Acolyte Brynne is taking a short break from Worlds Away. So Sweet Suz and I have the great honor of sitting in the Editors chair! I sure hope that we don't scratch the mahogany furniture. Sweet Suz and I decided to tackle this big job of putting ESP together. I do not have a clue how Brynne is able to put together ESP each week, along with her RW and Acolyte duties. We will be more than happy to welcome Brynne back to this seat for the next issue. This issue of ESP is FULL of great things. This past week has been very busy and entertaining. Everyone has returned home (Safely we hope) from the Gathering in San Francisco. We have some comments from Askani and Cosmocat on the fun they had. The WARaffle Anniversary party was a SMASH HIT! Sweet Suz has all the details for the events we attended. Oracle Uni went on stage and answered many questions. Cosmocat and Mufasa have some comments on this event. Passion decided to go under the Host SpotLight. She has provided us with a great article for you to read. We have lots of GIFS in this issue for the Host Spotlight and for the new auction coming up, October 4th from The Immortal Thor. I have to bring up one small point that I found amusing, in putting this edition of ESP together. I received an Email request for something to be put into ESP. The person asking for the publication did not want to bother us, but would like to know if they could have something put into the paper. I would like to point out to everyone that ESP is the Kymerian NewsPaper for all people in WorldsAway. Without your submissions, we would not have a thing to tell everyone. So please, do not hesitate to send us your stories, GIFS, event happenings. All the ESP staff would be more than happy to accommodate you and get the word out. So STOP here and fill up your coffee cups, then read on. Have fun this coming week in Phantasus, and be sure to tell us all about it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Cover Story ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} The West Coast Gathering, One Duck's Experience {!} By Askani, Duckolyte Sr. Wing When Sunray Oliver mentioned he was going to organize a ratava gathering on the west coast, my first thought was, there's no way this duck's wings can fly that far. But then I remembered hearing about those airline things that will actually fly you there, so I decided to give it a shot, and I'm certainly glad I did. I arrived at the Concord Sheraton around 11:00 P.M. on Friday night. I took a few minutes to fluff my feathers and then went in search of the VC. Thinking, "this hotel could use several transporters," I knew I was in the right corridor when I first passed MarvL's turf, then the Werts' turf, and finally arrived at the VC. Sunray Love greeted me with a big HUG (and what else would I have expected from her? ), and Jaeger handed me my name tag and nearly poked my eye out with that big horn of his! Sabertooth had a great shirt on with an iron-on transfer of his avey, and I found out that Harlequin is also a red head-- I knew there was something about her I liked. I heard several, "What took you"s and "You finally made it!"s as I made my way over to grab a Sparkolyte soda. Feeling very comfy and extremely welcome, I sat and tucked my webbed feet under me and focused on finding out who everybody was. People came and went; Aisha returned from the hot tub, Mrs. Wert came in, but before long, midnight came, and Oliver threatened to hit Remove all Guests, saying he wanted us well rested for Saturday's schedule. So I trekked back to my room, wishing I could hit F1 for a map of the place (it's very spread out). A bunch of folks met for breakfast at 8:00 Saturday morning, but I opted to sleep in; good thing too, there was a sign at the restaurant that said "Do not feed the ducks." All I can say is their loss. We were scheduled to start in the conference room at 9:30, but Oliver had some, um, "difficulty" getting us settled, as this was the first time we had all been in the same room. MarvL formally introduced himself (such the gentleman), and I was so glad to meet Evergreen, who radiates her forum post tag line, "Happy Everything!" We began with a round of introductions and, after a short break, moved into the panel discussion. Our panelists were Lindy, MarvL, and Harlequin. The first question posed by Oliver was about in-world relationships. Lindy stated that the potential to be hurt, emotionally, is very prevalent. Harlequin said it's also difficult to know what you're getting into some times. MarvL suggested that each party state boundaries up front to avoid any miscommunication or potential heartbreak, but Lindy added that feelings can't always be qualified in advance. We broke for lunch, when Sabertooth was nice enough to let me use his laptop to print answer sheets for the upcoming Duckolyte trivia. After a quick lunch with some other ratavas, we went back to the panel discussion. This time the question was "What would you like in WA that does not currently exist?" I think any frequent (or even not so frequent) reader of the forum can come up with MarvL's one-word response--no, not "government" but "documents." Lindy was more focused on additional acolytes and glue, and Harlequin concurred. Meanwhile, Mary, SysOp, took copious notes. After a lively debate on how documents would simplify an inworld vote, we moved on to Duckolyte trivia, hosted by Lindy, Melissa T, and myself. We posed ten rather difficult questions, with Wert emerging as the winner, Mrs. Wert in second, and Cosmocat in third. Wert won a very rare home-made brown fuzzie, courtesy of Sunray Ann, and second and third had a choice between T-shirts and hats donated by FSC. We were actually ahead of schedule, so we took a break while the FSC folks arrived. We met the art staff, the VP of marketing, and several others, including all three Oracles. Uni gave a lecture from her KIU class on the avatar/ratava relationship and seepage from WA into the waking world, followed by a Q&A period. Then F. Randall Farmer gave a presentation on the past, present, and future of virtual worlds. He mentioned that as people move from one virtual world to another (i.e., Club Caribe to WA), they like to take similar things with them to foster a sense of community; for example, Marianne G's Choke machine, and the ghost cloud from the original Habitat that is now back in Habitat II. He also had a word of advice for the user: Hack the client! This is the only way for the client to know the system is not secure (he said he loved the paint mapping incident). When Mr. Farmer was finished, we all chatted for a bit while the bartender set up, then it was dinner time. Our table's conversation focused, oddly enough (or maybe not), not on WA but on Star Trek, past, present and future. After dinner, we played several games of Kymer Bingo, led by the hostess with the mostest, Melissa T. Then the winners of the Avatar look-alike contest were announced. MarvL and Sabertooth won first and second place, respectively, for the guys, and Mercy D. Benz and yours truly (de ja vue all over again) won for the women. Thus the official portion of the Gathering ended, but we were chatting, first downstairs then up in the VC, until the wee hours of the morning. Aisha gave me the detailed scoop on the Bunker Muck, Harley and I contemplated going dancing in the bar, and Teresias discussed with Oliver that the most important thing to do if one wishes to become an Acolyte is simply to ACT like an Acolyte inworld. We were all so busy yapping that we almost forgot the Treasure Hunt that Tulip and Sabertooth had planned--the first three to find both of their rooms won a special prize. A bunch of us decided to search en masse and received three bottles of Kymer Country Comfort from Tulip for our efforts. We stayed in the VC until around 2:30 am, then I got to spend some time with the Werts, who presented me with a lockable wooden chest (one of a kind!) in which to take my valuables home. I left at the crack of dawn (at least that's what it felt like) the next morning and said goodbye to Sabertooth, who was kind enough to make me an iron-on transfer of my avey to take home with me. On the first leg of my flight, who did I see but Love and Pops, and Pops was even on my connection home! There's a lot I left out of this tale, including some pretty juicy stuff. You want to find out what? Well, you'll just have to come to the next Gathering and ask me in person! {!