We have not one, but TWO letters to the editor this week, and they don't even require an answer! Talk about luck, if I had this type of luck on the dreamscape, I'd be winning the lotto's and raffles every week. Course, it helps to occasionally remember to purchase a ticket. We have a great poem this week by Skeeve, and a continuation of the story by Christopher Storm. I know he has me at the edge of my seat..... or is that because my cat sat down first and I'm trying not to dislodge her? For those of you who also view the GIF's we upload with the CLARION, you'll be able to get a first hand view of Passion's Wedding location BEFORE the big day on Friday. I want to tell you, it's decorated nice as can be. I went there to interview Passion for a new series of interviews that will be coming out in the CLARION's Cartoon Pages. You'll have to pick up issue 3 of that when it comes out...... and I'm still working on my drawing lessons. Many thanks for all the nice comments on it, and gee, no one solved the puzzles in it yet and contacted me for the tokens. That's ok, I forgot where I wrote down the solutions anyway. So many changes now that turfs are here. We want to caution all of you to take normal precautions! Don't invite people up to your turf whom you don't know... Don't go up to strange people's turfs! And, if they 'lock' you into their turf and threaten you, EXIT the world to get out! Don't forget to lock your door also, (set turf setting to Not allow guests in turf) when you leave. Also, don't forget, anyone and everyone should feel free to pay the rent on the turf named Dreamland.... just see the building manager, he'll take the rent from anyone :D Also, don't forget, Dreamland is where you can now find CHAOS, Inc, the Monday and Friday ghost Racing, and DIS aka Dreaming Insomniacs Society. CC is where you will find Clover's Auction, Duck Hunt for the Duckolyte events..... and the list continues. Check the schedule for assistance. Finally, just because it's something that should be said often, the staff of the CLARION would like to thank all our loyal readers for their continued support of this paper. Not only for your readership, but your submissions, suggestions, story ideas, complaints and praise that you send our way. Think of it FORTY ISSUES! Only 12 more to go and we'll have been published for an entire year without missing a beat. We owe it all to you. In closing, I'd like to leave you with this little excerpt from my favorite book: For as special as a can of CHOKE is, a friend is more so. So let your friend know in every way, every day, how they are appreciated. Share your can of CHOKE with them. - Reading from The Book of CHOKE by Marianne G >>**|**<< >>**|**< LETTERS TO THE EDITOR >**|**<< MORE ON POOKIE From Anais Editors, Just wanted to drop a line regarding my baby bear Pookie. My friend MaHuang was asking around the turf lobby if anyone had found a baby bear and to her astonishment Sparhawk gave her a baby bear! I thought that was a real sweet thing to do, considering he had never met Ma before. So, whomever picked up Pookie by the elevators, I hope he gives you as much enjoyment as he gave me. And thank you Sparhawk for your kindness and generosity. (F3) Anais ENCANTO From Mary Mary Dear Editor: In your last issue, Cassandra Kane told of her encounter with Encanto. I would like to add my testimonial to Cassandra's, because Encanto is truly a special man. When I was still relatively new to Kymer, this gentleman stopped and complimented me quite nicely. He disappeared briefly, but he returned a few minutes later, and presented me with a vase of roses. After another beautiful compliment, he left me to enjoy my new flowers. I do not know why Encanto provides these wonderful gifts, or how he can possibly afford them, given the current auction prices, but I feel honored to have been the recipient of his attention. Such a fine man deserves special recognition in our community.Thank you, Mary Mary Editors Reply: We agree! Why with all the press the horrible stuff gets, makes you want to curl up in your turf and only come out to pay the rent. We'd like to take this opportunity to remind all that the HEROE'S OF THE DREAMSCAPE section has been moved to the CLARION's Cartoon Pages, and you can send nominations for that along to 72007,221. So, if you see a forum post that shows the good side of the dreamscape, if you see a post that gives you a new outlook and want to make sure others don't miss it, cut and paste it, red flag it to our attention at the UID given, and we'll try and bring you the best side of the dream. Doesn't even have to be a forum post, you can just write your thanks to the one who deserves it, and send it in for that section. Encanto and Sparhawk, congratulations to both of you, and thanks, for showing us all the way to happy dreams. Marianne G >>**|**<< >>**|**< ROBBERY REMINDER >**|**<< THE ROBBERY By: Smiles It was a beautiful day for a Bingo game, and BeauMec was hosting one right in front of the exciting Harlequin Games. Winners ussually received the pot (all the tokens given for bets), but today was different. I, Smiles, was