This week, Acolyte Sunray VIQer The first thing I'd like to say is to check out the address changes we have made in the How to Publish Articles and Place Advertisement section.. We've been publishing the Clarion now for better than six months. The growth and change over this period of time has been incredible. This week we are one editor shorter than before. Our friend and Co-Editor Acolyte Brynne has decided to leave our staff. In whatever she does, we wish her the best.... Her contributions to the Clarion will be sorely missed. So now we have head sprays, and new items everywhere. New events popping up as the schedule fills. There seems to almost always be something happening somewhere, even if it's just a little penny pitching with Sunray StarRae, or just watching the stars at the Starway. I'm lucky to have found so many good friends here!! This city is like no other in the world... No, "sort of" is *not* my last name, I'll be explaining that sometime. Anyway, I'll be telling about my first real journey through Kymer. I logged into WA as Dark Ranger. As some of you know, I had already created my avatars in advance. Upon arrival at my destination somewhere (at the fountain I think), I took a self-guided tour through Kymer and met some interesting people. I liked Santa Land (is that what you call the snowy area in Meditation Park?) a lot since where I live, there's no snow so it was pretty fun to walk around or even just stand around in the snow. I didn't pick up any freebies off the ground or buried in the snow although I got a light blue candle from the Visitor's Center somewhere. The vendos are pretty fun to use. I got some Jungle Fruit(?)from one of them. Now I have to figure out how to eat it. Although I was warned in advance about them, I was a bit disappointed at all the locked doors. I hope they will soon be open for all to explore. After we get our turfs, of course. I also realized that it's not much fun to walk (or run) around Kymer without a head since you can't "hear" or "speak" or even "see", as some avatars joked about. Worse, I couldn't gesture much! I'll be saving up for a decent head, you can be sure. My tour around Kymer stopped when I was trying to get to the front of the Temple of Morpheus and then there was a crash saying something about RENO and the Fujitsu client shut down because of a system error. I don't think it was one though. In all, my trip around Kymer was super! Thank you everyone for helping me through it! Investigating this phenomenon, we discovered that a major reason for this is that the lost folk are walking around in circles, looking for the door by which they entered the shop. Of course, all the doors in V-Mart lead further into the store, not out of it. Of course, everyone soon learns to just look for the EXIT mat to leave. At least we haven't heard of anyone who ever went into V-Mart and never returned. You've all seen the statue of Cupid in Meditation Park's Rose Garden, but did you spot Eros standing outside the Park itself the other night? The red-headed Eros was dressed all in red and white, of course. We didn't see him carrying a bow or a quiver of arrows: apparently, he leaves the actual matchmaking to Cupid. Have Vampirella and Prince Dr@cul@ taken up residence in the Temple of Morpheus? We've seen them quite often together in the Tabernacle, standing quietly or talking with friends. They seem fond of purple, and fond of one another, as well. We overheard Wart the frog announce that he doesn't want to be a prince. We aren't sure why not, but we did want to be sure that everyone was aware of this. Isn't this an unusual stance for frogs? Speaking of declarations, we also overheard Thoroughbred telling folks that she's retired now that she's 12. We're sorry to hear that, as we'd wanted to approach her about some racing with the other horses we see around. Perhaps she'll start a second career as a racetrack owner? And speaking of races and racetracks, we were thinking that it might be fun to see how far frogs here jump, or how fast a spider can weave a web. Then we heard that, really, the fastest creatures in town are fuzzies! Believe it or not, they are quick and sturdy and love to race. We've even heard rumors of a fuzzie racetrack being clandestinely built somewhere out of town. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> >>FERRETS CELEBRATE NATIONAL FERRET FREEDOM DAY IN WA by Roga Mae and Ali Quid On December 7th, 1995 Gov. Weld of Massachusetts signed into law a provision that decriminalizes ferret ownership as pets. Until this law was passed, the domesticated species of ferrets were considered wild animals, despite domestication for thouands of years since the ancient Egyptians. While cats were being worshipped as gods, we ferrets were doing all the hard work! Anyway, any law passed that is not specifically an emergency is given 90 days before it becomes 'enforcable'. This means that until March 7th, ferrets who are still in Massachusetts are illegal until the law is active. Then this coming Thursday the ferrets of Massachusettes will proudly make themselves known in public. But this is not true everyplace. The state of California still has a ban on private ferret owner- ship as pets. Attempts to revise the law have failed, but the citizens will continue the effort. Certain counties of Texas specificly ban ferrets, as well as a few other areas of the United States. For more specific information on the criminalization of ferrets, you can post requests in CIS:Animals, section two (ferrets). National Ferret Freedom Day is significant to us because we wish every human with a passing interest in ferrets to know about us. When we were first purchased, we were 'owned' by a human who took very little care for us. We do not wish to discuss this here, except to say we wish that she had known more about us and our unique needs as ferrets before she took us from the pet store. In addition to celebrating the new found freedom of ferrets in the State of Massachussettes, National Ferret Freedom day will be our annual day to celebrate these three