} Comments from Cosmocat--Wish You Were There? {!} By Cosmocat He, he, well, I have to admit that attending the West Coast Gathering of Avatars... uhm, ratavas was really fun. It was very strange being face to face with people I'd talked to only online, and having those vague fuzzy pictures in my head replaced with 3-D true color images. The Oracles were the biggest surprise for me. I had pictured Vaserius as a skinny guy with glasses, Teresias as a short, pudgy, balding guy, and Uni as a sea urchin. Boy, was I wrong! Especially Uni. But now, whenever I see them inworld, I'll be laughing because they look *nothing* like their avatars. And as soon as I perfect my impression of Oracle Uni's voice, I'll be laughing even harder. Sorry, Uni. It was also nice to meet Hunter, Mary and Laurie, our sysops. Mary took notes so she could pass on our suggestions to the Dreamscape Team. And it was really neat meeting all the avatars I'd talked to inworld, and a few I hadn't. Lots of really neat people. Now, for those who couldn't attend, here are some of the highlights you missed: *Flying loop-the-loops in a tiny Kymer Air plane over San Francisco Bay with pilot Oliver. *Playing live Duckolyte Trivia and winning RW rare items. *Dog jokes with Wert. *Finding out what MarvL is *really* like. *Getting our very own golden handcuffs, spiders, tokens and WorldsAway mousepad. *Going on a "find the Acolyte's rooms" treasure hunt. *Giving tokens to the newbies. *Watching Oracle Uni disrupt Kymer Bingo. *Seeing who can go the longest without a WA fix--and who can't. *Standing under the ghost cloud doing in RW. *Getting lots of phone calls from avatars who were there in spirit. *Finding the Oracles in the Bar-L with a Farmer. *Seeing a certain Acolyte do a 3-D fern dance--almost. *Holding a rare brown fuzzie in the RW. *Shooting the breeze with Teresias into the wee hours. *Finding out what color Oracle Uni's new cat is. *Watching the "Yellow Jacket Dance" at the greasy spoon. *Having all the Oracles unghosted in the same locale. *Meeting Randy Farmer in person--and finding out who his avatars have been in all the versions of Habitat. *Learning secrets behind the inworld graffiti, spinning eggs, morphing objects, the void, misplaced pixels and other mysteries of Kymer. *Finding out exactly *how* soon before documents are introduced. .. and a few other things, like what objects are coming soon and what the Oracles do when they think no one is watching. And that's about it. Really. Until next time, Cosmocat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Feature Stories ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} From an Acolyte's Notebook {!} By Acolyte Brynne Saturday, March 30, 1996 1-3:00 p.m. WAT This was a very busy shift today. Even though there were two of us on duty, I got 19 pages. Mivo was a real big help with a couple newbies who apparently didn't speak English. One of them chose a name which in English translates into a name which would be very offensive to German-speaking avatars. Mivo tried unsuccessfully to get this avatar to change his name. I was swamped with pages and was having a hard time keeping up with the conversation in the VCC, but I managed to catch enough. For a while, I was nothing but a place holder in there because I couldn't get out of page/ESP mode long enough to say or do anything to the screen. So I ghosted and watched from the cloud as I was answering pages/ESPs. One of our more notorious thieves was in the VCC. A few of his victims were in there, too, trying to get him to pay them the tokens for the stuff he'd stolen. When the pages seemed to slack off for a bit, I unghosted and told everybody in there that they had to face reality. They'd been conned and it is very rare that a thief will return the items or reimburse them for their losses. I told them that while I don't condone what this avatar is doing, they must realize that they had to have participated or else the thief couldn't have gotten *anything* from them. Unfortunately, it went over their heads as they seem to prefer to place the blame outside themselves. Had to ghost again. I am no longer even going to *try* to work the help desk when pages and ESP requests for help are this busy. It is impossible to be all things to all people. Helping the newbies streaming into the VCC means ignoring the pages. Answering pages means ignoring the newbies. Since there were enough people in the VCC to answer questions (which they were doing), I decided my priority had to be answering the pages. Pages are as follows, with notes: 1.Page from Harlequin Games: An avatar is "stuck" at HG and has been for two days now. Sleeping? I dunno. Pager wanted me to move the stuck avatar to another locale. I replied that I don't have the ability to do that but I would pass the request along to the Oracles. 2. From the Argo: no reply 3. "Have a problem with an avatar and can't locate him. Any suggestions." I suggested he try to ESP him. Turns out the pager had already done that but that the avatar wasn't inworld. Suggested he make a post in the forum under the "Missing Avatars". He replied he'd already done that but got no answer. Then he told me that this avatar posts in the forum and he had his UID. So I says "Well, send him email then." Pager replied that he'd already done that but didn't get an answer. I told him that I was all out of suggestions since there's nothing I could personally do to locate an avatar for him. THEN he tells me "Well, I have reason to believe that this avatar is mad at me and doesn't want to talk to me." I just finally told the pager that there really wasn't anything more I could suggest; if the other avatar doesn't want to talk to him, there's nothing I can do about it. He finally realized the truth in what I was saying so he finally let it alone. 4. No reply 5. From the Argo: "I'm new." Yup, that's what I got in response to "How may I help you?" So I found myself having to handhold him/her up thru the body machine. 6. (From the thief in the VCC) "I want a heart chest." I told him that I was on duty, that if he wanted one, he'd have to find an Acolyte who wasn't on duty as I was really too busy to go get him one. He wasn't happy with my reply and told me he'd pay me 10 tokens. I repeated that I was very busy with pages and just didn't have the time to go get him a heart chest. THEN he says, "Give me the code and I'll get it myself." And I replied: "Pardon me? No way!" And he asked "Why not?" To which I replied that the area is off limits to non-staff and I would *not* give him the code to get there. That's all there was to it. 7. Pager asking if any of the WARaffle sellers were there. (Honestly, do these people think we can see in every single locale, know everyone who's online?!?) Told her I didn't know, but she could try ESPing for them. 8. Another one from Harlequin Games asking for me to remove the stuck avatar. 9. "Is there an oracle here?" I asked if there was anything I could do. Turns out he wanted an oracle to engrave an item. Explained to him that oracles are only engraving prize items, that they were getting too many requests and it was keeping them too busy. He wasn't happy and said "But this is SPECIAL." And I replied, "Yes, and every other request is special to the requester." He finally understood what I was saying, but expect to be approached. Methinks he's gonna keep trying. 10. From the Argo: First thing I got from this one was "ENTER DOOR". He obviously thought that he was in a game that took word commands. I explained how to click on the door and select passthrough. Next thing I got was "UNLOCK DOOR". Not going to go into the whole series of word commands he sent me, but it took about 20 minutes for him to finally get to the body machine where he ESP'd me "CHANGE BODY". Throughout all his ESPs, I continued to explain about the mouse clicks. And obviously he was using them since he DID get to the body machine. But he just kept sending me these word commands. 11.Another request from Harlequin Games for me to move the stuck avatar. Same reply as before. 12. From the Argo: "Where do I start?" Worked with this one too all the way through to the body machine. 