going to give the 2nd place winner a mystery box, with a mystery prize inside. Everyone was extremely excited to see what was in the mysterious box. First place was won, then 2nd. I realized that everyone would be dis- appointed with the cheap bottle of cola in the mystery box, so I put the box on the floor, thinking everyone there were honest people, and placed a gleaming can of gold turf paint inside. Suddenly, someone came, closed my box, and picked it up. Everyone started shouting. The avatar, darted to the left and disappeared among angry bingo players. Everyone was VERY diappointed. Es- pecially the winner. BeauMec realized that it was a waste of time to sit and complain, so he started another round of bingo. Sudden- ley, the robber reappeared, solemnley, feeling terrible about what he had done. He returned my box, and gave his sincere apologies. Everyone cheered. The bingo game continued, smiling, and happy. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Never place something on the floor, unless you absolutely trust everyone who is with you, and there are NO empty slots for others to come down! >>**|**<< >>**|**< WEDDING NEWS >**|**<< Come share in our joy and our love on Friday, May 17th at 7 p.m. WAT for the Wedding of Passion & Brimble. She still feels about the same as she did in the hospital, but this is another step on the road to full recovery. I just know her spirits feel better being in those familiar surroundings we all enjoy and call home. And I'm sure she is glad to use her PC at home rather than the " S L O W " laptop. You may try sending "get well" email to her directly again. Her In-Basket has not filled up lately which is another sign she is feeling better. Please join me in wishing her continued recovery with her health while remembering she is still not 100% back to normal. If you encounter her inworld, a dream of us all, please remember she is still very sick and in there to conduct necessary business. You'll know when she is "all the way back." Right? SATURDAY MAY 18th!!! USE YOUR VOTE!!! By Mellony --------------------------------------------------------------------- LET FCT KNOW WHAT ASPECT OF WORLDS AWAY YOU WANT THEM TO EMPHASIZE WHEN ALLOCATING RESOURCES! How would you like to have some furniture in your turf, and be able to sit down, as well? Many of us would love to be able to equip our turfs with furniture, to make them seem cosier, like a real home. Just imagine being able to come home to your turf, after a morning's shopping at V-Mart, and being able to sink into your favourite arm- chair for a well-earned rest. Or how about a table and chairs, so you would have somewhere to put your meals on, and actually be able to sit and eat your food in comfort, instead of having to put all your food and drink on the floor (very unhygenic!), and then have to bend down and pick up what you want, and stand there, awkwardly, trying to look like you're enjoying it! Wouldn't it seem much more welcoming for your guests, if you invited them to sit down for a chat, instead of leaving them to stand up all the time? And then just think how much better it would be in public places, like the Bar-L Bar, or the Starway Cafe, if you could sit down when you wanted. If this sounds like the kind of thing you would like to see next in Worlds Away, then be sure to let FCT know your wishes by voting for :- ** 2) Furniture and the ability to sit** at the Inworld Opinion Poll on Saturday, May 18th, at the turf called "VOTE". The polling place is open between 6-8am, 1-3pm, 8-10pm WAT, so everybody will have a chance to go at a convenient time. Just make sure that you have with you a turf spray-can with 2 remaining sprays in it, because this is your voting ballot, to allow you to vote for No. 2) FURNITURE AND THE ABILITY TO SIT. If you forget your spray-can, there will be extra ones at the voting turf available for you to use. The other options you could vote for are:- 1) Inceased powers for the Acolytes, more Acolytes, and more Oracles. 3) Inworld documents, including stored messages, and artwork. 4) Glue, for securing objects to the walls and floors of a private turf. 5) An Adventure Area, with combat tools, and health points. For more detailed instructions, see the forum library. And don't forget to vote!!! >>**|**<< Kymer Poste Restante Service Opens By Masked Angel --------------------------------------------------------------------- The Kymer Poste Restante Service (KPRS) started operations at 2pm WAT on Monday 6th May 1996. The service allows Avatars to leave a message with the KPRS operator for later collection by the recipient. Ever wanted to leave a message for someone: 'Sorry can't meet you today as planned' 'Enjoyed our chat yesterday - meet me at VC at 6pmWAT' 'Come to my party at Homestead - 9pmWAT Friday' 'Don't forget to buy the Eggs' Well - now you can - and you don't have to come out of WA to leave it, and you don't have to know their E-Mail ID, just the Avatar name. Initially the service has operated between 2pm and 3pm WAT while final testing completed. Now we aim to operate during three timeslots: 2pm-3pm WAT, 7pm-8pm