things: 1) the legal freedom we enjoy in our state of Indiana (or whereever we are legal) 2) the freedom we wish to see for our kind in other areas around the world 3) and to inform the curious public that we are unique as pets; please find out all you can BEFORE you take one of us as companions! In celebration of our freedom, Ali and I (Roga Mae) will be taking public vows of our unique relationship together. Both of us have been altered at the tender age of five weeks old, but we are still affectionate. As usually the races were held on Friday, outside Isle Caribe. The cloud was very crowded, no wonder that so many people fell down to the floor from time to time . We've some new rules in March which I will explain at the next races before we start. Finally we got a championship prize for the February championship winner ! It is a PAPERBAG HEAD, really funny to look at ! You'll find a picture of the championship winner wearing the head also in the NEWS STAND file library (GRFEBR96.GIF). Congrats to MIVO again !! And here are the results: Winning one race each were Chris Storm who got a pink valentine, Dedanann Srk who took home 80 tokens and Astrid snatched Hot_Chocolate ! Getting two items was Bud Drakir winning an EPROM (Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory) and a snowball which still doesn't melt ! Because Kymer avatars cover all time zones, races will be held at different times during the inaugural month of March. We will be hosting the events to provide everyone an opportunity to play. All Duckolyte sponsored events are hosted in both English and German. A regularly established time will be set for the following months. When Turfs arrive, they will be held in the Duckolyte Hall. To follow tradition, they will be hosted in front of Isle Caribe until such time that Turfs become available. We follow all of the standard rules for ghost racing documented in the Ghostg.txt file found in the forum. Several races with variations will take place on race day and will be explained at that time. Please pay close attention to these variations. The two special races for the month of March are Box Racing and Screen Racing. The rules are as follows: Box Racing Rules: Rules for Box Racing are simple. When the host disappears from the screen ... and only when the host disappears from the screen ... everyone will try to grab the item out of the box. The box is left on the ground open. This is like regular races but with a small twist. It requires an extra mouse movement that currently does not exist with regular races. You must give the host what is in the box in order to claim the prize. The prize is always better than what is in the box. Screen Racing Rules: This one is a little more complicated. The host and assistant will put three sealed boxes on the ground. You must grab a box and be the first one to give it to the assistant on the next screen to the right. The first one to do so will win the prize. The assistant will verify the box contents. He will inform the host and all racers of the winner. Prizes include a wide assortment of rare and current items, tokens, and heads. There will be a special prize awarded to the Monthly Champion. Monthly Champions from the prior two months are not eligible for these prizes to try to make it fair for everyone. This includes Acolyte Serena's and Holger's races. The first two races are scheduled for Sunday, March 10 at 7:00 a.m.WAT and Wednesday March 13 at 6:00 p.m. Please watch the schedule closely for the remaining dates. We are looking for creative ideas on how to use a lockable chest. The obvious way would be to hide it, and do something similar to the MAD races. I have several ideas myself, but thought it would be very interesting to see what the creative minds of Kymer can come up with. The avatar with the most creative fun idea will be awarded a Pink Baby Bear. Background information: Lockable chests can not be pawned, so they are of little use to anyone but the owner. They can only be opened by the owner of the chest. The contest does rely on avatars returning it to the host, or the host being present when opening the chest. Keep this in mind when thinking of a game. Rules: Games should be limited to two hours of play, and more points go to ideas that include a monthly winner as well. As for the race results.... Winning one race each were Christopher Storm for flowers in a vase and Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler won some Hot Choclate. There was also an unknown winner for the last race for 100 Tokens. With the winner being ID'd by others as being either LongWalk or Duckolyte Davy Joe, but no confirmation could be had. Oh well, it was the last for the month anyway. ;;shrug;; Winning two each were Necrolyte Benny, Cr. Actionizer, Utopia and S?�e. Cr. Actionizer won a small pink valentine and 50T, Benny won a snowball and a Lace Heart Head, Utopia took home 100T and S?�e took away 50T and a heart chest. That left S?�e tied with Cr. Actionizer with the lead with 8 wins each for the month and the raceoff was to be after the regular races, as is normally done. I'm not sure what happened. As mentioned, there are many wierd things on the dreamscape. When the other races were done, there was no S?�e to race for the prize, leaving Cr. Actionizer to eventually claim it for himself. Just when there was a chance to have our first female ghost race champ. Ah well, History is yet to be made. One last note.... We had a Sadie Hawkins Day race at CHAOS where the ladies chased down the men. With the slow speed of some of these men, you would think that they really did want to go down the altar. However, as it was not truly Sadie Hawkins day, the race did not count, and marriage was not enforced. In the first race Claudia from Germany captured both Pegasus and Wart. Second race found Damia capturing Wart and Cut-Me-Own- Throat Dibbler. Claudia caught Pegasus again, and JayVee managed to escape capture. The final race found Damia bringing Wart and Pegasus in, Claudia returned empty handed, and JayVee and Dibbler returned uncaught.
