Today is a very special day at ESP! It's the first for judging the best "How I Arrived in Kymer" story for the writing competition. Did you know that the ESP! Kymer Horoscope is available from the Newsstand library right now and that it also displays our new official logo for the first time? Have you checked out the latest WorldsAway related web sites yet? Heard about the chain letter deluge? Realized that today sees the return of the most current and well presented schedule for Kymer, in this very issue? It seems that *onanistic* and *denoument* are the hot words in the forum. Now that's what I call hot news! Today, we return the schedule and release the horoscope for Kymer. With the securing of exclusive material for ESP! from *two* of the largest groups in Kymer some weeks ago, and the introduction of a weekly Duckolyte game sponsored by ESP!, we know you will agree that times are 'a changing; ESP! is now the largest publication in WorldsAway. We are working hard behind the scenes to make an impact in the lives of all Kymerians, and our aim is to reflect this in the downloads; from there, we can build to better places. When I say *we*, I mean all of us. ESP! is the product of many avatars. All helping to tell the news, write fresh and exclusive features, and provide a source publication that gets the most out of WorldsAway. Over the coming weeks, we'll be bringing you up to date with all that's going on at ESP! as well as all that's happening in Kymer. We've brought the group list up to date, soon we'll be announcing the competition winners and for the future we plan to bring you much more. Why not write something yourself and share your views with everyone else? Last week I credited the Duckolytes as probably the most organized group in Kymer. A part of their restructuring has been to organize their presence on the web. They fused four home pages into one containing all the important information about themselves at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/adjimi -- And soon they plan to maintain an improved web site. My guess is that hyperlinks could soon be discussed between them and the Magnolytes. The Magnolyte page is at http://www.europeans.com/magnolytes -- And they are currently discussing a possible link with Roga Mae & Ali Quid working towards a free WorldsAway forum on the internet. It is now possible to rent your own page from the Magnolytes for 500T per month. For sure, it is all brewing on the net, and not just between groups but between worlds, all the virtual worlds you can think of are surfable from one web site at http://www.communities.com/habitat.html -- And while we're on this subject, I tried to register for the latest Realm version recently and couldn't register as Dread, that name was already in use and so was my other avey - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Who's out to get me! Did anyone download that New Head file I mentioned last week? Good eh! Well I found another interesting file, the WorldsAway News Calendar, or wanc.txt. Maybe they could translate a German version for our readers? Hmmm ... I wonder what the file name would turn out to be? Think about it, and write me if you don't get it; I need the attention he he. The best graphic is at the link to the magic shop from the Magnolyte page. Well! Whose been sending all these chain letters then? Was it you? I received three types, about 18 mails all together. I forwarded 10 the last time round and got into all sorts of trouble. One or two are fine I guess, but 18, gimme a break! Besides, on the internet, it is considered rude to send a chain letter. Should you receive one, send it to GoldenWarrior - GK&SrK, he says he wants to break the chain so let's help him. Right! So read the rest of your copy of ESP! Within its pages are no less than three groups introducing themselves to you, and a wealth of other stuff. Start banging away on your bongos, then rush out and buy yourself a fire extinguisher because Kymer is getting hot. -- Keep smiling. Editor Brynne's note: He did it so well that I decided to give him my spot! My, won't he be surprised! Now I must get to reading all our competition entries and writing my own story that he's been after me for. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Feature Stories ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} - Writing Competition: How I arrived in Kymer - {!} Progress Report By Dread Five weeks ago we announced our intention to hold a writing compe- tition and the following week Dread's Arrival in Kymer was published as a rough example of the sort of stories we were looking for and officially opened the competition. Yesterday was the closing date for receipt of entries and next week we will publish Brynne's Arrival in Kymer as the official close of the competition. An emphasis was placed on writing an interesting and entertaining story rather than a grammatically correct and perfectly written manuscript. We felt this would open the competition up to more Kymerians. We've received 22 entries and the 15 winners will be announced next week. The winning entry will be published next week and the runners up thereafter. Thanks to all who took part for your hard work, we know how much you enjoyed writing your stories and how much effort went into them. Next week we'll find out who's going to be walking proudly around town with a pencil head. "Oh, hi, Chosen One. What an honor to meet you. I've heard so much about you!" "Oh yeah. Well. It's all true, and I'm proud of every word." "Yes, I'm sure you are. What makes you think I can fix your problem?" "Fix?" See Oh sputtered angrily. "I never said you could fix anything. You're one of those goody-goodies who thinks he can walk around and fix people. Well I know better. The darkness rules, and I don't like your kind." "Oh come on now, See Oh. Everyone has needs. That's what keeps us all moving. Take you for example. You need to convince the world that you are the Chosen One. You can't rest until everyone knows." "Well I am the Chosen One," See Oh said defiantly. "I absolutely agree with you. But not the way you think. I believe everyone is chosen. We're all special." "Who cares what you believe?" "You are so quick to discount the light that I want to share, pretending that your message is the only message of value. You are so thirsty to have others agree with your darkness. This thirst is your need, just as bold and plain as any need of the neediest." "No! It is not my need! It is the truth. I know the darkness rules, and by binding myself to the darkness, I rule." "By your binding, you shall have the darkness! Because the darkness only rules those who cleave to it. But imagination works both ways, and for those who choose to see light, the light dispels the darkness." "I know my power, and in my dream, you are writhing in the agony of the fires of my hatred." "In my dream, you are lifted and surrounded by the light of the sun. Both our dreams are true, but one confines the dreamer to dimness and hopelessness, while the other brings a world filled with possibilities of friendship and joy." See Oh's skull face disappeared in a cloud of peevishness, and Phred was left alone with his thoughts. "That was a pleasant afternoon encounter," he murmured ironically. "I think I'd better talk about this with someone, just to clear my thoughts." No sooner had he spoken than Hannah walked by. "Hi Phred. You look a bit pale." "Hannah! What a pleasant surprise. So nice to see you. Yes, I was chatting with See Oh and I got a bit wound up." "Darn. It make me crazy that there are people even here in Dreamscape that there are people who are so quick to hurt others. How can we enjoy each other and really try to share our love with such people?" "These are ancient problems, Hannah. Perhaps the Tarot can give us some insight." Phred drew out his Tarot cards, calmly shuffled the deck, selected eleven cards at random, and carefully placed them face up on the table. "Why are you placing the cards in that pattern?" Hannah asked. "The layout forms an upside-down letter-T." Phred replied, "When you place the cards in a reading, the position helps you interpret the cards in a fuller way. In this particular layout, for example, the group of three cards on the lower left elaborates on the question you are asking. The three cards on the lower right elaborate on the personal identification of the person who is the subject of the reading. The top group of five cards is the final outcome. Within each one of these groups there is also a particular meaning for each location." "I see," Hannah said. "In order to go deeper into the meaning of the reading you have to learn to interpret the way each card falls into a particular location. This is fun. Well. What do you think?" After discussing the first eight cards in the reading, Phred came to the ninth card. "This position is called the final outcome. It's the Page of Swords card." "Isn't that interesting. Almost half of the cards in the reading are in the Sword suit," Hannah observed. "That doesn't surprise me," Phred said. "The swords cut through energy, and we all know how this abuse of power in Dreamscape is cutting through all kinds of feelings. Let's look more closely at the Page of Swords. He is a young man holding a powerful sword, almost in a dance, as if he's on the prowl." "Is the Tarot saying that See Oh looks like that young Page in the picture?" "Oh no," Phred laughed. "I never use the pictures as a physical image of the person. For example, the Page's youthful appearance doesn't mean his physical age. It indicates young attitudes and emotions. You know youth is a two sided coin. On the one side we think of the innocence of youth. But when combined with the sword, we are reminded that a youthful mind doesn't always grasp the big picture. Without a broader vision, too much power is dangerous." "How does that insight help us deal with this situation," Hannah asked. "By itself it's only one piece of the story. We can get more insight by looking at both of the adjacent cards. One insight card is the Queen of Swords, sitting