The number of Phantasus residents has been rising steadily since then. I was in the dreamscape just before writing this and there were people around every locale between Serena's Chaos game at the Temple entrance and the Visitor Center! As I went on duty, many asked "are there any games or events going on today" and I've had to tell them "nothing right now" quite often! We have so many new residents that they need more things to do and places to go. Three of us were trying to find a private locale in the Temple but found that most of them were full! It's good to see the land so well populated and I hope that some new doors will be opening soon! The dreamscape is slowly evolving and we have more things going on now than ever before. Several of our entreprenuers have hired employees to help with business. There have been questions as to when turfs will be available and it is a ways off yet but in the meantime, just make sure you have someone you know help out when sorting through your pockets and chests. This avoids many misunderstandings, believe me! And above all else, remember, we're here to have fun! Happy dreaming! VIQer >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< ANNOUNCING "MAKE A DEAL"! By Brynne "Make a Deal" (MAD) is coming to the streets of Phantasus on Sunday, October 8, 1995 at 2pm WATtime! Mark that down on your calendars because you'll be sure to want to join in the fun! What is MAD, you ask? It's a combo event. My co-host for this first MAD extravaganza, VIQer, and I will be hiding 20 dark green chests all over Phantasus. You'll know when you spot a MAD chest because it identifies as ... but of course ... MAD chest! If you try to open it, however, you're in for a surprise! You won't be able to because the MAD chests are locked! Don't even think about pawning it; but if you must try, just get it appraised first. You'll discover it will be more worth your while to come to Isle Caribe and make a deal with us. The first part of this combo event is for you to hunt all over Phantasus looking for ONE MAD chest. Yes, one! Once you find one, head over to Isle Caribe where VIQer and I will be waiting to make you a deal on that chest. If you bring two or more MAD chests to us, you'll be asked to choose which one you want and then re-hide the others for some other avatar-hunter to find. VIQer and I will keep track of who arrives when. We'll let you know you are on our list and then we'll ask you to ghost. If more than one avatar is in body form, the dealing will be halted until we only have *one* avatar on the ground with us. We will call each avatar-hunter when his/her time to deal arrives. Once you unghost, we'll begin the deal. We'll offer you tokens for your MAD chest. You have two options: you can take the tokens we offer or you can decide to take your chances on the contents of the chest -- which could be one of the two special heads the Oracles have provided for this first MAD; it could be a special lockable chest with its very own key; it could be more tokens than we've offered during the deal, or it could be a filled with an item from the vendroids -- or it could be home to a spider! You can try to get us to offer you more tokens for the MAD chest -- or you can just tell us you'll take your chances on the contents of the chest. If you decide to take the tokens we offer, we'll unlock the chest and show you what you've missed out on -- but you don't get to keep it! We'll put it back in our prize stock for our next MAD event. If you decide to take the contents of the trunk, we'll unlock it for you and then you can reach in and GRAB your prize -- leaving the MAD chest there of course! We only have 20 chests right now and will need to have all of them returned to us for our next MAD. VIQer and I will be at Isle Caribe until 4pm WATtime. If you find a MAD chest but are unable to come deal with us, feel free to send me email (Brynne, 71273,373) or leave me a message in the waking world forum so that we can set a time to get together so you can get your prize and I can get the chest. Now is that exciting or is that exciting? Get in the MAD spirit and be sure to join us for the first Phantasus MAD on Sunday, October 8! We'll be waiting for you! >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< A FEW GAMES TO TRY OUT Following is a description and rules for four games I would like to try on Worlds Away. I hope some of you will come to try them out and give us input as to what you liked, didn't like, etc so they can be fine tuned. Yes, these are based on many games we played on Caribe, so groan away. The challenge here is that on Caribe, two of the games could be placed on paper, which either the host/ess held and the others looked at with their cursor, or that they mailed in to the host/ess when the time was up. Without paper, this is all being played on the conversation screen. With the help of Acolyte VIQer and others, we hope to try them out on Saturday (insert Sun or other day if Sat is too soon) at say 8PM EST at the Visitor's Center. Following the description of the revamped