13. Pager's explanation for paging made little sense, she was reporting that someone (no name given) was accused of theft and that the others in the locale were getting pretty abusive. I asked if it needed my intervention, and explained that the pages were coming fast and furious today. A few minutes later she reported that the avatar had ghosted. A little while later, she again paged and told me the avatar was back, that I might want to go over there and check out the situation. As I was in the VCC ghost cloud and other pages were coming in at the same time, I could no longer use my book to teleport there. So I started to make my way there. But it took me a good 15 minutes to get there because of all the pages. And at one point, I'd unghosted in a locale where I found the avatar who'd just paged me but didn't reply. Newbie with the default name needed help getting to the Temple. 14. Newbie with default name: when I unghosted, it took a few minutes for him to talk to me, he wasn't sure I was Acolyte Brynne. Explained how to ID avatars, answered a few other questions, and at the same time Pager #13 was still ESPing me about the goings on at the Magic Shop ... I lost a few of the ESPs to scrolling, unfortunately. Since I *was* headed in that direction, I led the newbie to the Temple Registry. Got to the Magic Shop finally, no one was there, ESP'd Pager #13 and she said "It's all over. The head was returned." She also told me she was at the Help Desk and would stay there to help. I thanked her, telling her I was heading back and would be in the ghost cloud in case I was needed. 15."Where is my avatar?" 16. "How to I change clothes?" By this time, I'd reached the VCC and there were only a few there so I unghosted. A few minutes later, Pager #13 went right and I was answering newbie questions. 17. Pager #13 again. "A thief is in the VCR stealing from a newbie." 18."Add [avatar name] to the thief list." 19. Avatar7587: no reply Busy, busy shift today! {!} Comments from Cosmocat--Unique Oraculations {!} By Cosmocat I had the unparalleled pleasure of witnessing Oracle Uni's turn at fielding questions during the second inworld conference with an oracle. First, I have to say that she should *know* better than to *use* a cat. Especially magic ones. Oh, and where does she *find* all these magical cats, anyway? Does she sleep in the Jungle or something? And she had better have been kidding when she said she was gonna alter their genetics so they'd behave. Cats do not like to be altered in any way, shape, or form. If she thinks their behavior is unpredictable now, just alter one of those cats and *then* see what happens. Ok, that said, I'll attempt to translate from Psychobabble what she said so those members of the community who are *normal* will be informed. Questions from the ghost gallery included the usual "When are getting ? The answers, in no particular order, are: Meditation Park expansion--by Halloween (how many tokens you wanna put on this one? ); accessories--some will be released *exactly* (to the second) after version 1.2 is released; inworld mail--well, she didn't say, but at the gathering, she said limited document capabilities would be released soon enough so that if you started to hold your breath on Saturday, September 21, you would not be dead so long as to be too badly decomposed by the time they arrive--or words to that effect ; pets--as soon as the defects are worked out, which will probably be sometime in 1998 . Someone also inquired why some folks have rare objects when others don't. Uni skirted the issue by explaining that some were prizes. She also said that Randy Farmer has a pair of glasses they gave him over a year ago. Over a *year* ago? And we still don't have them? If that's so, why not release them? She wouldn't explain exactly where the whip came from, though, except to say it was an insider who did it. Yeah, that's what they thought about that head-painting cat a while back, too. She also mentioned some upcoming events to keep us amused and using up online time and money: A Fuzzy Frenzy event (whatever that is--race for the rare colored fuzzie vendo before it disappears?); Kymer New Year on November 15 (I can just feel it in my cat bones that *this* is gonna be *really* fun ); and, if we're lucky, Halloween stuff, if my sources are correct. And she said there were plans for new courses at Kymer International University--maybe Uni will teach a class in Psychobabble so all of us can understand her? She also told us where the name Uni came from--she claims to have borrowed it from an Estruscan Sky Goddess who was a protector of women in cities and enabler of fertility and easy childbirth. Hmm... I'm not even gonna touch that last part after seeing Uni with her cyber-hubby at the gathering. She said this goddess also liked to hurl lightning bolts and that she can relate to that. Of course, our Uni only hurls verbal lightning bolts, which, BTW, can be very effective. She was also asked by me, thru Acolyte Data's translate-a-tron, where she draws the line as to when "theft" is acceptable. This question drew a rather large response from the ghost cloud--thanks, guys! She attempted to answer by reiterating the usual "from the book" response that each of us must take personal responsibility to protect ourselves and property. I personally don't think there is theft inworld, with the exception of hacked accounts, because you must be an active participant to allow someone to take something from you. Of course, having glue and a turf that is locked by default with a menu of the owners would be helpful. I do agree with Uni's comment that we must make reasonable choices about who we trust, though. I don't agree with her comment that oracles don't use their powers casually. I know she and the others use them for entertainment (which I think they should be able to do) and demonstration purposes (for the media, for example). Of course, maybe she meant they don't *abuse* their powers. She also gave us a rundown of what some of her duties are as an Oracle: (translated into English for your enjoyment) Conflict mediation (trying to get a harasser and a helper to work out a disagreement); world development (deciding which locale is more important: Meditation Park with all four seasons or the Jungle with *anything*); event planning (deciding whether Fern Day should be held on the same day as a planned server crash, thereby eliminating the possibility of anyone remembering that there were really only two new items introduced, despite all the new vendos); crisis counseling (trying to talk a helper out of his decision that he wants to be an Acolyte); and a few others like teaching classes at the KIU, judging (she spelled it *right!*) events, performing marriages and "scrounging" up prizes. Hmm... I thought the Oracles created those prizes. Oh, and she also explains the service to "customers, media and *other FSC departments*." Well, no wonder no one knows what's going on at FSC--Uni's the one explaining it all. She also gave a brief lecture on Buddhism when asked if it was "fair" for formerly rare objects to be re-introduced. Thanks, Uni. Of course she failed to mention that FSC has absolute power of creation, and if they so choose, can indeed create fairness *and* predictability inworld. And last and most importantly, least, there was a rogue ghost in attendance at the end of the questioning period. I personally think it was an attempt by Vaz and Teresias, who were hiding in the ghost cloud, to get Uni to shut up. Kind of an oracular alarm clock. I'm not sure who the ghost was, he was a "fellow avatar" according to his tell me about. Maybe it was a test for inworld pets? Or a demonstration to the media that you can become any object you want to? It *may* have had something to do with the lunar eclipse occurring, but I doubt it--outworld phenomena usually cause server crashes, not rogue ghosts. The World may never know. Until next time, Cosmocat {!} Host Spotlight {!