on a throne, holding an upright sword. She has power, but controls it with mature, feminine wisdom. She's a good one to cut through the Page's irresponsibility." "The Queen of Swords might almost be called the "Tough Love" card," Hannah mused. "Yes, that's a good way to put it," Phred agreed. "Firmness but with love. And again, the female image in the card doesn't necessarily mean a female person. It calls to mind the qualities of sensitive wisdom and nurturing. The Tarot is old fashioned in that way, regarding male qualities as more action oriented, and female qualities more creative and internal." "Yes," Hannah said. "But I like the strong solid impression of the Queen with a Sword. She doesn't look very helpless to me." "Me either," Phred said. "The other insight card is the Sun card. Look at that innocent child reaching up in open embrace of the Sun, drinking in the Light. Innocence works on an entirely different level than control over others. Through innocence we transcend individual situations. Instead of looking for control we simply bask in the light." "So the final outcome shows immature, irresponsible use of power. Where appropriate the antidote can be firmness. But when we look at the joy and innocence of the child in the Sun card, it reminds me that joyful innocence can be the best medicine. All avatars are struggling to find love. Some think they can find it down the dark road of pushing their will on others. When they get tired of the empty fulfillment and false promises of that road, they will be helped by our example of innocence. Innocence is the most joyful alternative to control, for those who are ready to see it." "I'm not sure I see where to draw the balance between tough love and total innocence," Hannah sighed. "That's a huge question. How do you turn against someone's negative behaviour, without turning off or turning away from that avatar? I wish I had an easy answer. All I've ever been able to do is pray for wisdom and search for insight. But we're lucky here in Dreamscape. The power of the imagination is so strong that if we point ourselves upwards towards the light, like the child in the Sun card, we are able to keep our innocence and share it with others." {!} - Worlds Apart in Worlds Away? - {!} By Usagi I came across a posting in the "Forum Flames" which compared parti- cipation in WA to an addiction. It started me thinking, and this article contains some of the thoughts that resulted. It seems to me that WA participants often operate out of two, very different, mind-sets, and that there is some degree of misunderstanding arising as a result. On the one hand, we have the "objective reality" school. In this mind-set, WA is a virtual environment, which allows the person at the keyboard to communicate with other people at other keyboards. There is a game play element, so that tokens can be collected and spent, avatars can be sprayed, re-upholstered and re-named, and pranks can be practiced if desired. The avatar is a playing piece in the game. A lot of fun can be had, but at the end of the day, it isn't real. Spending an hour in WA is just one enjoyable way of spending that hour; lots of RW pursuits would give just as much fun - and the same kind of fun. "Objective" WA members really cannot understand why someone should get upset because they've lost a bunch of pixels, or can't get inworld because of a server crash; they wonder whether these "addicts" have a life outside Kymer. Then we have the "subjective reality" school. For them, during the time they're logged on, they are immersed in the experience of WA. Their avatar is someone other than their everyday persona. The avatars with whom their own avatar interacts are treated as individuals in their own right, and the virtual possessions which the avatar acquires are endowed with real value. They are genuinely saddened or outraged when they are tricked by another avatar, or a crash costs their avatar their hard-earned goods and chattels. When they can't get inworld, they feel as if they've had to miss an eagerly-awaited appointment with a close friend. How can the "get-a-life" merchants not understand that the emotions generated inworld are just as real as RW feelings? It's a measure of the depth of the WA environment that it can cater for both mind-sets. Clearly it does, because both "objective" and "subjective" members keep coming back for more. Nonetheless, there is sometimes friction because of these widely different outlooks. I wonder if we can get any insight into the underlying differences behind this divergence of perspective. One factor that might be involved is sometimes referred to as the "totality of the self". Some people are satisfied that everyday life offers opportunities to express and experience every aspect of their personality. They can be completely themselves, and do not feel the need to keep any facet of their character hidden. Such people are likely to be "objective" in WA; their avatar will never be anything other than an extension of their everyday persona, and inworld inter- action will have no different quality from RW communication. Con- versely, other people will have an awareness of unexpressed poten- tials; it is all too easy to allow ourselves to become only what others expect us to be, and neglect much of who we are and what we could be. WA can provide an opportunity to explore such characteris- tics, through an avatar's persona, in a safe environment. The energy which is usually devoted to keeping these potentials hidden can be released, and the "totality of the self" is enhanced by experiencing this release. The avatar becomes an entity other than the everyday persona, but one just as subjectively real, and capable of producing real emotional involvement. Which school is right? Is WA "real" or not? These tend to be the questions which arise in debate between the two sides; and usually, no agreement is reached. I wonder if a more useful question might not be "which outlook is more useful?" It seems to me that both are of value, in differing contexts. For the "objectives", it might be fun, just as a game, to recall a time when you became totally involved in something "unreal". Perhaps the movie where you cried when the hero died, or the story you heard where you actually see the images or hear the sounds described by the speaker. Remember how much fun that was? And perhaps, if you let your mind wander for a few moments, you might come across some part of yourself that you just don't get to play with very often. Haven't told many jokes recently? Got out of the habit of idle conversation that goes nowhere, but have a whale of a time on the way? Been really silly lately? I'm sure you can find some dusty corner somewhere with a half-remembered You in it. Why not bring it out into the daylight, and try it on again - and where better than in the "virtual unreality" of Kymer? We don't play enough, for the most part. Why let kids have all the fun? The subjectives are, most of time, doing just fine on the fun front. Where the fun breaks down, though, is when the unpleasantness rears its head on the streets of Kymer. And a degree of objectivity could help a lot in avoiding unpleasantness. First up, as identifiable groups form inworld, there can be a tendency to stereotype individual avatars because of their affiliations. Next time you find yourself making assumptions about an avatar because they're a Sunray/ HeadHunter/Duckolyte ... (fill in the gaps) ... take a step outside your own avatar (just for a moment) and picture the person at the keyboard; remember that they're just another person, trying some new behaviour on for size. They don't know YOU, and they certainly aren't out to hurt you. The same principle applies to avatars who have gotten a reputation for past behaviour; the person at the keyboard may have decided that the experiment didn't work, and is trying something new. Give them a chance - avatars really can change overnight. Secondly, when bad things happen, or someone seems to be giving you a bad time, take that same sideways step and remember - WA is limited in its scope for communication; what you read may not be what the writer intended you to understand. They may even be reacting to their misunderstanding of what you wrote. Keep the nature of the medium in mind, and allow more benefit of doubt. I personally feel that choice is a powerful commodity, and I think that if we study how our opposite numbers in the objective/subjective camps think and feel, we might just be able to add some new options to our menus. And if that makes Kymer even more fun to visit, well, there's the icing on the cake. If you've made it this far, thanks for your attention. I'll welcome your opinions on the matter - feel free to catch me inworld and get your revenge. {!} - The Witching Hour - {!