WAT and 10pm-11pm WAT. It may take a little time to organise - so be patient The operator will be stationed outside the Library (next to the Visitors Centre) during opening hours. You may leave a message for another Avatar with the operator. Any Avatar may ask the operator whether there are any messages for them, and may then pick up waiting messages. SO - WHETHER YOU LEAVE A MESSAGE OR NOT, BE SURE TO CHECK WHETHER ANYBODY HAS LEFT A MESSAGE FOR YOU!! In order to use the service, PC Windows users may download the KPRS.EXE file from the Library 'WA Plugins' area of the AwayForum. This is a VB3 program and will need the VB3 support files also posted in the forum (unless you already have them). MAC users - don't despair. The system has been designed so that it can be used without the need of a program. Look at the MACKPRS.TXT file in Library 'WA Plugins' area of the AwayForum for more information. See what the press says: 'This service heralds a new era in Interpersonal Communications within the Metropolis and Environs of Kymer City' The Evening Post 'No Kymerite can live without making use of this Superb Service' The Sunday Times 'I think this will be a very useful service' Kymer Clarion 'Ooooh Lovely' ESP 'What?' Kymer Express and MetalWorkers Standard Come and see us 'Outside the Library' during operating hours. Oh - I forgot to mention - ITS FREE FREEEE FREEEEEE!!! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped to bring the idea to fruition - in particular: Bibiana for being so supportive during the trials (and in general). Wert P Gumby (and Mrs Wert) for programming advice and help. Odo Nata Too for programming the Client Software. Chief Duckolyte Mark for his support, encouragement and brainpower. The SYSOPs (Hunter in particular) for checking it out so nicely. All the KPRS Operators who are raring to go! All the interested people who contacted me with ideas and help. >>**|**<< Monthly Turf Contest Begins By SunRay Love ------------------------------------------------------------------- Love to all of Kymer!! Now that we have Turfs, I have formed a committee for the purpose of having a "TURF OF THE MONTH" contest every month. The name of this committee is called "Dream Turfs". What we are wanting to do is, every month our committee gets invited to other avatar's turfs to be judged on style, color coordination, and in line with the themes of each month. The way this will work is, one of our committee members will walk around with the owners while the other members are ghosting. The owners or owner can talk to us, if they want to,and tell us how they got the ideas for the themes of their turfs and generally show us around. The committee will be keeping score and going on their own personal feelings of the different turfs they are in. We will vote on the turfs we have been in and decide on a winner. The prize for the best Turf of the Month is still being worked out. But what ever the prize is, belongs to the winner, to be displayed with pride for the good job he, she or they have done with their turf. This will be an on going job for the committee, and one I know we will all enjoy doing. I have a very good group that is very trustworthy and honest. I know I will enjoy working with them. And I would like to thank them ahead of time for the hard work and time I know they will give to this project. We are working towards this being the first month of our contest and have gotten a very good response from the post in the forum by Charity Case. I wish you Love and Peace in Waking World and Dream World >>**|**<< New Games Coming Soon By Brains, Wing Commander -------------------------------------------------------------------- Two brand new games are coming to Kymer. The finishing touches are just about complete. The first one will be held Monthly as a very big event, with an occasional special edition added on selected months. It is called the "Duckolyte Kymer Shell Game". This game is a slightly modified version of the game that won our special "Create A Game Contest". It is alot like the MAD event but with several variations. The other one will be held weekly with a monthly champion. This one is called "Pinkie and the Brains". This game will be held every week and will be co-hosted by Passion (Pinkie) and Brains, Wing Commander (Brains). It will be lots of fun, and add some variety to the gaming in Kymer. June will kick off the start to this weekly game. Watch for details and dates on these two brand new games in the next two issues of this paper. >>**|**<< >>**|**< MENOLLY'S PUZZLE CORNER >**|**<< By Menolly The answer to last week's puzzle, what have the following words in common? Brandy, chastens, craters, grangers, pirated, scampi, stores, swingers, tramps. All the words can be reduced by one letter at a time and form complete words all the way to a one-letter word. Eg. brandy, brand, bran, ran, an, a * * * * * * * * * * This weeks puzzle:- The King of Moravia needed a man of great courage and wisdom for a very important mission. Unable to decide which of his three best knights should do the job, he called them to him and had them