} By Sweet Suz This week our Hostess Spotlight Shines with Passion! Passion is a lady who is so well known in our little community, she shows a kind face to everyone, she is helpful to the newbies, she is the hostess for games, she helps everyone who just may need a hand! This Lady of the Dreamscape, has a sense of humor to keep us all going, however, she also has a sharp mind that can keep us all on our toes! Jal and I sent Passion our standard questions as a guideline to tell us what she would like us, her fans and you our readers, to know about Passion (Pinkie)! The answers she sent to us was Fantastic! There is no other words for it! Fantastic! We wouldn't change a thing! She has told us indepth about her life in WorldsAway and we would like to bring that to you! We are going to leave our questions just as she put them in her answers back to us! This Lady also sent us Gifs to go with our Host Spotlight Article which you will find attached to ESP! Does this show Enthusiasm or what? Thank you Passion for showing us that your name really does fit your personality! She does throw herself into any chore she attempts! Passion also gave us her Web Page address; so that we may visit it and see all her Gifs from her history in WA, so visit her at: http://www.tiac.net/users/davemc/passion.htm So now on to the interview! 1. Tell us how long you have been in Worlds Away Approximately 8/30/95. I saw the WA demo CIS CD and of course was interested instantly. I kept checking the WA Forum for the software to download, then I sort of forgot about it. Month's later, my son reminded me to check to see if the software was available and it was. In fact, it had just become available on the day that I had checked. I started the download which was in the forum, not on a GO page, and spoke to people about the software. I was a little uneasy about my Pentium 90 with 8 MB RAM making it in, but after the download was finished I installed the software and entered WA with no problem. I later on got an upgrade of RAM to 16 MB and noticed a world of difference in how the software ran. When the screen cleared I was on the Argo. We only had one body type then (medium female and male). There was a body machine but only to change gender, but was all it did. I didn't buy a head from the machine on the Argo, nor did I get 50T from the ATM there, but I did get my 50T from the Cabin where Hermes is. I then entered my name, Passion, in the Book of Names and entered the city. I was greeted by Clover, Scuttle, Kari and Gigaki, who took me under their wing and showed me the city and bought me a head, which was a Woman_Head if I remember correctly. I became so excited at the sight of other avatars with me on screen and speaking to them in realtime. Ever since then I have signed on nightly. I was in wonder and awe that there were minds in our waking world that could think up something like this. It was no chat service as I had been used to. I could tell this was to be a community, not a game because of the friendships I developed quickly. My favorite games back then were Ghost Racing, Dreamers Insomniac Society and Worlds of Fortune. I made sure I made those each week but nowadays, I rarely have the time. 2. Tell us about your Newbie days/experiences My newbie days were mostly hanging out with Clover, Scuttle, Remus, and LoneReb by the fountain or wherever we decided to congregate for the night. I would check the schedule each day to see what activities were going on and attend the ones that were interesting and fun. Due to the name I had chosen, newbies who entered the world and saw me usually ESP'd or said out loud lewd and disgusting comments. I chose the name 'Passion' because I have a 'Passion for Life', not for other reasons as these jerks would assume. Receiving those comments hardened my character because I would be angered and perhaps hurt they would say such things, but then I got stronger every time it happened. The friends I began to hang out with each night also were just as disturbed at the comments and suggested I hire Bodyguards . (SEE GUARDS.JPG) A new phase began in the life of Passion. After putting a up a forum post, my e-mail box went crazy with guys begging to be my bodyguards for free! The first bodyguards I hired were, Darkavatar, LoneReb, Tasslehoff and Feu Des Astres. When the jerks came over making nasty comments these guys took care of them. It was a sight to see and pretty soon I had to ghost for my bodyguards . After watching them handle jerks, I also learned from that. Soon I could handle these fools myself and outgrew the need for guards at my side . Lots of Acolytes were around in those days quite a bit, and did a lot of hosting. And to this day I've never paged one. We always handled any problems that arose around us ourselves. I only remember one thief, Mr. Musty. Clover and I were playing around one day with our newbie heads being sort of silly and this fool Mr. Musty comes up asking for our heads and he'd give us 10,000 tokens each. No one even HAD 10,000 tokens in those days. We laughed at him and were pretty vicious. Never saw HIM again! Around Halloween, a new coffin-shaped vendo appeared in the Nuyu. It had a Skull Head, She's Dead Head, He's Dead Head, Poodle Head, Bride Head, and a Monster Head (may have been more but I don't remember). There were also some other Halloween items like Halloween bags for 25T and Halloween candy for 10T a piece. I bought like 3 of everything and threw them in a chest never knowing later on they would be worth thousands of tokens months later. In those days we had no concept of 'rare' items. No one had the token base you hear of or witness at an auction today. We did not have the concept of selling or buying or auctioning items to others. That mentality just wasn't even present until much later. (SEE HALLOWEN.GIF) As time passed, a new thief named Head Hunter Chieftain was wreaking havoc across the dreamscape each evening, making the acolytes work overtime. At Christmas, I wanted to give all of my bodyguards the Bruno Heads and body sprays so that they would look alike and in uniform when on duty . When they were all on-line we went to the temple to exchange gifts. However, we couldn't find a 3-person Temple room free (which was as usual in those days before turfs). So we opted for the Tabernacle. Headhunter Chieftain and Hellrazor come in with the intent to steal. We called them all sorts of names and golden handcuffed them repeatedly (we had all just taken MarvL's Apex training). They didn't get a thing from us and were highly upset we had foiled their robbery attempts. I don't think they had ever been stopped or been handcuffed and they didn't know how to take it. THEY paged an acolyte on US by the time we were done with them . One day in the v-mart, Cyberdude asked what colors he should use with an Ice Cream Head. We went to the V-mart and I picked out the best colors, red pants to match the cherry on top and brown shirt to match the cone. When the outfit was complete I was proud of what I had chosen as Cyberdude really looked great! Huckleberry (our auction security Phrog) says 'Hey Pash! This could be a business for you!" he continued, "I can see it now! Passion's Fashions -- Let us Spray your World!" I laughed hysterically for a minute and then began to think. Cyberdude told others where he got his look and before I knew it I was in the fashions business, choosing colors for other avatars for 70T a piece. Passion's Fashions is still open daily from 6-8 WAT in turf: Passion's Fashions. About 7-10 avatars use my services daily, including Tony Christopher, Executive Director of WA. . CIS published a press release stating that Turfs would be available on December 12, 1995. Robbery was rampant back then and you could never get a Temple Room to shift through your things. We all became very restless for turfs (well most people). We looked for them that day and didn't find them. A few days after that, LoneReb, Clover, Scuttle and Darkavatar were in the V-mart when Oracle Vaserius appears. They ask him the status on turfs and he informs them that they will not be available on the date stated due to renovation problems on the building. I was a ghost above and all of us agreed that we didn't like that answer too much. So a few days later, Scuttle had a macro he was repeating during the night "NO TURFS NO PEACE". The following night we decided to make our displeasure of the unavailability of turfs heard by all so we blocked the West ATM shouting 'NO TURFS NO PEACE!' repeatedly. Several acolytes ESP'd that we had to move which we did eventually, just not immediately. We then moved to the EAST ATM (LOL) and the same thing happened, acolytes ESPing that we had to move due to complaints. So we moved again to the v-mart Pawn machine and blocked that. Same thing happened