} By Witchy The development of magical abilities is the result of the spiritual- ization of the human soul. The closer we grow to our creator, the greater are our abilities and perceptions of the divine reality. It is this divine reality that is the true reality our physical universe imperfectly reflects. Those who have refined their senses by harmonizing them with the divine reality can see interconnections between otherwise unrelated things. The ability to sense this interconnection forms the basis for all magical operations. Those who are true adepts have developed their moral and ethical senses along with their magical powers. They do not display their abilities randomly or in a negative manner. Because true priests or priestesses have achieved a harmony with the divine reality of the creator, they are able to demonstrate their dominion over creation. Being able to demonstrate this dominion is what separates the true priest or priestesses from the false. True magic has a physical result on the earth. It does not end in dreams, delusions, and self-deception. True magic is a natural ability that is developed as a result of spiritual growth. It is never the product of a search for power or privilege. It is wise to keep this in mind. Asafetida --------- Used in Indian culinary feasts, curries, and so forth it is called "the food of the gods." To those of us who dislike the smell, it is called "Devil's Dung." Asafetida is a pastry, granular, and odorous compound. Asafetida is burned as an incense in rites of negative magic. Com- pounded with sulfur it is said to summon the spirits of hell. It has the property of attracting negative and malicious spiritual entities. Over the years it has become a favorite of the Christian Satanists, who seem to think that it does what it promises. This is an example of an incense which can get one into a good deal of trouble, and is best avoided. Those who are wise will avoid it; those who are not can use it to harm themselves. Basil ----- In the Middle Ages, basil was classed as an herb of Mars. It was said that if basil were crushed it would breed scorpions. At the same time, it was considered to be a divine herb, and supposedly it brought good fortune to the place where it was kept. It is certainly one of the most useful herbs in herbal magic. Basil is used as a spray or a sprinkle to clear or lighten the place where it is placed. It is used in the corners of sick rooms, as a floor wash, and as a house sprinkle. A teaspoon of basil added to a bottle of ethyl rubbing alcohol will make an excellent neck and shoulder rub for the relief of tension caused by the working day. Used in a bath, a tea made of a teaspoon of basil steeped in a cup of boiling water has a protective and cleansing influence. It is particularly useful to clean off the feelings left by contact with those who are negative or controlling. The tobacco from a cigarette and as much basil, burned on charcoal, will provide a simple incense which will drive away negative influ- ences from the place where it is burned. In all cases, basil is protective of the place where it is used. Broom Tops or Broom Herb ------------------------ Broom herb is very useful as a washing compound. It may be used to clear away any astral detritus from floors, walls, and furniture. A cup or two of broom tea per bucket is all that is required. The mop or scrub sponge should be rinsed in another bucket to get the best cleansing effect. Cool broom tea can be prayed over to make a protective sprinkle for the home. It is not particularly effective as a protection, and does much better in cleansing. Loose broom herb, placed in the corners of a room, can keep the astral environment of the room clean. The herb should be changed every week or so, as it has little staying power. Fresh broom herb is best for this use. Chestnut -------- Chestnut trees belong to Jupiter. As all nuts or fruits of plants relate to Jupiter, the nuts of the chestnut tree have a very strong power of Jupiter. They may be used (raw, not roasted) in a charm bag to add the virtue of Jupiter, and they expand any quality which the charm bag already has. The nuts may be used in a bath to gain the virtue of Jupiter, for example, in assisting a woman to become pregnant. Five nuts (five being the usual number of Jupiter) should be used in the bath. Chestnuts are a poor choice for the usual novice desire of drawing money, as the Jupiter vibration will usually encourage the individual to spend money rather than to acquire it. One nut, or a necklace of them, may be prepared as a charm for money, however. The prayer for a charm that includes chestnut should limit the time element involved, or the prayer will be too general to be of real effect. It can also be prepared as a charm to place under the chair in the consultation room, to encourage clients to be generous, a practice that may fall into the realm of black magic! Chewing John ------------ Chewing John is so called because of its use as a chewing root. It can be chewed when you seek good fortune, or for its spicy taste. It adds a nice flavor to rice. Chewing John is often made into a good luck charm, being prayed over and carried on your person or in a charm bag. The root finds its best use as a money drawing charm. It is placed in a chamois skin charm bag with three silver coins, usually dimes. The root will receive the influence of the prayer prayed over it very well, and it seems to act to open up opportunities for money to come. It can be used to make up an attractive charm, but as silver is more expensive now it is not always an easy charm to make. The powder is one of the best casting powders (or "persuasion" or "compelling" powders) there is for sex. It should be prayed over and touched to the body of the person you desire to have sex with. It is not a "love powder," it is strictly a "sex" powder. Cinquefoil ---------- Cinquefoil (also known as Five Finger Grass) is used as an ingredient in many charm bags, or as a charm by itself. If has the ability to make you speak eloquently, to the best of your ability. It acts to stimulate the memory and allow words to flow. A bath for this purpose is useful, for example, just before an employment interview. A tea- spoon of cinquefoil to a cup of boiling water will make the solution for the bath. Cinquefoil can also be used to make people speak their minds, not always the wisest thing to do. The name of the individual who is to speak should be written on a piece of paper, and cinquefoil herb placed over it. The paper is then prayed over for the effect desired. This is an excellent way to get a witness to testify in court, for he or she usually says more than necessary and in some cases it is difficult to get the witness to shut up. Devil's Shoestrings ------------------- Devil's shoestrings is an aptly named herb, as anyone who has tried to clear it from a garden patch will testify. It is famed for persis- tence, and its ability to add a "staying quality" to whatever it is used in. The herb itself will take a strong charge from the prayer made over it, and it will act with the same persistence that it displays in the garden. The most famous spell which uses this herb is the "compelling spell," which is used to gain agreement from another person. It is often used by people who have to negotiate, and it has an excellent reputation for success. The spell must be made for the person who is going to use it, and prayed over in that person's name. Pieces of devil's shoestrings are cut about one and a half to two inches long, and placed into a wide mouthed bottle. Several lumps of camphor are added, and the bottle is filled with bourbon whiskey. The filled bottle is then prayed over in the name of the person who is to use it. The bottle is then capped and stored in a dark place. To use the spell, a piece of the root is taken from the bottle and rubbed between the hands. The root is then returned to the bottle, and the person using the spell simple shakes hands with the person he or she wishes to influence. Hazelnut -------- The hazelnut is the Celtic nut of wisdom. It can be used by people who desire mental stability, calm, or insight into difficulties. A bath made with nine hazelnuts can assist in cleaning the mental body as well as stimulating the mind. The bath is made by boiling nine hazel- nuts in an iron pot with a quart of water for an hour or so. Once the liquid cools it is added to a tub bath. A necklace made from hazelnuts may be worn to gain the same effect, or to preserve the effect once the mental body has been cleaned. It will take several weeks for the necklace to have the proper effect, and it should be worn almost continuously during this time. Carrying a hazel- nut in your pocket has almost no effect, as the vibration of the hazelnut is not particularly intense. A tea made from nine hazelnuts will assist a business in obtaining customers. The tea is used to mop the cleaned floors of the business place and is made the same way you would make it for a ritual bath. Adding ground hazelnut flour to foods may also assist the mental vibration, particularly if it has been prayed over. Parsley ------- Parsley is a beneficial herb for women. It can be made into a sprinkle which has the effect of calming and protecting the home. In a bath it gives benefit to people's financial problems. For either of the above, make a tea with a teaspoon of dried parsley to a cup of boiling water. Allow the tea to steep until the water reaches room temperature, and either add it to the bath or use it as a house sprinkle or spray. It may also be used as a floorwash if desired. Some people avoid eating parsley, as it is supposed to confer finan- cial benefit if one does not do so. The same is held to be true about pumpkins. This may be a superstition, but if one accepts it, it is as firm a belief as any other. Peace, Love and Soul {!} - TG's Hatemail No. 6 - {!