflects are still occurring, and adding to my schedule any which may appear on the SG list but not on mine. I will also continue doing as I have always done: reading the WA Community Forum Inworld Events Section for any events being held during the Clarion's publication period which do not, for whatever reason, appear on the listing posted by the SG. However, because I am fallible and because I may not always catch an event that has been posted in the forum, if hosts want to be absolutely sure their events will be listed in the Kymer Clarion Schedule of Events, released each Tuesday evening, hosts are encouraged to submit their event information to me, Acolyte Brynne, at 71273,373. The deadline for these submissions is by no later than 3:00 p.m. WAT every Saturday, for the period covering the following Wednesday through Tuesday. The submission to the Kymer Clarion is IN ADDITION to submitting your event information to the Scheduling Group. The Kymer Clarion assumes no responsibility for resolving scheduling conflicts; this task will remain under the jurisdiction of the Scheduling Group. If currently recurring events are changed in any way, besides notifying the Scheduling Group, should you wish the Kymer Clarion Schedule of Events to reflect your event(s) accurately, please *also* submit the change of information to me as noted above. On behalf of the Kymer Clarion staff, I will continue to do my best to provide you with the most accurate and the most useful Schedule of Events I can. If you have any suggestions as to how the format of the schedule can be changed to better meet your needs (as long as it is restricted to ASCII text for now please), please let me know! &^& &^& &^& &^& &^& Schedule of Events in Phantasus Week of January 17 through January 23 All Times in WAT (Pacific Standard) << --------------------->> Wednesday, January 17 << --------------------->> 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Bar-L Bar Storeroom Jackal3's Midday Trivia........................................Jackal3 Players must unscrambled the words to match with the host. 5:00 p.m. Bar-L Bar Storeroom Chaos Incorporated........................Acolyte Serena or Marianne G New!