again, acolytes telling us to move. So we moved to outside the Visitor's Center. We figured this was the best place to be heard and be seen since just about everyone hung out at the VC in those days. Clover had a Video Camera Head to get it all down on Video, I had a TV Head for TV News coverage (news at 11!) and Huck held a Gingerbread house to represent the turf. We stood there for hours repeating "NO TURFS NO PEACE!" Others joined in and before we knew it we had a the first full scale in-world protest. The ghost count went from about 10 to 50 ghosts watching and coming down to participate. When the protest was in full swing I started to get EPSs from people who claimed to be WA Developers who were working on bringing us turfs every day. Scuttle and I sorta got a little afraid as he was receiving them too and we thought we were about to be zapped off the system but at least we would be remembered that we went out with a bang . The developers told us that there were major bugs and that they just can't be released now. All we had wanted at the time was a date which they really could not give us. The protest occurred in early January. (SEE PROTEST.GIF IN THE WA FORUM) Shortly after getting these peculiar ESPs Oracles Teresias and Uni showed up and joined in the protest. They showed us up with better Protest macros that rhymed and told us they wanted turfs too! Of course there was Peace at last when turfs were finally released April 28 of this year. 3. Tell us how you got started in hosting One day while hanging out with my bodyguards and a new one named Brimble, I got esps from Scuttle one night asking "Do you have any rare items?" I didn't even know what he was referring to. He says, "Items that are not in the vendo anymore." I told him yes I had quite a few but I was going to keep them as I wanted to decorate my turf when they became available. He informed me that day that he was now in the business of selling and buying rarities in WA. I was a little shocked that he would start a business since his usual status quo was winning all he could from the games offered back then. Later he informs me that he and Clover will be having auctions instead of outright buying. So Kymer Collectibles was born and the first auction occurred in February of this year on the Starway Stage. He asked me to help by being present for every auction and taking all questions regarding the items. Since I had been here as long as they had, I knew what they knew, etc. So each week I showed up and took all questions from the cloud. My ESPs would go nuts each week with constant ESPs from up to 80 ghosts, but somehow I was usually able to handle all questions that came in. If a question was asked by many people I would just say the question and the answer outloud instead of individual return of ESPs. We had many, many thieves, idiots and "Disruptatars" in those days, since the auction was held in a public locale instead of at turfs, where we have control. Over time, we both developed ways of dealing with them by never letting the idiot get acknowledged as this is just what they are looking for, an attention-getting payback of some sort for disrupting. We found ignoring an idiot was the best approach. They would usually wreak havoc for short period of time before getting tired and bored since they were not obtaining any result with us. We also became the "Queens of Adapting" and took pro-active steps beforehand, making the environment of our event, displeasurable to thieves. Nothing went on the ground making it slim pickings for any would-be thefts. I remember seeing thieves standing outside the Starway Stage highly upset that there was nothing to steal. . We developed thick skins as well, due to the fact that Clover and I were making quite a bit of money at our businesses. There were many avatars who were jealous of this fact, that would defame us in the forum and in world. What these people didn't understand was that we both had great ideas and made something of them. We have worked for every token we have, and have also been here since the beginning when WA first opened the doors. We started with 50t on the Argo just like anybody else. To this day we still have people come up to us upset and jealous that we have a rare head on. Well I'm sorry but the vendo was there, we bought the head, and we are wearing it. Most of the items Clover and I have are from the VENDO! People just don't seem to understand that, and jump to silly conclusions that we are showered with gifts from the Oracles. Nothing could be further from the truth and in the process, we developed thick skins, and could care less what people say. A few months later, Scuttle decided to leave WA for RW reasons, so Clover and I were on our own. We didn't think at first we could do it and continue where he left off, however, we gave each other pep talks and did indeed do it ourselves. So, Clover's Collectibles was born after that. I continued showing up each week, and taking all questions for Clover at the Starway, with her being auctioneer. Her business took off further than Scuttle ever had done, and also took off further than both of use ever imagined. To this day, it is still the most highly attended auction in WA. I still take all questions, and at times I'm also an auctioneer, when we have a 2 ring auction due to the great influx of consignments from other avatars. We move more items faster in a 2 ring than a 1 ring, thus keeping our customers happy, so that they consign with us again and again. Clover has made many avatars very rich by getting them the best prices all the time. The PA gathering was a wonderful experience. I met many avatars I had known for quite a while. One of them was Brains, Wing Commander. He and I started talking and he made big time fun of my Pink Fetish. I told him he's just jealous because he can't wear pink. As we started to talk an idea formed and we both came up with a new game for WA called "Pinkie and the Brains." He said he would run the game plans by an Oracle and get back to me. After that we started hosting the game and it soon became extremely popular. Soon Teresias expressed more interest in the game and offered to be a Guest Celebrity Host. After he made some gameplay suggestions, he put us on his monthly head prize list. We now offer a monthly head prize in a championship at the end of the month. The ghosts are always saying how much they enjoy the game week after week. (SEE BRAINS.GIF) 3. Tell us what it is like to be on the host side of things One thing people don't realize is that providing a game week after week to the dreamscape, requires hours of preparation, commitment and teamwork. We hosts make things look so easy, but we also enjoy it as well, or we wouldn't do it. One of my biggest pet peeves is disrupters. Clover and I don't tolerate them. We have dealt with the best of them and come up on top just about every time, because we learned from each experience with them. We have a reputation for dealing well with disrupters, and making them look like the complete fools they are, so we rarely have a problem these days . You name them, we've booted them . 4. Tell us about your likes/dislikes with Worlds Away I have none and rarely complain. Getting a little tired of their definition of *SOON*. . 5. Tell us about what you see in your future with Worlds Away I plan to be around a long, long time and I hope to continue hosting the Auction, and Pinkie and the Brains for years to come. 6. Tell us some RW things about you. (Where you live, ETC) I live in San Jose, California with my husband-to-be, and my 10 year old son. I just moved from the East Coast, but hope to secure employment in the computer industry, quickly I hope. Until then I will be avidly looking for employment, setting up a new household, making the hubby happy, and looking forward to getting married in real life, and of course the honeymoon . As you can see this Lady of the Dreamscape really does colour our World! She is one of the most honest and outgoing individuals I have ever met! Jal and I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Passion for supplying us with this Interview! We believe that this is one of the Best, that we have ever done! Thanks to all of you who have told us that you like our Host Spotlight! I really like doing this article, as it helps me to also get to know our Hosts and Hostesses a little better! I do not know who I will have as our next Host Spotlight, Yet! However, I am always searching and pestering these great hosts and hostesses, so you never know, it could be one of You! Have a great Week! {!