} by Throbbing Gristle HMS Actions and Reactions ... You filled my letterbox!!! Finally ... I got readers letters! And I got a lot of comments inworld. Seems like my last article hit into something. The only thing that I didn't have was sharp critic, but this is even better in my eyes, for it shows me that there is more agreement than I had ex- pected. I will keep watching the newbie scene, and some experiments will surely be made inworld in the next weeks. The German version of my last week's article had an appendix that I could not make in the English version because I already had mailed it to English ESP! It was caused by my friend and editor Zooey, who felt that I judge a bit to hard on the helping groups, so I will add here what I SHOULD already have added last week: I do not condemn Sunrays as Sunrays or whatever (in fact there is just one group in Kymer that is really turning out to be a thorn in my eye, but I will take care of this later ... hehe). I know that most of their work is done with good intention. But I think that those people, who initiate groups or lead groups, should have an open eye on their members, because happenings like the adventures of Queen V that I described in the last issue of ESP!, are definitely not necessary. These are not the actions of the group itself; these are the actions of just some individuals. I apolo- gize if my words did not say this clearly last week. This apology does NOT include the so-called "Empire". The actions of this clan really are a turnoff and nearly intolerable. Their inworld "researches" as a self-declared kymer police, their always present moral attitudes and the regulations that these try to give to others are not acceptable in my eyes, and so I will surely ignore everything coming from this side. Their publication "Thief and Theft" is a nothing but a slander-list that has already made several mistakes. In many countries such a list would be illegal and their attacks against the acolytes are a bad joke under the eye of Morpheus. Each Acolyte I met so far has shown more common sense while treating things in his little finger than all the EMP-blah blah that I heard and read so far. They had a good sensibility for HOW to treat things and people. And the Acolytes were there to help without forcing their help upon me. And what is this empire? Can I judge its intentions by its name? Which traditions in Kymer does it have? I'm glad I am not alone with my views. Here is a letter I got from my last hatemail, which I include with kind permission of the author: --------------- Hi TG! Again, I commend you! LOVED your article! and HOW true!! Although a member of a "helper" organization, I do NOT take it upon myself to prejudge avatars on the basis of how they choose to color their personas. Such value judgements reek of libel, as does that newspaper "theft & thief" where "alleged" thieves names are published weekly. Oh, and if you're innocent, just email us with proof, and we'll remove your name!! That smacks of McCarthyism, if you ask me! Maybe some of them should take a hint from one of the oldest books in the world - the Bible "Judge not, lest ye be judged" And you are right. Too many of these "helper" groups take it upon themselves to inundate newbies with saccharin sweetness, assuming they have no brains, and are unable to read a pop up menu. One of the things I enjoyed as a newbie was exploring the dreamscape myself, and making friends, who helped me make the transition with humor, fun, and a GOOD bit of teasing! ("AAAAAH! NEWBIE!!! whenever I asked a silly question). I'm sure there are other benevolent tasks to be had on the island of Kymer. Maybe scooping up all the field mice, and bopping them on the head? (to coin a phrase from a children's song) Anyway, keep up the good work! I really look forward to your articles every week! BTW, if you don't mind, please let me know when you are usually in world, for I would love to meet the avatar behind the words. (and that name! LOL!) Thanks ;-) 502, Duckolyte Wing (No artificial sweetener here!) --------------- Well, thanks a lot, 502 Duckolyte Wing, a person I've never met so far inworld as you might have seen. I am very pleased to see I was not misunderstood by one of the helpers groups! And I am very pleased to see that I am not writing for my own pleasure only! BUT -haha- I got more letters and here are some more points to add to the discussion, the following lines where sent to me by Maharet: --------------- I just finished the Hatemail. Both Isildur and Maharet are in agree- ment! Last night Nosferatu, myself and some other vampyres were talking about Carmila when suddenly Golden Warrior drops down from the clouds to add his wisdom. Upon his intrusion, the topic turned to the nature of evil. There is evil in WA right now. This evil is not group related (tho I believe like attract like), this evil is the current infection of JUDGEMENT AND LACK OF ACCEPTANCE. I am starting to feel as tho I am in high school with all this policing. I worry about "getting suspended" or having to go the principals office. For heaven's sake ... WA is a fantasy ... its a place to play, explore and have fun. Must we take it so seriously that we create another RW type atmosphere. I want to scream LIGHTEN UP EVERYONE. This is where Aliester Crowley's message comes about. He believed we should leave each other alone. I agree with that. I have no power over another avatar, I barely have power over my own thoughts and actions. Anyway, I am reacting to the events of last night, the increased directions by Acolytes and your wonderful words of wisdom. --------------- Thanks for the flowers, Maharet; they are of the kind that I like, although I fear that if I get more letters like these I might start to feel like the new kymer-prophet; well, why not. Darkwolf Fenrier, surely one of the real goodies in WA, sent me the following lines: --------------- Your ESP! thing, where you was accused of being a thief cause you wear black, it happened to me Tuesday night!!!! "You can't trust these people in black, they are thieves and are evil and don't care what goes on in Kymer so long as they have lots of tokens" Hell I must be the most honest guy in Kymer! But what can you do, simple minds believe simple things I guess. --------------- Argh ... seem like there is a current rising of these events here. Those who are talking the most of a "Lack of Acceptance" definitely seem to be the ones that know what they are talking about, cause it's their own lack very often ... sigh. With few words, Fen has said it all. I finish this with a letter that reached me in German and that I will try to translate here as closely as possible, it was sent to me by Lady Dee-Sukelie: --------------- Wow! Hats off TG! Your features are getting better each time. I laughed myself to death nearly. Somehow it all seemed quite known to me. Here's my comment to it. Well, the *Newbies*, these menaces, I always liked to help and I have given a lot (tokens). Yes, sometimes I nearly obtruded myself upon them, eagerly looking for a title. (I haven't got any up to today.) These hypocritical saints bug me a lot. As I experienced it, I can only say, as soon as these dynamic avatars and eager helpers have received their *Title*, they are no more that much interested in people needing help. Sensibility lost by the most of them then, - unfortunately. There are only few people that are really seriously about helping. These go to the opposite extremes. Well, a theme for eternity. Looking at the Sunrays, they remind me of a sect. Long live love, peace and justice - Amen. Unfortunately only on paper, too. Back to the newbies, God may bless them and teach them a first lesson in behavior and some good manners too. Hardly arrived, the first thing I hear from them, if they should talk at all, is: Hey baby, show me some places where we can have some fun, yeah. This is quite innocent. I really ask myself how these people of limited mind behind those avys manage to use their computers. It's really amazing. Fortunately, not all are like that. Or it was always my luck to draw the *sh*tcard*. The worst ever said to me was: "I wanna **** you in front of your boyfriend" (gasp). Too bad I couldn't show my disconcerted expression in that moment. I had to get rid of that for once. It gave me the rest and meanwhile I start running away if they arrive. And I really can renounce such *titles*. I help if I want to, when I want to and only if nobody neglects good manners regarding politeness. I do not have to stand this impudence any more. Who am I to do so? On the other hand I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to some very nice newbies. One of them even donated me a teddy for leading him around and helping him. This really moved me. Only that it is not the usual case! I do not mean the presents. From such things, again, you get a delight to keep the dream alive, whatever this slogan might mean, I never found out. SO, for the future: Be a bit more kind and ask me if you need any help. From my own side I will not treat you badly anymore and certainly not bomb you with one of those ridiculous macros. Keep it up, TG (you are really for real). Lady Dee-Sukelie --------------- Well, this letter expresses some additional things that I yet did not talk about, and which are certainly more than true. Thank you all!!! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having problems with certain things and procedures in the dreamscape. Keep it up, I will always have an open ear for such things in this column. Also I found out that composing this letterbox meant a lot more work for me than writing my own articles, so I was really late this week and I hope the whole thing will reach Brynne in time so I'll stop it now. Be back next week and I hope you too! All the best gristlegreetings to all of you! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! El nuevo juego del Dreamscape auspiciado por los Hispaniclytes ha tenido una gran acogida y se ha hecho sentir en todos aquellos que lo han jugado. Gracias otra vez por su cooperaci¢n. Esta semana les traigo un escrito de Eugeni Maria de Hostos: Estimulos Estimulos es el nombre generico que he dado a las maximas que voy a copiar. De la fuerza que tengan no es buen indicio el olvido en que las dejo caer; pero como precisamente para tenerlas siempre delante de los ojos exteriores las escribi, confio en que sus efectos seran mas seguros que la enervante predicacion secreta de la facultad de donde emanan. Se economico para ser digno. -Lo infinitamente pequeno es lo infinitamente grande. -Si aceptas el mundo, tienes obligaci¢n de ser hombre de mundo. -La madre de ese hombre es la voluntad. -La voluntad es todo el hombre social. -Si no tienes voluntad, no seras nada, aunque tengas alma de Dios... Es un crimen el no ser hombre util. Estos seis pensamientos son manifestacion de esta idea: Tengo que ser hombre en el mundo y para ello necesito voluntad. Tres de ellos forman un silogismo perfecto, cuya consecuencia me dice terminantemente que la fuerza que busco es la voluntad. Las otras tres maximas son corolarios exactos. La quinta y la sexta expresan compendiosamente mi pensamiento, mis vacilaciones y mis congojas de muchas horas, de muchos dias, de mucho anos de lucha sorda. Cumple con todos tus deberes y gozaras de todos tus derechos. Tu primer deber es ser hombre: no lo cumplas, y llevaras contigo tu muerte. Tu primer derecho es el de gozar de la armonia de tu ser con todo lo que existe. Perfeccionate, es decir, sometete al deber, y