games, is one for Ghost Racing, which again will be held on Monday, 8PM EST in front of Island Caribe. Please follow all instructions to avoid multiple crashing of your hostess :D WHEEL OF TOKENS On Caribe it was Rolling for Tokens and dice were used to determine the value of the letter you picked. For instance, if you rolled a 5, each letter was worth 5T (T stands for token) first round, doubled to a value of 10T second round and tripled to 15T for the third. As a host/ess you had the option of making a roll of one a Lose a turn in later rounds. This history is given not only as an interesting note, but also so if dice and paper do become avail- able, this will help you play it that way also :D By now, you have grasped that the basic game is based on the TV game which I wouldn't want to mention here but you all can guess at. No, we do not have a model turning the letters, we couldn't get Vanna :D Without dice to set the value, I am proposing a set value for each round. This would be the first game tried that evening, and the first three avatars sending ESP to Acolyte Serena at 8PM will be the contestants for the first game. The spectators, who should remain ghosted, also get to play, however. We will start with the first round being worth 2T each letter, 3T each for the second and 5T for the third. There is a minimum win value of 30T, 40T and 50T also based on the round. Only the one solving the puzzle receives their score, or the minimum, whichever is greater. The losing two contestants receive a 15T consulation prize. All these token amounts can be changed as times change by the way. Buying vowels always cost (subtracts from your score) 5T. I would tell you what it was and the number of letters per word such as: TITLE (2) 5-7 Which means the topic is a Title, 2 words with the first having 5 letters and 7 in the second. I would then put to screen, the representation of the puzzle. ----- ------- It is suggested that players keep track on paper at home, of the puzzle, used letters, etc. I will only announce used letters after all three players have had their turns. Starting with player one (P1) a player can on their turn 1) try a letter 2) buy a vowel if they have a high enough score or 3) solve the puzzle. I state who's turn it is, and then the player can state what they would like to do. A typical game follows. Host/ess - It is P1 turn P1- I would like an S Host/ess - There is no S in the puzzle, it is P2 turn. P2 - I would like an R. Host/ess - There are two R's ----R ---R--- You now have 4T P2, go again. P2 - I would like an M. Host/ess - There is one M in the puzzle --M-R ---R--- you now have 6T P2, go again. P2 - I would like an N Host/ess - There is one N --M-R ---R--N you now have 8T P2, go again. P2 - I would like to buy a vowel. I want to buy an E. Host/ess - There is one E. --MER ---R--N you now have 3T P2, go again. P2 - I would like a B Host/ess - There are no B's, P3 it is your turn. P3 - I would like an L. Host/ess - there is one L --MER -L-R--N you have 2T, go again. P3 - I would like a G Host/ess - There are no G's. I would then give a summery. Currently P1 has no tokens, P2 has 3T and P3 has 2T. Used letters not in the puzzle are B, G and S. This would continue until someone solved the puzzle, winning the prize and then we would go on to round two. WAIT! Didn't I say ghosted spectators got to play? Yes, they do. If you are a spectator and you guess what it is, you can ESP me the answer. First spectator sending in the answer wins 30T and the chance to play in the next round. All who send in the answer BEFORE the player says he would like to solve it, win 5T. When the round is over, the player with the lowest score who is NOT the winner, can be replaced by the spectator who answered first. If the two losing players are tied, the last one to join the game, (based on the ESP's I receive to become a contestant or on when they joined the game from spec to contestant) is replaced by the spectator with the correct answer. By the way, can you guess the title yet? On to game two. SCRAMBLED WORDS This is an easy one. I just dump a scrambled word to the screen and the first to dematerialize and state their name and the correct answer wins. Who knows, perhaps I will have a word that the letters can form more then one word. Then the person who gives all the possible answers, wins a bonus. It will be 5T per word with all the winnings paid at the end to keep the game moving along. I found when I ran games on the Island, that if you kept stopping to do the pay outs, you couldn't get as many games in. If you have to leave, then please tell me in ESP and I will ask you down when there is a break to pay you off. Also, if there are already three people dematerializing, please wait for one of them to reghost before coming down to answer. And once the answer is given, please dematerialize promptly to avoid crashes. MAKE A WORD This was a popular game on the Island, but playing it without having the answers mailed in is going to be a pain. In effect I give out a word or phrase such as: A BRAND NEW WORLD and