} The Witching Hour {!} By Witchy It is necessary for me to reiterate what I said in a previous issue of ESP News: the information on healing practices is simply my opinion, together with the results of my research. I am not engaged in rendering medical advice. Such advice should be sought from a competent professional person. In the past few issues, you studied the use of herbs in the healing process and learned that Witches have long been considered community healers. In the next few issues you will see some of the other forms of healing used in the Craft, plus less obvious applications of herbs. The Aura ------------ I briefly touched on the aura in an earlier edition of ESP News. To recapitulate, the aura is the electrical magnetic energy that emanates from the human body. Our bodies, of course, vibrate. Animals and plants do the same, for all things radiate energy: a chair, a house, a tree, a flower, a bird. Everything is vibration. So everything gives off an aura. This aura can most easily be seen in humans, however (possibly due to brain activity). The aura is sometimes referred to as the odic force. In Christian art, from the fifth to the sixteenth centuries, it was often depicted around the heads of people believed to possess great spiritual power. There it was referred to as a halo or gloria. It also appeared as a ring of flames around the heads of Moslem prophets. The headdresses of priests, kings and queens symbolize the aura. There are references to the aura in the Christian Bible. In sculpture, there is an excellent example in that of Michelangelo's figure of Moses, which shows him with horns. This has mystified many. The reason for the horns is that in translation the word for "horns" was confused with the very similar word for "rays", so in fact Moses was thought of as "having rays coming from his head" ... the aura. Auric Healing ------------------ In auric healing, you set out to change the condition of a person by visualizing a specific color light around them. These colors are chosen according to the patient's problem. For example, when dealing with the nervous system you would use violet and lavender to obtain a soothing effect. To invigorate, you'd use grass green. To inspire, yellows and oranges. When dealing with disorders of the blood and organs of the body, use clear, dark blues to soothe, grass green to invigorate and bright red to stimulate. When dealing with cases of fever, high blood pressure or hysteria, use blue. For cases of chill or lack of sufficient bodily warmth, concentrate on red. So, for example, if a person is complaining of feeling hot, has a fever and is sweating profusely, you can help immeasurably by concentrating on seeing her completely surrounded by, and absorbed in, a blue light. If she has a stomach pain, then direct a soothing light-green color there. For someone with a nervous headache, see their head surrounded by violet or lavender light. For bleeding, direct clear dark-blue light to the cut. Keep up these visualizations for as long as you can. I give more specifics below, in Color Healing. Pranic Healing -------------------- Pranic healing is done by sending Prana (the "vital force") from your body to the diseases or affected parts, stimulating the cells and tissues to normal activity and allowing the waste material to leave the system. It involves the use of passes and the laying-on of hands. What is Prana? It is the vital force which underlies all physical action of the body. It causes circulation of the blood, movement of the cells and all motions upon which the life of the physical body depends. It is a force that is sent forth from the nervous system, by an effort of the will, when you direct healing. You receive Prana from the food you eat, the water you drink and from the air you breathe. All forms of force and energy rise from the same primal cause, and it is your willingness to increase your own supply, AND SHARE IT, that makes you "gifted" in healing. Everyone, then, actually possesses the "gift" of healing. How can you increase your Prana? By deep breathing. VISUALIZE energy and strength flowing into your body as you breathe in. FEEL it. Feel it going into all parts of your body. Feel it travel along your arms and down your legs. VISUALIZE the love of the Lady and the Lord entering you. Correct breathing sets up an equilibrium between positive and negative currents. It calms your nervous system and regulates and slows your heart activity, reducing your blood pressure and stimulating your digestion. Before doing any Pranic healing, do the following deep breathing exercises: 1. (a) Slowly breathe in, through the nose, to a mental count of eight. 1. (b) Slowly exhale, through the nose, to a count of eight. 2. (c) Slowly breathe in, through the nose, to a count of eight. 2. (d) Hold your breath for a count of four. 2. (e) Slowly exhale, through the mouth, for a count of eight. In (d), as you hold your breath, feel the love, energy, strength and power you have inhaled circulate throughout your body. In (e), breathe out all the negativity within you. Do "1" once, then do "2" three times. Now you are ready to start your healing. This is best done in the Circle. However, if that cannot be - if the patient is unable to come to you, perhaps through being in a hospital or being bedridden at home - then at least draw a circle about him (and the bed, if necessary), with your athame, and fill that circle with white light before starting. Have the patient lie on his back with his head towards the east, if possible. His feet should be together and his arms at his sides. He does not have to be naked, but it is certainly better if he can be (better, in fact, if you both are). He should close his eyes and concentrate on seeing himself encompassed in a ball of white light. You kneel to the left of his legs, if you are right-handed; to his right if left-handed. Reaching forwards, extend your arms and hold your hands with the palms inwards, at the top of his head, about an inch away from actual contact. Take a deep breath then, holding that breath, bring the hands smoothly down the length of the body, one hand on either side, not quite touching the skin the whole way. As you come away from his feet, breathe out and shake your hands vigorously as though you were shaking water off them. You are, in actuality, shaking off the negativity that you have drawn from him. Repeat this process AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES, preferably more. Now sit quietly for a moment, seeing the patient surrounded in white light. When you have got your breath (you will find this can be quite exhausting), then repeat the breathing exercises given above - "1" once and "2" three times. Now for the actual contact. Now lay your hands, gently, one on each side of his head, thumbs resting on his temples. Concentrate (eyes closed if you wish), sending all your energies into him; all the goodness and love of the Lady and the Lord channeled through you into him, to make him well. When you have done this for a while, again sit back and relax, picturing him in the white light. Then once again do your deep breathing followed by placing your hands over/on his head and, again, directing the Pranic force into him. After again resting and doing the breathing, lay your hands on the specific area of problem (e.g. stomach; leg; shoulder) and direct your energies. A final period of rest for you, and picturing him within the white ball of light, completes the process. Do not be surprised if you feel physically drained after such a healing. This will generally be the case. Ignore those who say that if you feel drained you are doing it wrong. On the contrary, feeling exhausted is a good sign that you have done well. Absent Healing --------------------- It is possible to heal a person without them actually being physically present in the Circle. This can be done by using one of these methods: Dancing, Chanting, Cords or Sex, taking the power raised and directing it into the person who is sick. Candle magick is especially effective. Both auric and pranic healing can also be done using a good, clear photograph of the person. Blessed * Be Witchy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Kymer-conomics ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} Kymer-conomics! {!