la armonia sera. El octavo pensamiento es un estimulo efectivo que al paso que me demuestra (destruido) la habitual de mi pensamiento, me denuncia el vacio que separa mi realidad de mi ideal. La maxima novena manifiesta mi aspiracion y mi conviccion constantes: el hombre doblegando lo rigido, lo aspero, lo malo de si mismo, elevandose, perfeccionandose, ese es mi objetivo. La muerte del sentimiento, de la accion, de la facultad intelectiva, ese es el castigo que me impongo. La maxima novena es formula del porvenir que me auguro, con que sueno si llego al desenvolvimiento completo de mi espiritu. Que perfeccion no es otra cosa que cumplimiento del deber y que este es la armonia, dice la maxima decima, fotografiando mi pensamiento que hace ya mucho tiempo que se ha detenido en ese imponente juicio de la vida humana. Al copiar estas maximas y hallarlas tan conformes con mis creencias, mis sentimientos y mis deseos, me pregunto confundido estas dos cosas: Primera: Como es que quien tan altamente ha colocado su ser moral, camina tan despacio? Segunda: No me equivoque anoche al decir que estos pensamientos eran producto de un acto de imaginacion cuando tan exactos reflectores son de mi alma toda? Se pequeno para ser grande; lento para ser rapido; diligente para serlo todo. -Se ordenado para ser exacto; metodico para gozar del tiempo; economico para ser digno. Estos consejos atacan directamente muchos vicios de mi caracter. Si conocerse es perfeccionarse, no desmayemos, yo puedo ser! -Confiesate tres veces por la noche: una en el diario de tus sentimientos y tus actos; otra, en el resumen de tu trabajo intelectual; otra, en tu libro de cuentas. -Vuelve a ser reservado. En la amonestacion decimatercera, el hombre de dentro se prepara a salir. El precepto decimocuarto es una experiencia pesimista. Un espiritu reflexivo, por tanto concentrado, salio de si, se desbordo, y el desbordamiento le hizo dano. Si logra recogerse, sabra ser franco sin ser duro, sincero sin ser communicativo. -Aprende a hablar, y habla a tiempo. -No pierdas ni un momento en conversaciones, ni con hombres frivolos. De leon te convertiras en jumento, es decir: la palabra oportuna es una potencia; pero no la prodigues porque perderia su fuerza, y de energico te harias debil. -Ama para ser amado. Que quiere decir esto? Que se esta generando el sentimiento hace mucho tiempo; que esta cohibido; que esta enfermo; que pide una expansion; que ya se empieza a ver la necesidad de concedersela. Esto, por un aspecto. Por otro, quiere decir que en la vida de relacion, el medio eficaz de no enredarse en la madeja, es proceder con dulzura y con benevolencia. -Obedece al reloj, y nunca se anidara el tedio en tu corazon. -El tiempo es aire para el trabajo: para el ocio es plomo. -Aqui esta el recuerdo aleccionando. Nadie ha sido mas victima del tedio por ser mas indiferente al presente con que se ha hallado. -Ama la gloria por lo que tiene de estimulante; aborrecela por lo que tiene de enervante. -El unico buen juez es la conciencia; pero el mejor tribunal es el que forma ella con el mundo. -Es decir, pide primero la aprobacion de tu vida al juez interno; pero no desdenes al extremo, porque ambos forman el tribunal de apelacion. Sigo yo estos consejos...? He suspirado. {!} - Oyez - {!} Hispaniclyte Advertisements By Hispaniclyte Boricua Les informo que a finales de Junio-principios de Julio se celebrara la Noche de Ensue¤o (Night of Spanish Dreams). Goldenchild Duckolyte Lindy {!} - Trivia Challenge - {!} The Rules and the Winners By Megret Trivia challenge is the Trivia game which is *not* multiple guess, you actually have to know the answers. It costs nothing to play, since it is sponsored by some very loving, caring, and relatively wealthy people who want to help make Kymer a happier place. (All donations of cash or rare items, gratefully accepted -- the cash goes to the Acolytes who buy rare items at their secret machine. ANY donations are guaranteed to go to the game winners.) BUT -- I have learned some things in the past month that I've been hosting the game. The game begins as soon as Megret's Madhouse opens: the first 5 people to get there get to be on the floor (thus collecting the 60T per hour) for the first set of door prizes and the first 10 questions of the game. I hope that, if you are one of the first five to arrive, you'll talk to the ghosts to find out who is there, and join in the conversation until enough have arrived to begin door prizes. I will probably not *appear* to be present when you arrive, since I am busy sending ESPs to assorted friends, asking them to please not ESP me while I'm hosting, and sending out ESPs to people on my "strangers" list telling them of the impending game. Door prizes are first. To enter the door prize drawing, I ask you to ESP me the word HI, which is then picked up by a program that Wert hands out to his hosts. I punch a button, the program pops out the name of the winner. I *do not* just choose a door prize winner on my own -- I don't have time, it wouldn't be fair, and the door prize program is a wonderful gift to hosts! Then the game begins and you have to register to enter. Again, this is part of the engine that scores the game, and PLEASE do not ESP comments to me during the prelude! When asked, you ESP a $ (that's a capitalized number 4 on your keyboard.) That is the ONLY symbol that will get you entered in the game! If you don't know how to ESP, or have other questions, there is always one person on the floor (the person I hand the door prizes to) who is my designated assistant for the evening. Then we PLAY! And the questions begin. I try to move as fast as possible, though I will not start the countdown until I have at least three right answers. (Or I've given every hint I can think of, and there still aren't three right answers) I will NOT tell you, via ESP or any other method, whether your answer is right or wrong. And *just* asking me, AM I RIGHT?" or sending me ANY other comment, immediately eliminates your answer, and replaces it with the comment, guaranteeing that your answer will be wrong! I *do* give HINTS, if there are less than 3 people with the right answer. Then I score the questions. You see me staring blankly off into space at this point. Sometimes for a long time, sometimes for a very short time. What *I* see is a screen with a list of the LAST thing everyone ESPed to me. But there are no names attached to those answers, no way to know who's point goes with what answer. I manually click on the answers on MY screen, to designate right or wrong. ONLY if it's obvious that English is not someone's native language, yet I strongly suspect they may be right -- ONLY then -- I *may* leave the scoring engine, and be "with" everyone long enough to scroll back and find that particular answer and the person who said it, and ask them to ESP me a definition (that's when I am blankly standing there for so long). Then, with another click of the button on my screen, the correct answer pops up, the scores for that question are given and we move right into the next question. At halftime, there are more door prizes and we run current total scores for everyone. Those with the LOWEST scores get to be ground standers (thus earning the 60T per hour) during the second half. And we play another ten questions. Then, if there is a tie, I change the rules on you -- suddenly timing counts. ONLY those who are tied play the tie breakers. Since being the first one with the correct answer is worth 4 points, this is a very fast way to break any ties. Of course, we've only had a tie twice in the month I've been hosting ... I don't call it Trivia ***Challenge*** for no reason. On the other hand, I do try to make sure most people can at least guess most answers, but sometimes you really have to think! Anyhow, the winners for the past week were: Monday - 7 PM WAT Kira chose the Mystery chest, and won a head painted in rare colors and matching body paint Sligor took the Rosehead, painted with rare paint Golden Knight Mysti3 won the fern and, due to some unusually circumstances, Photon got a fern, coming in fourth. The theory was we could run a bypass cable and create a localised fire alarm that would fool the exit door into thinking there was a fire, which in turn would cause it to open. It's ingenious when you have a computer expert on your team; it makes getting into places much easier in this day and age. We reached the door and Doozer ran the bypass 'cause that's what he's good at, in his words "The Doozer does what the Doozer does," not much on English Doozer, but you get his point. Inside the building we had to deal with VidCams and physical guards, both are easy to deal with. According to Rache's blueprints there is a computer room nearby with access to Mirromar's Matrix Node; from there Rache can access the security cameras and set up a recording loop enabling us to move freely, that just leaves the guards, and that is what RiffRaff is for. You could say he's our liaison officer and he has a personal aid named *Mr.44*. We found the computer room with ease, and with a touch of the old Doozer magic we got inside. RiffRaff and Doozer took up watch and Rache slotted into the Matrix Node. Her expression went blank as strange pulses of light flashed up and down the optical cable that stretched from her temple to the computer station. I clutched my Uzi for comfort and reassurance as I watched over Rache, ready to yank the cable if she got into trouble. I've done this before and it is a necessary job when a Decker enters the matrix, especially with the Black Ice threat (Black Ice is a deadly form of intrusion counter- measures, which kills Decker's by overloading their neural interfaces and frying the brain; a nasty way to go). Rachel jacked out of the computer with a smile on her face, "I've done it, and I've located Yamamotto's office, it's on the 10th floor," she said, then stood up and packed the gear away. "Excellent," I said, "I'm glad that went okay," I couldn't handle losing Rache this early into the run, that would be too much in favour of sods law. And