blindfolded. Then he placed a cap on the head of each one and said: "Each of you now wears either a black cap or a white cap. When the blindfolds are removed, I want you to raise your hand as soon as you see a black cap. Drop your hand as soon as you know the colour of your own cap." The blindfolds were removed, and all the knights raised their hands immediately, for the wily old man had placed a black cap on each knight's head. After a few minutes one knight dropped his hand and said: "My cap is black." By what logical reasoning had he reached that conclusion? >>**|**<< >>**|**< FYI >**|**<< The Krewe of Duckolytes By Disco Duck, Duckolyte Wing -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Krewe of the Duckolytes is founded upon the historic Mardi Gras Krewe traditions of role-playing, fun, entertainment, celebration, benevolence, and good citizenship. The humans behind the Duckolyte avatars and the Krewe itself follow the wisdom of the duck as one of nature's most adaptable, intuitive, intelligent, sociable, and peace-loving members of the Peaceable Kingdom. The mission of the Krewe of the Duckolytes is to create fun and friendship within Kymer. The goals of our Krewe are: building and maintaining bonds of friendship and trust among the members of the flock, providing games and entertainment for citizens of Kymer, taking innocent and new avatars under our wings, promoting good citizenship among the flock and among Kymerians, and offering help to those in need. Our purpose is flocking together in a mutually-supportive way to further the goals of the Krewe. Avatars who are familiar with the Duckolytes are noticing some changes in our organization. We wanted to build upon the existing Duckolyte traditions of providing events and of assisting new avatars, emphasizing role-play and fun, while building visibility and identity for our group. In line with the tradition of Mardi Gras parades, and in keeping with our roles as Kymerian waterfowl, our standing committees have become Floats, our temporary committees are now Formations, and we have revised the names of our officers to reflect our desire to soar to our maximum potential. Our leader, formerly styled the Arch Duckolyte, is now titled the Wing Commander. Senior Chiefs are now Senior Wings, and the title Chief has been revised to Wing. Because we want new members of our flock to share in the bonding that comes with a period of intiation, Duckolyte Candidates are now Hatchlings, and new Duckolytes who have been initiated, but who are still in training, are Fledglings. We are always seeking avatars who believe that fun makes community spirit fly. If you are interested in flying and floating with the Duckolytes, just ask any Wing or Senior Wing you may meet online. Brains, our Wing Commander, is friendly and approachable, and is always interested in meeting avatars who want to stop sitting on the sidelines and are ready to get quacking. We invite you to come and share our fun. The Worlds Away Community Forum (GO TRA-39) is part public library, part archive, part software store, part tour book, part metropolitan newspaper, part tabloid, and part conference center. It is a valuable addition to Kymer life because it is so eclectic, and because it is a cost-effective way to maximize enjoyment of the Dreamscape. Wander in, take a look around, and you're almost certain to find something that interests you, engages your attention, or elevates your blood pressure. All of these things are part of the Forum flavor, fun, folklore, and fascination. Here are some suggestions to help new avatars get the most out of the Worlds Away Community Forum. 1) Before visiting the Forum, remember to review the Conference Preferences you set as part of your Forum Preferences under the Special pull-down menu on the opening CISscreen. If you're busy or don't have time to chat, be sure to indicate "Ignore" under Talks and Invitations. 2) To have access to all the sections, you must join the Forum. If you decide to join right away, use your avatar name, because that is the name by which other Kymerians know you. 3) Click on the Who's Here icon in the Forum toolbox. If you see an avatar you know, it's OK to say Hello and to wave, unless that avatar has placed after his or her name. Think of a Forum "send" as an unexpected knock on someone's door. After the other avatar has responded to your greeting, it's nice to ask if that person has a few minutes to spare. If that person does have a minute or two, be sure to ask any questions you may have about the Forum. It's a great way to get a tour from an experienced avatar-guide. 4) Next, click on the set of books. That is the Forum Library, where you can download software, pictures of other avatars, Kymer periodicals, and information about Worlds Away. Take a few minutes to browse the various sections. Like exploring the stacks in a public library, browsing the Forum Library is the best way to learn what is available. You will be surprised at the variety and quality of the Library resources, which are updated very frequently, so be sure to dip in and savor the flavor. 