} by Mufasa, Financial Editor Accompanying this column is the long-awaited chart comparing and averaging prices for Kymer's rarest collectibles. Because rarity is not a function of cost, but of scarcity, there was only one criterion for inclusion: five or fewer sales at auction since July 1. Fuzzie Wuzzie Was a Glitch -------------------------------------- For several weeks, we have been urging readers to exercise extreme caution when bidding on brown beta fuzzies, trophies and spittoons. After some judicious poking around and prodding of our anonymous informants, the Econo-Lion can, at last, give you more facts. When these items were mistakenly left in the Fern Day Prize Vendo, the acolytes purchased them at the following prices: fuzzies, 800 tokens; trophies, 160 tokens, and spittoons, 180 tokens. Only one beta fuzzie has been sold at auction, and it fetched a whopping 19,999 tokens. Although it is extremely unlikely that any acolyte has stowed away twenty chests packed with fuzzies, let caveat emptor be the rule; 19,999 tokens is a grossly excessive price for this item. The prophesy about trophies and spittoons is continuing to become manifest. The first July auction price for a brass spittoon was 10,000 tokens, but the most recent was 4,700--a 53% drop. A trophy that brought 16,100 tokens at auction in July sold for only 8,200 tokens in September--a 49.1% decrease. If any of these items are on your must-have list, you will probably get a better deal on the street than at auction. When the Pale Purple Fell ---------------------------------- Those who attended Oracle Uni's conference last Thursday were given some appalling misinformation. The Econo-Lion asked why certain customers were given certain items, such as specs and whips, which are unavailable to most Kymerians, and which the recipients then sold to enrich themselves. Oracle Uni responded as follows: 1) No customer receives preferential treatment over any other; 2) The only recipient of spectacles has been Randy Farmer's wife, and Randy Farmer is entitled to special treatment as the "father" of the technology used in WorldsAway; 3) The whips were distributed by an employee who has been reprimanded: the distribution was unauthorized, but there was no way to reclaim the items (Note: Only moments previous to Uni's pronouncement on the issue of whips, Acolyte Hindemith, aka Hunter Brown, Forum SysOp, stoutly averred in ESP that the whips were the result of an unspecified "program glitch".); 4) The Oracles make very rare contest prizes which are earned by the recipients, who are not beneficiaries of preferential treatment. An in-depth examination of Uni's answer to these questions reveals something disturbing. 1) If no customer receives preferential treatment, why did one, and only one, avatar, receive special patterned paint last spring? The only other avatar who wears patterned paint created the effect herself, using the paint patch, some five months after the first avatar received her special paint job. Why did two other avatars receive special "Oil of Okay" paint in the spring, which was unavailable to other avatars until Paint Amnesty Day? 2) The Econo-Lion has no issues with Randy Farmer, but his wife's specs are *not* green like those received by the favatars. Did Uni mean that Randy Farmer's wife's spectacles breed in the dark? Strange things do happen in Kymer, but breeding spectacles stretches imagination until it screams for mercy. 3) If the whips couldn't be retrieved by the server, why couldn't they be put in a vendo so that all avatars who wanted them could obtain them? According to Oracle Teresias at the previous conference, there are unused vendos in the Oracle workroom. There is unused space in the VMart. The artwork and the code existed. Why wasn't this inequity rectified? 4) I have been in Kymer since mid-December, and have participated in numerous events and contests. In all that time, I have never known spectacles, pipes, cigars, patterned paint, or gold or pink fireplaces to have been distributed as prizes. Of all these items, only the spectacles would be suitable for use as a prize. A gold or pink fireplace does one no good unless one has a turf that consists of at least two rooms. Some women might be interested in pipes and cigars, they would certainly be in the extreme minority, and many prize winners are women. The issue of prizes, then, is irrelevant to the favatars' goodies. There are only three conclusions that can be drawn: 1) Either Uni is appallingly ignorant about what goes on inworld; 2) Uni was negligent in her response; 3) Uni was deliberately misleading the customer who asked the question and the customers in the audience. I have drawn my own conclusions; you can draw your own. Tantalizing Tidbits ------------------------- One of Kymer's more famous traders and retailers, L'il kt, has branched out into the auction business. Her auction has an interesting feature: the bidders request the items to be sold at auction from kt's burgeoning retail store. This auction is held on Sundays at 3 p.m. WAT. CHECK IT OUT! Jal was going through Withdrawals from not hosting Boxerama, due to last weeks cancellation due to our vacation. He could not wait for 6:00 P.M. WAT, for the start of the games (A real kid in a Candyshop!) I think he was happiest of all though that some of his great prizes were won this week! Tuesday's games were based on a mix of WA Avatar Names, WA Locales, Glued Items, and Vendo Items. These were given as word scrambles, with the object of the games being the first to unscramble the puzzle and type it in ESP mode to Jal, wins! What A Game! The new system, (which we all voted on) seems to be working out great! People really seem to like the 11 th puzzle option! This option allows two winners from the previous puzzles to have a 2 nd pick at a box if they do not like the prize in the first box! This week on Tuesday October 1, 1996 6:00 P.M. WAT we are again going to have the WA scramble Mix! This is the same as last week, so be ready! We have some great prizes for everyone to win, and we hope you will all attend! Have a Great Week! {!} Game Report from Megret's Madhouse: Trivia CHALLENGE! {!} By Megret, SRK This week, the things I am being asked most often is, "how is the tournament going to work, and why are you starting the accumulation of points so early." The "tournament" will consist of four rounds, with the winner from each of the first three rounds going on the to finals. The contestants will be chosen as follows: the top 2 total point accumulations, then the top two point accumulations (or more, if there are ties) from EACH individual game. In other words, two people will be chosen on ALL THEIR points, and then two *more* from each individual game's total points. I'll group the players during the tournament, so, for example, the top three total scores are in one group, while the lowest total scores are in another group... However it works so we have three rounds of approximately equal ability, and one player from each round then moves to the final round. Why did I start so early.... I cannot tell a lie -- the battery in my watch went dead, and I had no idea what month it was. Besides that , it takes the average player 2 games to reach their first "platoe" and then they get better from there much more slowly.... I wanted all newcomers to CHALLENGE to have at least *some* chance of getting into the finals. We met some old friends, with a special Thank you to Pollewop, who treated Jal to a game of Bingo. We were expecting a very quiet game, however, when we clicked on the ghost cloud, the first time we found 58 ghosts! We thought, " Wow, What the Heck is Going on? How come there is so many ghosts?" By the time Sunray StarRae was finished taking the Bets and having the registrations entered, Sunray StarRae had a record breaking "90 Players"! Congratulations Star! Sunray StarRae was an amazing hostess, who handled the situation with great Patience and a great sense of humor. This hostess had to have the registrations come in, in three waves! A-D, E-L, M-Z, and after all these she then had to register all the late comers, Amazingly she did not even crash! With the game being blackout, with a Jackpot game of the inside square, we began our amazing adventure in Bingo! The Jackpot round went first to Sunray Mariah, who won a great pot at 2,000T's. Congrats Mariah! We continued on to finish the game of blackout! First and Second places were called on the Same Number! Cinnamon Girl was the quickest call in and became the winner of 1 st place, with Lizzy Deliveries, Inc., coming in a close 2 nd place! Cinnamon Girl was the winner of a fantastic pot of 12,000 T's! Congratulations Cinnamon! Lizzy Deliveries, Inc. the second place winner also won an amazing pot of 6,000 T's. Congrats Lizzy! Of all the people who deserve a Congratulations for this game, I think the Hostess Sunray StarRae and her helper PD, should have the Greatest Congratulations, on a job Well-Done! {!