I hate surprises. We left the computer room. The service elevator is the only one that works after hours so we took it, intending to reach the 10th floor, but it stopped on the 6th. It meant only one thing. RiffRaff readied Mr.44 in his hand with the silencer fitted, looking even more wicked than it usually does, and believe me that weapon looks wicked! The doors 'dinged' open as a dull *phut* came from Mr.44 and a guard fell into the elevator. The poor guy never had a chance, but rather him than me. We got to Yamamotto's office on the 10th floor and Doozer, using his magic yet again, placed us inside within a minute. Rache quickly unpacked her deck and jacks into Akira's computer system while RiffRaff and Doozer took positions to watch out for her. It's good to work with professionals. I watched the light beads dance up and down Rache's optic cable, mesmerised by the patterns. Then she reeled back in pain, screaming out. I yanked the cable from her temple with lightening speed, considering the cost of my reflex boosters. Rachel fell forward frothing at the mouth and going into shock. Great Thank you Sod! Just as I laid her down on the floor a hail of bullets ripped through the office, "Damn where did that come from?" Doozer calls, bandaging a bullet wound to his arm "Sentry gun" yells RiffRaff, "Girlie must have set it off when she screwed up." Oh yes by the way RiffRaff has two main hates in the world: women and decker's, so you can see his disgust with Rachel. "Got any tricks RiffRaff" I yelled from behind the desk. "That's a silly question, of course I have," replied RiffRaff taking something from his pack and assembling some sort of large gun that looked like a ray gun from those old sci-fi movies. He raised the gun over the internal wall of the office where the windows once where and pulled the trigger. I heard a low hum, no that's not quite right, I felt a low hum and then heard lots of small electrical explosions coming from the corridors. A mag-pulse gun, boy did RiffRaff come prepared. "It's safe," RiffRaff yelled, "how's the girlie?" I looked at her having muscle spasms, a bit like an epileptic fit, "She looks bad" I replied. "Let me have a look at her," said Doozer coming over, he removed something from a belt pouch and administered it. "We got company" yells RiffRaff. I leave Doozer to see to Rache and take up position with RiffRaff. The elevator doors open and we let loose with a hail of bullets, but there is nothing in the elevator. RiffRaff waves to me to stay there and cover him, I do so he has had much more experience at this than I. He cautiously walked down the corridor towards the elevator, guns in hand as he approached the open lift, nothing in it, he glances up and prods the trap door in the top of the lift car. I hear it clatter open, he steps back, nothing. As a precaution he tosses a white phosphorous grenade up through the trap door, a particularly nasty weapon that burns its victims causing little damage from explosion. As the WP grenade burned it set off the sprinkler system. It begins to rain. Great more rain. "Johnny" I turn round at the sound of hearing a familiar voice, "Hi Rache, you okay?" I ask "A little sore and I got a thick head, but yes, hey thanks for pulling me outta there," with that she gave me a kiss "No probs" I replied before returning the kiss. "Excuse me you love birds but we came here to do a job" RiffRaff yelled as he returned to the office. RiffRaff always yells; it's his way. He used to be a drill sergeant in the Marines. I guess all that yelling at recruits just became part of him. "What options do you have for escape Riff?" I asked the vet, "Frontal assault, there are only six of those guys left and it will be the quickest way, specially as the cops are bound to be on the way." I think about this and look at Rache who is packing her deck away, she sees my concern and produces her sliver-gun, smiles and nods at me. "OK, lets do it!" I yell at RiffRaff a grin on my lips, sod sod's law. We sent the lift down to the ground floor and Doozer placed a surprise in it for anyone down there, and we took the stairs, RiffRaff leading and Doozer covering the rear, planting surprises for anyone who might follow, and also I might add cutting off our retreat. This was a leave by the front door or die trying mission and only $250,000 for our trouble, damn computers and damn sod's law! Half way down the stairs we came under fire. A bullet whistled past my head and buried itself in Doozer's cyber-Leg with a dull clang, the energy from the bullet sprawled Doozer over the stairs. He turned and let rip at a target, his big AK10 erupting with a loud retort, his muzzle flash temporarily blinding me. Damn that was unprofessional, I hope I'm not losing it! RiffRaff not being one to muck about drops a high explosive grenade down between the stairs, the explosion greeted us with the screams of its intended victims. I'm glad RiffRaff is on my side; wouldn't want to get on the bad side of that guy! We race down the stairs now as fast as possible, I can hear the servo's working in Doozer's leg behind me, must have been a bad wound, good job it was his cyber leg. We reach the bottom of the stairs where we see three guards, one of them reaches for a gun ... 'Schhhlicckk' he falls dead clutching his throat. I look at Rache as she lowers her sliver gun, smoke issuing from the barrel. The deadly sliver gun con- sidered by most to be a lady's weapon due to its relative ineffective- ness against body armour fire several 'slivers' of metal per shot, these slivers can shred a man leaving him a bloody mess. "Nice shot Girlie, might be some hope for you yet!" RiffRaff addresses Rache in his usual way. "Why, thank you sugar, I'll take that as a compliment!" retorts Rache, I can see RiffRaff slight at the remark; boy, do those pair know how to grate on each others nerves. RiffRaff moves to the side of the door, we all take up our positions. He flips open the door and we're greeted by incoming fire, now that wasn't expected ... RiffRaff produces yet another toy from his pack and attaches it to Mr .44; he attaches an optical cable from the device to a jack at his own temple, cool, I think, a smart adapter. He sticks the gun round the door and using the direct feed from the device to his brain he opens up, nailing two guards dead. At every corner this guy never ceases to win my admiration at his sheer professionalism. Well that's six guards dead including the one on the 6th, that leaves one more. We rush across the lobby towards the front door, no guard in sight, but then something catches my eye to the left. I spin in time to see the guard rise from behind the security desk toting the biggest shotgun I ever saw. I raise my Uzi and let rip but not before the guard gets a shot off. The shot rips through RiffRaff's chest knocking him at least ten feet backwards in a cloud of blood. My bullets find their mark catching the guard in the stomach and clawing up his body leaving him dead draped over the desk. I rush to check RiffRaff, he's in a bad way. "Damn, I screwed that one up, quick you lot get outta here," he yells. "No way soldier, we ain't leaving you!" I scream back at him. "No leave me, you ain't got time" he coughs up some blood. "Look you've carried us through this mission, now we're going to carry you! So get on yer feet now!" I grab his arm and Doozer gets his other one, we pull him up and supporting him leave the building. We go back to the van, using the alleyways to stay off the streets as police cars fill the area, their sirens cutting through the city noise. I drive whilst Doozer does what he can for RiffRaff. We head for Fast Freddies, a local street doc who looks after runners in distress. We get him checked in, Freddie tells us although it's a serious wound he'll be okay. Great, I don't want to lose a friend as valuable as RiffRaff. Oh well; the mission wasn't a success but we're all alive and the $250,000 will pay for medical bills and still leave us all in pocket. I say goodbye to RiffRaff and Doozer (who was getting his leg repaired) and head back with Rache to my place. We get back home and I shower and get changed, and go back into the living room to see Rachel, looking at a text file on her computer. "what's that you're doing Hon?" I ask not really interested but just to make polite conversation. "Oh it's that information we was after, just checking it out for paydata," she replies. "What! You got it?" I scream in amazement. "Of course, that was my job right?" she replied. "But I thought the Ice fragged you?" I'm on the edge of my seat now, shaking with excitement. "The Ice did frag me, but not until after I got the goodies." I leap up from my seat and give Rachel a huge hug and a lingering kiss. What a girl, a professional until the end. This means we'll get the full wack and RiffRaff will not have been wounded for nothing! I laugh at sod's law, then I laugh out loud, a good long laugh, I just decided I like surprises! Pinkie and the Brains, co-sponsored by the Krewe of Duckolytes and by ESP!, was a rousing, roiling success once again! The event was moved permanently to "Pinkie's Place", where it will be every Thursday, at 6 p.m. WAT. Passion, in the role of game co-host Pinkie, did a superb job, as well as Acolyte Brynne who jumped in to help answer questions. I did my best to keep the event moving along as quickly as possible. The locked chests with valuable prizes were put out in the front room before hand, so everyone could see them. This only added to the excitement. The event started right on time with me announcing the rules at 6:00 p.m. The rules were simple. Pinkie or myself would hide somewhere in Kymer. After we had hidden, the participants would receive a secret phrase that contained a clue to the location of the Hidden. The first Seeker to find the Hidden, unghost, and say the code phrase aloud would win the round. The winner of the round would then select one of the locked prize chests. After the selection was made, I would unlock the chest and reveal the secret surprise within. The winners and rounds