you take those letters and form new words. Restrictions are, you can not use parts of the original word or phrase, (BRAND, NEW or WORLD would be out), your answer has to be three or more letters (AN, A or OR are out), no proper nouns (NORA and DORA are out), no foreign (or in this case, non-english) or archaic words allowed. You can not use any letter more times then it appears in the original (so LEANED is out). Plurals do not count (so if an S was available, adding that to a word would not count) and natch, no vulgar words allowed. The host/ess has the final say. If you don't think it would be in my pocket dictionary, don't try it. And don't make me go to my online dictionary, cause I really hate that :D So now your brain is teeming with possible words, what do you do? The ghosted contestnats unghost and the first I see coming down I will identify and let them go. All others, please reghost! I had thought of having you all come down and just start shouting them out, but I would be dumped. If we do this one at a time, no one gets hurt :D So, once I call out your name, it's your turn and you get to give me five answers. If you see more then two already down, don't even try materializing, just wait for the players turn to end. Say for example Player 1 comes down and gives ORDER, WAR, WONDER RAN and LORD, at 2T's each he's just won 10T's and once he reghosts, and is no longer seen on the screen, others can try to materialize. Once you've played, you can not materialize again until at least two other players have given their answers, or until I have said LAST CHANCE. You must have five answers, and they must not have been given already. If you unghost BEFORE the previous player has ghosted, that is a false start, and I will skip you going to the next person who unghosts. So, don't get an itchy trigger finger on the mouse. Now player two gives WORD, BRAN, WAND, LAND and LANDED (which is allowed). Player two has now won 10T. Now say no one else can come up with five more words to make. If I see I am getting no new players, I will announce LAST CHANCE and at that time, player 1 or 2 can give it a try if they still have more words, despite the fact that there were not two other players between their last play. Once we are out of answers, we go on to the next round. A variation of this is called CATAGORIES, where, instead of breaking down and rearranging the letters of a phrase, you give items that fit the catagory given. An example of a Catagory may be, ITEMS YOU SEE ON WORLDS AWAY. These games can be played together, just alternating between the two. MASTERS VERSIONS The last three games also have Masters Versions. These are the same games, but harder, and can be made to be invitation only to the top winners of weekly games. In the Masters Ver- sion of Scrambled words, it is two or three words all scrambled together. In the other master versions, there are more restrictions. The restrictions are decided by the host/ess and announced before each round. The restrictions can include answers beginning only with certain letters, answers that are only 5 to 7 letters long (or whatever), or catagories that by their nature have fewer correct answers. In these cases, the number of correct answers a contestant can give per turn will be limited to only 2 or 3 but the token value of them will go up. Perhaps when we have a few monthly campions of certain games, and more of the Island is open, we can have the Master Tournaments held in the Theatre. GHOST RACING This game was spec racing, and a history was given in the first issue of the KYMER CLARION. The basic idea is the host/ess puts out one or more items while the contestants are dematerial- ized and when the host/ess ghosts, the contestants unghost and go for the prizes. A false start is also realized if a contestant dematerializes before the host/ess totally disappears. In that case, the race is void, the items should be returned, and the race is halted till the host/ess comes back down and restarts it. There is a limit of two races you can win during the games, and traditionally, a limit of 10 races, but that can be changed. In Caribe history, the Weekly Newbie Spec Races, announced the winners each week in the paper. At the end of the month, the winner of the most races that month, was the Spec Race Champion of the month and was awarded a special prize. If more then one person was tied with races, then there was a race off on the final race day of the month, with winner take all. There was also a Hall of Champions at one time where your name would appear on the trophy for that event. In that tradition, I would like to host Ghost Racing on Monday nights at 8PM in front of Island Caribe. If we were to crown a champion for the month, based on the first race I held in that location, tied for first place so far with two races each are: Squirrel Eliza Hustler and behind them with one win each are Shaker, Herve and Perdita. At the end of the month, hope to have a winner! Acolyte Serena 72007,221 >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*< Seen On The Street!