} WARaffle Anniversary Party {!} By Sweet Suz This was an event to remember! Congratulations to all those who are involved as a WARaffle agent! Happy Anniversary! There was so much going on Saturday September 28, 1996 that we can not give you all the information and winners, however we can give you some of the winners as we saw them! The games started at 2:00 P.M. WAT with Trivia! Acolyte Moria, Acolyte Electra and Angelika were the hosts of this game! We had a lot of fun with most of the answers being based on WA activities and facts! We all had a great time trying to remember costs of items, names of Oracles we never truly met ( still can not figure out Oracle Esmeralda! ) The winners of the Fantastic prizes were as follows: 1 st Place Sunray Launce Engraved Green Space Chest 2 nd Place @ Dark Sun @, Duckolyte Wing Engraved Certificate 3 rd Place Utopia Engraved Certificate The next game we played was in the same location and it was MultiTrivia with Acolyte Michael and Acolyte Nicci! This was a fast paced and difficult Trivia game and had many ties at the end of the game. With ten questions three avatars were tied at 9 points each! WTG Necrolyte Xian, @ Dark Sun @, Duckolyte Wing and Sunday! The winners were put into a raffle and the way there name was drawn was the prize that they won! Necrolyte Xian 1 st place Engraved Green Space Chest @ Dark Sun @, Duckolyte Wing 2 nd place Engraved Certificate Sunday 3 rd place Engraved Certificate What made this game so unique was that everyone who played the game received 10 tokens for each correct answer they had during the game! So in actuality we were all winners of a sort! Thanks very much for a great two games! Necrolyte Sky Tower, that cute pink piggy that we all Love held some great games of Free Kymer! Each round was 1 line, or a blackout or center square. Each round someone could go down and choose a gift which he had laid out on the ground! He did a great job and we all had a good time! Our friendly pink piggy wore a frown for a little while, due to the fact that during a crash which he was having a thief came in and stole a Green Space Chest! It seems that some people just don't have the respect for others! This was a free game of Kymer and not something that people had to put out a lot of tokens to buy! It was going to be Free! Acolyte Lynx came through and after the WARaffle decided that a Green Space Chest would go out for Kymer and one game was held. A Green Space Chest was the Prize! No Thief was going to ruin our day! Congratulations to all the Winners! The WARaffle was held at the same time as usual, with all the agents there to hand out the prizes and wish congratulations to all the winners! Here is the list of the Door Prize Winners! Jet Duke Michele Elektronaut Sunray Pat W Sir Alexander Sassy Wild Cat Eliphas Lord XOPL-Patchlord Dennis S Bitsy Sweet Suz (hey thats Me!) WTG Third round action was Fast, with Jal 2 , Sir Alexander and Sunray Pat W competing for the chance to get in the Championship round! To make an appointment for a specific time, either weekends any time or weeknights after 5 p.m. WAT, send me an e-mail with possible times and we will arrange it. Submissions - {!} Each issue of ESP! requires a great deal of time to prepare. Once the Editor has received everything for an issue, eight to ten hours of actual work hours later, the issue is ready for uploading by mid-afternoon Sunday. Writers can help reduce some of this time by following these tips. 1. ESP! does not place article titles in all caps; we initial cap the main words of an article title. Most of our writers submit their articles with their titles in all caps; to clean this up, the Editor must change it to lower case and then initial cap the main words. Writers: help us save a little time by typing your titles in initial caps only (main words: not words like "a", "the" when used within the title, "by", etc.) Along these lines, it is not necessary to include the {!} - before and after your article title or try to center it. In the conversion to ASCII text for retrieval into WordPerfect 5.1, the attempt to center the title becomes blank spaces which need to be deleted because the title is not really centered. Type your title flush left and your byline underneath it. The Editor will run her macro which will center the title, add the {!} - and - {!}, move to the next line and center the byline. 2. ESP! doublespaces between paragraphs and does not use tabbed indents for the main body of the article. These are flush left. Lists within an article may be indented or tabbed. Articles submitted that are single spaced between paragraphs and tabbed in one tab position at the beginning of the next paragraph require major cleanup. Once saved as ASCII text, these tabs become spaces which must be manually removed. Because some of the gaming reports include tabbed lists of winners and items won (which in ASCII become spaces), a global search and replace of spaces cannot be done. If this is done, then the gaming reports must be totally reformatted, replacing all the spaces with tabs or putting the deleted spaces back in for the lists to line up properly. 3. If you have subheadings within your article, do not type them all in upper case. Type them in initial caps and underscore them with the dashes like this: Subheading ---------- [Begin text here] 4. Use the ellipsis (three periods) correctly. The proper use of the ellipsis is [word][space]...[space][word]. The ellipsis is used between a sentence and a phrase, not between two full sentences, and the periods within the ellipsis do not have spaces in between. In quotes from other sources, the ellipsis is also used to designate that text has been removed. Too often, writers pepper their articles with multiple periods in between sentences.......Like this. A very careful search and replace must be done because we do not want to remove a period where one properly belongs. 5. Event Listings: hosts submitting events are asked to follow this format so we can more easily conform it to our schedule format: Day and Date Time Name of Event (not in all caps; initial capped) Location (if in a turf, indicate Turf Address: [name]) Host's Name Description of event (keep to a maximum of 100 words) Submitting a listing that looks like this: EVENT NAME, MONDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY TIME DESCRIPTION HOST'S NAME requires us to retype this to conform to our Event Schedule format. Please help us save some time by submitting it as indicated above. We will put in the leader dots on the second line between the location and the host's name. 6. Above all, proofread your article before submitting it. A spellcheck is run on all articles but words like "here" and "hear" will not be caught because they are both legitimate words. So make sure your words are spelled correctly. Every article submitted is read carefully and whatever grammatical, spelling and other changes necessary are made; but making these corrections can get very time consuming and delays the production of ESP! Think of these as Writers' Guidelines for ESP! They're not cast in stone and we won't reject a submission because it doesn't conform to our guidelines. ESP! needs all the original articles it can get! But anything our writers can do to help us spend less time in the actual production of ESP! to gives us *more* time to search for authors to provide us with original stories and other articles would be *greatly* appreciated! Thank you! !}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}