this week were as follows Round #1 Pinkie hid in the back vendo that sells black and white head sprays, the clue was: She wore black. Jo-Elle found her. She picked the chest with a Halloween Bag. Round #2 I hid in the starway cafe OB deck, the clue was: Only have Eyes for you. Huck found me. He picked the chest with a Ballerina Ornament. It was alittle embarrasing with other's there when Huck said aloud "I only have eyes for you". After we straightened out that we were not the newest couple in Kymer, the game proceded. Round #3 Passion hid by the vendo in NUYU that sells the Craig_Head which looks like Mike Tyson, the clue was: Mike Tyson Darkhorse found her. He picked the chest with a fern. Round #4 I hid in the v-mart by the yellow body spray machine, the clue was: Yellow Submarine Julianna found me. She picked the chest with a Rose Head painted rare red. Round #5 Passion hid in the temple registry, the clue was: A Good Book. Cybermage1 found her. He picked the chest with Taffy. The monthly finalists who will get to hunt in a very special round at the end of the month are: Unga-Bunga, Leadman, Little Princess, Princess Toadstool, Escaper, Jo-Elle, Huck, Darkhorse, Julianna, and CyberMage1. Winners from the weekly rounds qualify for this race which promises to have a rare and special prize. The participants reported that the game was exciting, fun, and well-organized. As she walked she wondered about the years past. What had she done, what had she given ... and more importantly, what had she got? She could not recall. Was it her fading memory that stole the deeds of a lifetime from her without so much as a backwards glance? She could not recall. She shuffled, gazing at the space in front of her with a vacant look. She shuffled. * * * The young boy ambled along the street, his fresh trainers putting a spring in step ... a spring that he did not feel in his heart. As he walked he wondered about the years to come. What would he do, what would he give and more importantly what would he get? He did not know. What power was it that shaped a life, that kneaded and molded, and pushed and shoved, without so much as a "by your leave"? He did not know. He ambled, gazing at the space in front of him with an absent look. * * * As the two continued on their way ... shuffling ... ambling ... the sun looked down upon them with a curious eye. Could they not see her? Their gazed seemed somehow fixed ... resting peacefully on a plain that was not of this world. They were oblivious to her shining light. So she shone a little brighter. Still they did not look up. How strange. As she watched, they continue on their way ... shuffling and ambling. She frowned, confused by their apparent shun. She was the most beautiful creation in the universe. She brought light to the darkness, warmth to the cold. Quite clearly they not seen her beauty. So she shone a little brighter. * * * Suddenly, in the street below, people began to clasp their hands to their faces. Crying out with anguish and pain. They clawed at the sky, trying to block out the blinding, burning light. The Sun looked down at the screaming people with utter horror. What had she done? Oh what had she done? These people that trusted her, had done so unquestioningly since the dawning of time. What had she done to the people? She began to fade, the cool whispers of night leaking into the sky as she hid her face in her hands to weep. Her bright rays broke from her like icicles in a thaw, leaving behind them shards of light that littered the black sky and twinkled like raindrops on a pond. She began to fade. As she faded, she gazed out into the blackness in front of her with a sorrowful look. * * * Startled from their reverie by the sudden absence of light, the two looked around shocked and afraid. What they saw set their blood running cold. People, people everywhere wailing and moaning. Their hands clasped to their faces, their mouths fixed in a terrified grimace. "I cannot see, I cannot see ... Please, help me!" The helpless cries rang up into the sky, as lost bodies tumbled and fell against each other, grasping desperately for a hand to lead them. The people found each others hands, and stood still, waiting to be led. Waiting to be shown the way home. Nobody moved. The two watched carefully as the chain of people grew, swelling in size with every passing minute. The people looked calmer. Safer, as they clung to each other. Chests still heaving with the panicked breath of a moment ago. * * * The old lady felt a soft hand slip into hers. She looked down to see the trusting face of a young girl, her lips glistening in the sparkling light of the shards in the sky. "Will you lead me? I am blinded, and will surely lose myself without your help". Her face, filled with the innocence of a virgin snowfall, lit up for one brief moment of hope as she squeezed the warm hand in her own. A single tear of compassion rolled steadily down the old woman's cheek. How could she have been so blind? How could she have been so blind? She had asked of herself what lay behind her. As she led the people through the street ... she looked over her shoulder. She had bought light and vision to all the people who lay behind her ... now, and throughout her entire life. * * * The young boy watched the end of the chain of people snake past, like a raindrop running it's random path down a pane of glass. He marveled at the peace of those who walked, clasping tightly to the hand in front, muttering soft words of thanks to that hand that was leading them. As he watched, he noticed an old man, at the end of the human chain, tumbling and stumbling as the whiplash of the snake threw him and flipped him this way and that. He grappled with the hand in front, desperate not to lose it, his empty hand flailing in the darkness behind him. His frail hand, exhausted from the fight to keep hold, finally slipped free from the person in front. He fell to his knees, sobbing into the darkness that surrounded him. "Please, please don't leave me. I am blinded and will surely lose myself without your help." A sudden rush of energy flooded through the young boys body. How could he have been so blind? How could he have been so blind? He had asked of himself what lay before him. He ran to where the old man knelt and scooped him up with one strong arm. The old man clung to his neck as he ran to the end of the chain and slipped a warm hand about the empty one waving aimlessly in the space before him. As he followed the chain, darting off occasionally to collect wandering bodies who had somehow lost their grip, he smiled softly to himself. He had bought light and vision to all the people who lay before him ... now, and as he would for his entire life. * * * The sun peered out from between her cupped hands, amazed at the sight that lay before her. A chain, a mile long at least, was weaving it's way along the shadowy streets below. The people were no longer frightened. They walked, hand in hand, singing blessings to the person in front ... the person who was leading them to salvation. They walked hand in hand whispering thanks to the person behind ... the person who was guarding and protecting them. Each person was a leader, each person was a follower. And each person fulfilled their roles with perfect understanding and great compassion. The Sun smiled softly to herself. She had bought these people together. She. She glowed dimly as she watched the chain. Not yet ready to re-light the skies, but curious to see in greater detail the miracle that was unfolding before her. * * * The two looked up at the brilliant sky, now filled with millions of twinkling lights that danced and twirled like a chorus of ballerinas. A silver disc hung in the heavens, casting a translucent glow over the dark street, lighting their way like a burning candle. They smiled peacefully to themselves, content in their souls for the good they were doing. They looked back at the people with them and walked onwards ... ever walking onwards toward tomorrow. Mythology gives the people something to bond themselves to their land. The Ancient Greeks were deep believers in the Olympian gods and gave themselves a common tie between all their peoples. With the Sunray Creation Myth we hope to have a 'composite myth' that will give the people something more to add to the mystique of this place we call Phantasus. We hope to begin a trend that will bring forth new myths that will give our community tremendous depth in our history and culture. A community is only what the people make it, we have the goal in mind to create its history so the Dreamscape can be truly ours, past, present, and future. The Procedure for entering this contest is simple, just sit down at your computer and create a story about the Knights of Kymer and how they came to be in Kymer, and send the entry to Sunray QTPie for judging. There will be a panel of 7 judges that will do the pre- liminary Judging. The top 3 entries as judged by these 7 will then be judged by Acolyte Sunray Indigo, and Oracle Uni. Below is a sample starting point for the myth, feel free to use this example as the beginning of your story, or create something totally different. Sample Sunray Creation Myth... It was night, and the only light in the skies were the heavenly stars glistening about. Then from among the shadows a new light could be seen emerging from the darkness. It was a great light that shone greater than the sun, and from that light a figure could be seen walking. This figure was incredibly strong, and wise, he walked from the light in such a manner that his wondrously Golden Armor reflected the bright light. This figure continued to walk away from the origin of the light until the light could no longer be seen. He could see because of his armor that still had the light emanating from it. In the distance he saw a harbor, and at the harbor a city. The man decided to go forth. As the man walked through the front gates the light of his armor shone brightly and brought light to this dark town. People looked out of their windows and doors, who was this stranger? What is this light that is shining so brightly?? The answers to these questions are awaiting to be written. Your creativity is waiting to come out in the form of a Sunray Creation Myth. Please continue this story or start with your own beginning and submit the story to Sunray QT Pie at 101460,1112 by June 19th. The winning entry shall receive a very nice rare prize, at the presentations of awards on June 29th. {!