5) After you've examined the Library resources, and, perhaps even downloaded a few of them, click on the document icon in the Forum toolbox. That innocuous-looking little icon is your gateway to some of the most interesting sections in the Forum, and some of the best solutions to any installation or software problems you may encounter when using WorldsAway. When you click on the document icon, several major sections will be revealed: Installation Help, Help Desk, InWorld Events, Discussion and Issues, and Forum Flames. If your machine hiccoughed after downloading the software, Installation Help can provide the informa- tion you need to get WorldsAway running on your machine. Help Desk is the section to check if you have encountered any difficulties using the software after you have actually entered Kymer, or if you have any questions about WorldsAway software or about the Kymer en- vironment. InWorld Events helps you get the most from your time inworld by providing a handy day-by-day calendar of what is happening in Kymer, where and when it is happening, and who is the contact person if you have any questions about the game or event. This is your master key to the games, social events, and cultural offerings of Kymer. The diverse offerings inworld show that there is something for everyone in Kymer, whether you are a chatter, a gamer, a debater, or a shopper. Be sure to join the fun! Everybody has an opinion, and the Discussion and Issues gives you the opportunity to start a discussion, to join an existing one, to participate in a survey, or simply to take the current temperature of the social climate. Warning: Discussion and Issues is fun, but it can get hot, too. Some writers are dispassionate and issue-oriented, some are very personal. Some are chilly, some are ablaze with con- viction. Just as everyone participating in Discussion and Issues has an opinion about the issues, those who are frequent contributors have, and freely express, opinions about each other. It is a good idea to lurk for a week or two before jumping into a discussion, just to learn who's who and what's what. If you find the cultural climate in Discussion and Issues stimulating, you may want to jump into a discussion, or you may find it more comfortable to read, but not to contribute. Approach this section with a viewpoint of curiosity and fun, and you may find that adds that certain touch of piquancy to your life in Kymer. Forum Flames is reserved for messages which are, literally, too hot to fit into other sections of the Forum. In any society, there will be strong affinities and equally-strong antipathies, and if you are become an active participant in the Forum, you, too, will be on the receiving end of a thorough roasting now and then. You may even want to flame-broil someone else. This is the tabloid section of the Forum, and, like all tabloids, messages in the Forum Flames section are based more on sensationalism and appeals to emotion than on fact and appeals to logic. If you find it depressing, this section is easily ignored. The WorldsAway Community Forum is a source of information and enjoyment. Stop by. Take a look around. You are almost certain to find something that appeals to you. -_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_--_^+^_- -_^+^_--_^+^_- -_^+^_- SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB GRAND OPENING -_^+^_- By Duckolyte Lindy What a fun, hectic night! The Grand Opening of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club, Friday, May 10th, was a SUCCESS, attended by 31 avatars. Despite the snafus we encountered over the evening... including Staff shortages, avatars crashing left and right, and Spiney Norman and MEAF's attempts to spoil everything, most everyone had a great time. The majority of those attending expressed their intentions of returning again next week and were going to tell their friends about the club. Congratulations to the winners of the door prize drawings. They were as follows: BlackWarrior, a baby bear Arachne, a rare rose head Hoolio, a baby bear Next week, we will have 3 new door prizes to draw from throughout the evening. By the end of the evening, Dennis S and I were dragging, but satisfied that we had provided an atmosphere that encouraged good conversation, a little romance and lots of fun. Security will be tightened, attendance up, crashes not a factor (we hope), and romance heightened at Sgt. Pepper's next Friday. Known thieves and harrassers will be turned away or ejected as quickly as possible. Join us from 6 pm to 11 pm WAT, Friday, May 17th for our next Lonely Hearts Club get together. Entry is only 20 Ts, or 15 Ts if you have a teddy bear with you. Turf name: Teddyland. ESP Dennis S or Duckolyte Lindy Friday night to gain entrance if the Teddyland door is closed. The Teddy Bar will be open daily (at no cost) during times the owners are in attendance ... please drop by for a visit ... you may find a trinket or two. EDITORS NOTE: See their ad under Busnesses and Services, and they are also listed on the CLARION Schedule for our readers convience. -_^+^_--_^+^_- -_^+^_- CLOVER COLLECTABLE AUCTION -_^+^_- By Clover