} - Entertainment Guild Announces New Game - {!} by Sunray Knight Oliver Knights of Kymer Trivia will be held every Thursday beginning June 20 at 1830 WAT in the turf "Ten Forward." Your new game hosts will be Sunrays Megret and Oliver. There will be 20 questions on a variety of topics. There will be first, second, and third place prizes plus door prizes for all those who are present for the entire game. {!} - Sunray Knights of Kymer Announce VoCC Fund - {!} by Sunray Launce The Sunray Knights of Kymer are pleased to announce the official start-up of the Victims of Crimes and Crashes Fund (VoCC). This fund was started to help those who have lost items they cannot afford to replace due to thieves or system crashes. Although Kymer is mainly full of good people we understand that a situation may arise where a person is taken advantage of, or an uncontrollable server crash can cause an avatar to lose items that they have worked extremely hard to obtain. The purpose of the VoCC is to help these people. The funds to support the VoCC have been raised by the Sunray Auction. Three Sunray Auctions have taken place so far, and many great deals have been 'given away.' So far over 65,000 tokens have been raised thanks to the Sunray Auction, and some very generous donations. If you wish to donate tokens or an rare item or two for sale in the next Sunray Auction please write to Acolyte Sunray Indigo at 75104,3547 or Sunray Render at 103135,2612. Thank you very much for your support! If you have been a victim of a crime or crash and can not afford to replace lost items, please contact either or Acolyte Sunray Indigo at 75104,3547 or Sunray Render at 103135,2612 and if possible try to include saved messages and witnesses. To date the VoCC has helped many avatars regain the trust in others they had previously lost. We have already paid out half of the tokens already in replacements of both Tokens and heads! {!} - Sunray Knights of Kymer Announce WEB PAGES - {!} by SunRay Render Its is with great pride and enjoyment that I announce to you today that the Sunray Knights of Kymer now have their very own Internet Web Site. With only two weeks, and a little help from my friends (sunrays), I put together this homepage on the World Wide Web. Its just an example of how easy it can be for most anyone to build and maintain a site. A little history is in order. It was Memorial Day weekend and I was busy "surfing the net." Some guilds had previously discussed creating a web site so I found the CompuServe Homepage Wizard and starting experimenting. The first week saw daily updates and this last week saw the addition of most of the graphics. While the site is still being developed, it is now open for your review. You can get an idea of the types of things possible with this endeavour. Perhaps each guild would like to have its own web site linked into the Sunray Home page. The possibilities are endless. Meet with your guilds, discuss the opportunities, submit information you want on your page, ask for volunteers to report on your guild happenings, designate a guild photographer, advertise upcoming events; publish rules, procedures, membership rosters, and name changes. These web pages are for you, so take advantage of them. Learn the Internet and how to navigate. After all, the folks at WorldsAway are creating another "world" on the Internet. So you will need to find you way around soon. I would like to thank the following people for their efforts. I would not have been able to create this product without their help. SunRay QTPie for all of the "photographs" of the avatars. Many Thanks QT. Sunray Dreamer for his beautiful title page graphic of the sun and knight. Way To Go !!!! Hierophant, SrK for his contacts and encouragement. Eärendil, Ethereal Elf, as my guiding light in HTML development. His knowledge was integral in our success. And Sunray Fawn for her inspiration and excitement to do the project. Her love of communication and hard work has been an ongoing inspiration. Thanks again to all of the people who contributed material I published on the pages. Excuse me if I have left anyone out, but I really appreciate everyone's efforts. I currently use the Moon Garden Tarot, a beautiful Tarot deck focused on the feminine energies of the moon. Readings can be tailored to your time, questions, interest, and how much you would like to spend (i.e., longer, more complex readings would cost more). I encourage you to give this a try. All readings would be through ESP if privacy is desired and your confidentiality is assured. I hope you'll give it a try and will find Tarot to be fun, informative, and insightful. To make an appointment for a specific time, either weekends any time or weeknights after 5 p.m. WAT, send me an e-mail with possible times and we will arrange it. Otherwise you can approach me in-world for an impromptu reading or to make a time for later. But please don't interrupt if I'm playing a game such as Worlds of Fortune (my favorite) or Kymer or such. If you ESP and I don't answer you right away, that's probably why. :) ====================================================================== Wheels On Fire Limo Service Karynda ====================================================================== I'm Karynda, your worlds away ride (as in wheels) Need to get somewhere *FAST* ? Submissions - {!} Each issue of ESP! requires a great deal of time to prepare. Once the Editor has received everything for an issue, eight to ten hours of actual work hours later, the issue is ready for uploading by mid- afternoon Sunday. Writers can help reduce some of this time by following these tips. 1. ESP! does not place article titles in all caps; we initial cap the main words of an article title. Most of our writers submit their articles with their titles in all caps; to clean this up, the Editor must change it to lower case and then initial cap the main words. Writers: help us save a little time by typing your titles in initial caps only (main words: not words like "a", "the" when used within the title, "by", etc.) Along these lines, it is not necessary to include the {!} - before and after your article title or try to center it. In the conversion to ASCII text for retrieval into WordPerfect 5.1, the attempt to center the title becomes blank spaces which need to be deleted because the title is not really centered. Type your title flush left and your byline underneath it. The Editor will run her macro which will center the title, add the {!} - and - {!}, move to the next line and center the byline. 2. ESP! doublespaces between paragraphs and does not use tabbed indents for the main body of the article. These are flush left. Lists within an article may be indented or tabbed. Articles submitted that are single spaced between paragraphs and tabbed in one tab position at the beginning of the next paragraph require major cleanup. Once saved as ASCII text, these tabs become spaces which must be manually removed. Because some of the gaming reports include tabbed lists of winners and items won (which in ASCII become spaces), a global search and replace of spaces cannot be done. If this is done, then the gaming reports must be totally reformatted, replacing all the spaces with tabs or putting the deleted spaces back in for the lists to line up properly. 3. If you have subheadings within your article, do not type them all in upper case. Type them in initial caps and underscore them with the dashes like this: Subheading ---------- [Begin text here] 4. Use the ellipsis (three periods) correctly. The proper use of the ellipsis is [word][space]...[space][word]. The ellipsis is used between a sentence and a phrase, not between two full sentences, and the periods within the ellipsis do not have spaces in between. In quotes from other sources, the ellipsis is also used to designate that text has been removed. Too often, writers pepper their articles with multiple periods in between sentences.......Like this. A very careful search and replace must be done because we do not want to remove a period where one properly belongs. 5. Event Listings: hosts submitting events are asked to follow this format so we can more easily conform it to our schedule format: Day and Date Time Name of Event (not in all caps; initial capped) Location (if in a turf, indicate Turf Address: [name]) Host's Name Description of event (keep to a maximum of 100 words) Submitting a listing that looks like this: EVENT NAME, MONDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY TIME DESCRIPTION HOST'S NAME requires us to retype this to conform to our Event Schedule format. Please help us save some time by submitting it as indicated above. We will put in the leader dots on the second line between the location and the host's name. 6. Above all, proofread your article before submitting it. A spellcheck is run on all articles but words like "here" and "hear" will not be caught because they are both legitimate words. So make sure your words are spelled correctly. Every article submitted is read carefully and whatever grammatical, spelling and other changes necessary are made; but making these corrections can get very time consuming and delays the production of ESP! Think of these as Writers' Guidelines for ESP! They're not cast in stone and we won't reject a submission because it doesn't conform to our guidelines. ESP! needs all the original articles it can get! But anything our writers can do to help us spend less time in the actual production of ESP! to give us *more* time to search for authors to provide us with original stories and other articles would be *greatly* appreciated! Thank you! !}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}