and Marianne G May 6, 1996 Auction Results With a minimum raise of 50T, there were 15 items up for sale, not in the vendo at time of the auction. First item up was a snowball, which was followed by a heart chest that Compuchip was bound and determined to get... and he did! For the White Non-Vendo Painted Rose Head, seemed the minimum raise was 500T! As all the raises seemed to be that or higher.. finally, the bidding slowed down and Mage LeadMan finally got the head. Then came one of the rare Christmas Oranaments, which couldn't decide what it was. Next up was a repaintable Valentine head, followed by a fern, when Huckleberry who had the Snowman head, crashed. But then the Snowman head was up. Fast bidding for that Snowman, was out of my league before I could blink. Finally narrowed down to Lajolla, Yumi and NEM fighting for it. NEM hung in there, but Lajolla finally beat off all competition to take it away. Everyone there got to see a preview of an item going on sale next week.... a head in a basket. Said to be Loki's head... it's a rare sight to be sure! Everyone also was delighted to see Acolyte Sunray Indigo make an appearance, but she soon had to ask them to announce to please not ESP her, it was just too much. There was only one problem during the auction. One avatar continuously ESP Bombed the hostess, making it hard for her to take the bibs. Lets all take a minute to remember that the harder we make it for the hosts, the less they want to host, and the fewer events we have here. Lets all re- member that and follow instructions to make events enjoyable to all. As it was, items were skipped over because of the time it took to sort out the problem. Back to the auction, a vase with flowers went off for Turf Decora- tion, before the first door prize drawing. Zooey won the cup of hot chocolate in the nice china cup. Next up was an old 8T EPROM. Looks just like the regular EPROM, but only pawns for 8T... but it was decided to skip it for the night... so on to a non-vendo green paint- ed Rose head. Jimi and Dawny Cakes were going neck and neck for this one. Then another Heart Chest went onto the block. They sure look nice even when they aren't holding any items. Of course the abundance of animal heads pretty much ensures that odd things will be about every night until WA finally shuts its doors, but there were even more than the usual variety of odd things on the night in question, since we had our weekly meeting of the Dreaming Insomniacs' Society, arguably the oddest event in the whole place, since it sort of combines CHAOS' premise of something different every week with something that can only be described as... well, weirdness. (Okay, I should have put something funny instead of "weirdness" in that last sentence. It's not easy being witty and creative you know. And CHAOS has come close on more than one occaision....) This particular night we did something even more unusual than the average. I had downloaded a program called "Word Creator." I'm not sure where I found it... you may be able to find it in the RPG forum here on CompuServe (GO RPGAME). But it's just as likely that I found it browsing through the Internet one night in pursuit of language-related information. This Windows program lets you "feed" words into it, words of most languages, then produces more words of style similar to those you entered. For example, if you were to feed it a couple hundred words of German, it would then use that info to randomly produce more, "fake", words of German, words that are of the same style as German because it uses the words, decoded into syllables and stored in an internal database along with statistical information, to create new words. We didn't feed it German words, though someone may want to try that someday; we simply fed it ordinary English words. Then we took the program's output and used it to generate fake words and made up definitions for them. I took the best definitions down to print here, in the illustrious pages of the Clarion. Follows are the new, created words and the definitions we set for them. (A few have more than one definition.) Feel free to try to introduce these into conversation wherever you can. Doing so will probably get you a few weird looks, but what the hey. (Send details of where you used a word, recorded with Save Messages, to the Clarion and we'll publish entertaining usages in a later issue.) Here's are the best definitions we came up with (you can see they got better as the night went on), sorted by word and all definitions credited (the best definitions are marked with an asterisk after the contributor's name): CROOM: On-line groom. (Kira, implied "Cride" as an on-line bride.) SMOONT: On-line smooch. (Askani) DREARM: 1. To disarm, re-arm and disarm an opponent. (Aule) 2. A dear dream, like WA. (Kira *) FLEAZY: Mascot of Bar-L Bar (Aule) JERF: Any creep in your turf. (Jevan) PSYCHUS: State of WorldsAway psychosis in which you're almost ready to pay CompuServe's rate without complaint. (Gillian) CRUR: The act of taking a fuzzie for a walk. (Aule) KNOOS: 1. A name for the rope hanging in Bar-L Bar. (Aule) 2. Acronym: Knowing No One OutSide (describing turf homebodies. (Gillian *) ETE: A name for the F11 gesture. (Aule *) CLOUS: Annoying, silent clouds, used to describe those anonymous, passing ghosts. (Gillian) PSYCHOUBBY: Any scary weird avatar who just sits and stares at you. (Aule) GRAR: That sad species of plant in the Apartment Building completely devoid of leaves. (Aule *) KOONG: The noise the Elevators make when you ride them. (Kira) PUNG: Even worse than a pun. (Kira *) GROARN: What you do when someone makes a Pung. (Aule *) JER: A small jerk. (Kira) LUW: Acronym: "Loving Uni's Way" (Gillian) LOUL: An avatar who types in allcaps. (Aule) SMUZ: 1. The expression between a smile and a frown, produced by pressing F2. (Error *) 2. That ugly default, dirt-brown turf color. (Gillian *) IOYE: An avatar who leaves the locale before you can say "Hi." (Aule) TOOBBY: Acronym: Teresias Out On Baby Brat Yanking. (Gillian) As you can see, we had quite a time Saturday night. Now if I can just come up with something else good for next time. DIS MOTTO: "If it works, great! If it don't, that's fine too." It's more important, and more fun, to try new things and risk failure than to play it safe always with the same old games.... He was in the same room as before, dominated by the large machine in the middle. There was a panic in his movements, yet everything seemed to move in slow motion as he flipped switches and pressed buttons on the enormous device. Lights were blinking all over it, and warning alarms erupted from various speakers on the side, although they too were dulled, as if coming from a great distance. A loud bang brought the blurry images spinning, to refocus on a door against the far wall a moment later. The door had been slammed open and two figures garbed in some sort of uniforms had burst into the room. Each held dangerous looking devices in their hands, and the larger of the two shouted, "Twenten, Level 5 Tinkerer, you are to cease and desist immediately! Resist and you will be destroyed!" Twen dived towards a small table, again seeming to move in slow motion. The images of the room blurred deeply for a second, before refocusing. The two uniformed intruders thrust out their devices and shot twin beams of emerald light at the tinkerer. The blasts barely missed Twen as he snatched a device of his own off the table and fired it at each guard. The beams of energy struck both guards directly and in a blinding flash both vanished. Spinning back to the huge machine in the center of the room, Twen flipped a final switch and then pressed his hand against some sort of device to grant him access. A part of the machine's outer wall slid up to reveal a small hatch inside, pulsing with light. Twen was just about to enter when a horrific screeching sound filled the chamber. He looked up to see the entire upper half of the chamber dissolve, revealing an electric blue skyline pulsing with huge proton streams of rainbow color. The view was quickly blocked, however, as the creature that had dissolved the building came into view. Twenten let out a gasp... ... and woke up! ******************* Sitting straight up on the plush sofa beneath him, he tried to calm his racing heartbeat. It was more than a dream he had awakened from, more like... memories. But of what? And where? The questions went unanswered as Kintarra stepped into view. The unicorn's usual coat of white fur was stained with black ash, and several cuts and scrapes marked his proud visage. "Glad to see you up," Kintarra spoke, "I was beginning to worry there for a while. Thats the second time this week you've gone off like that, didn't know if you would recover from this one." "... gone off?" Twen looked puzzled, before the recent battle returned to him. "Headhunter Chieftain... he attacked again! And he was so powerful... not like before... and... and..." "And you let him have it," Kintarra finished. "Actually, you let EVERYTHING have it. When you cut loose with that power you have you almost destroyed the entire street. Fortunately the blast knocked me back into the fountain, or I would have ended up another pile of ash in that crater you left." "I... I'm sorry if I hurt you." Twen said apologetically. "Did I really do much damage to the street?" "Well you left some blast marks on the temple, blew apart part of the north-west fountain, and left a 10 foot deep crater in the street," Kintarra saw Twen go pale with the news, "but don't worry too much about it. Its obvious you didn't do it on purpose, and two of the Oracles are there right now working on the damages. It should all be repaired by morning. As for Headhunter Chieftain... gone again. But you hit him dead on with that blast... I think this time he may just be gone for good." Twen had stopped listening to the words coming from Kintarra as his eyes took in the surroundings around them. His brain had clicked with recognition at the sight of the towering shelves climbing to the vaulted cieling in every direction. Thousands... no tens of thousands of books lined the shelves. "We're in the library!" Twen whispered in a shocked voice. "Yeah," Kintarra smiled, "Vaz brought us here and then went to check up on something. Said he would be back in a couple of minutes to talk to you." "Vaz?" Twen asked. "Oracle Vaserius, actually, but Vaz will do." The voice seemed to come from all around, followed immediately by a flash a few feet away from the sofa. The figure that appeared was garbed in long flowing robes, his face masked in shadow by a hood. "You," Twen gasped! "You were the one in the jungle when I first arrived! The one who saved me!" "Yes," Vaz spoke, "I do believe we have already met." ************** The thunder rumbled across the churning waves with a deep con- tinuous roar, preceeded each time by a brilliant flash of lightning. Sheets of rain sliced down from the sky, blowing around with a chaotic fury brought on by the ferocious winds whipping above the water. The surface of the ocean itself was completely unstable, tremendous waves rising up to crash down a moment later in a spray of freezing water. A storm the likes of which was gripping the sky had not been seen in many weeks, and in fact was only the second of its kind to appear in the area. A force of pure nature, it ripped across the ocean like a living thing. And yet, the ship still pressed on. The magnificent galley's sails were pulled tight, almost to the point of being ripped asunder. The strong wind had the ship roaring across the waves with a dangerous speed, complicated by waves big enough to swamp the deck. And the electrical charge in the air had lighting flashing all around the masts, as if taunting the lone vessel. Inside the main cabin the captain had his hands locked around the wheel, fighting with every ounce of strength to keep the vessel on course towards its island sanctuary. He realized what had occurred the last time a storm of such fury had blasted the ship, but he was too busy fighting to keep her up to watch the deck for new arrivals. Thus it was up to Hermes, his parrot companion, to watch the deck through the window of the captain's cabin for any sign of newcomers. Even as the parrots wary eyes scanned the deck through the pound- ing rain, the black sky above the ship began to swirl and churn with unnatural motion. The charge in the air around the vessel increased tenfold, and all at once twelve different lightning bolts converged to explode directly on the Argo's deck. The resulting flash and shattering roar of thunder threw Hermes from his perch, sending the little parrot crashing to the cabin floor. He hopped back up as quickly as possible, and peered out at the deck. Through the pounding rain he saw a dark figure slowly rise to his feet from where the lightning struck. The barely visible stranger cast a quick glance towards the cabin, locking eyes with the parrot. A split second later he turned and leapt over the rail, diving into the churning waves. +-- :)(: --+ +-- :) THE QUEST (: --+ -The Quest- By Skeeve _________________ Through violent seas and demon gails, the captain did boldly voyage on, driven by hope of justice's home, the immortal kingdom of Avalon. With no map to guide him nor compass true, without guidance from moon or stars or sun, He would roam the seas asking each vessel he met, had they heard of the place he called Avalon. Some nights he would sing of the place of his dream, the nobel land he would someday call home. Though the crews would change as the years passed by, none forgot how moonlight in the captains eyes shone, as he sang of a land where all men are free, and they wept at the beauty of Avalon. And the seamen who left him for their family and homes, still kept some of his dream as they went. For they treated each man with kindness of heart, as their captain had so treated them. And they taught of Justice and Freedom for all, as they sang of the captain who voyages on. And though they sail different seas, where ever they go, they sing of the quest in their song, For never have they abandoned the dream, of finding their own way to Avalon. $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ ADVERTISEMENTS $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ BUSINESSES AND SERVICES $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ WA Photography Service by Acolyte VIQer and staff... If currently recurring events are changed in any way, besides notifying the Scheduling Group, should you wish the Kymer Clarion schedule of Events to reflect your event(s) accurately, please *also* submit the change of information as noted above. Want everyone to know who won at your event? Want to provide them with helpful information on how it was played? Just want your winners to be able to see their name in print? Send your submissions to the Kymer Clarion at the above address, and we'll let everyone know who won what and where! =====//=====//=====//=====//=====//=====//=====//=====//=====//===== KYMER CLARION Volume one, Issue Forty, copyright 1996 Clarion Price: Free Editorial Board Rotating Editors: Marianne G, Acolyte Rosaleah, Acolyte VIQer, Acolyte Milen This issue edited by Marianne G Posted to WorldsAway Community Forum on May 15th, 1996. >*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
