Cover Story ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} - Inworld Survey #2: Results! - {!} By Wert P Gumby and Mrs Wert The results of the second inworld survey are in and the answers sure opened some eyes. This survey dealt with information in WorldsAway; where do you go to find out stuff? We had less that two weeks to conduct our survey due to waking world commitments, so only about 100 avatars were able to be queried. Several avatars did take us up on our offer to accept e-mail answers and we thank them very much. The first question asked how people originally learned about the existence of the Dreamscape. Almost one-quarter (24.5%) discovered WA from CompuServe's What's New. The next most popular answer (21.4%) was that they were told by a friend. (Hmm ... considering these huge CIS bills we tend to run up, maybe that "friend" wasn't doing us any favors.) Articles about WorldsAway got the attention of 16.3% of those surveyed, followed closely by magazine advertisements (13.3%). Only 9.2% got attracted to WorldsAway from the Demo CD. Although having personally seen the CD, I wonder how many people left quickly after seeing that the actual program is nowhere near as nice as the demo. Just a thought. The most surprising answers of all were the 15.3% who picked "Other". Several people wandered into the forum and got hooked. Others claimed that they helped beta test and were introduced that way. A few worked for CompuServe and discovered WA through work. The best answer we received, however, was from one person who claimed that in a fit of frustration on the computer, they typed "GO AWAY" ... and the rest was history. Okay, so now that you're here, how do you spend most of your time in-world? That was the second question of the survey. Almost half (46.6%) spent their time in Phantasus chatting with friends. Many avatars like helping others (27.3%), while quite a few come for the games. 21.1% said that they spent most of their time on WorldsAway hosting and/or playing games. Very few (2.5%) admitted that they spent their time ghosting and lurking about our fair city. Shopping is the activity of choice for 1.9% of the avatars, but the biggest surprise came from the whopping 0.6% who claimed the spent their days thieving and scamming. Either a lot of people were embarrassed to admit this was how the spent their time, or those few are responsible for a lot of activity. Question number three wanted to know where people got most of their information about scheduled games and events? Hats off to Clover, Sabertooth, MarvL and the rest of the "Inworld Scheduling Committee" for the great job they do every day. Over 1/3 of those surveyed (36%) used the forum as their guide to daily happenings. Others (20.8%) went to the Clarion or ESP! for their information. A few (0.8%) utilized the WA Web page to locate scheduled events, while the bulk of the population (42.4%) either ask about once they are in Phantasus or just stumble around. Gee, this explains all those wandering avatars with the glazed looks in their eyes ... and we thought it was from a bad batch of Kymer Country Comfort. Finishing off Survey #2 was a question about in-world newspapers. We listed all the known periodicals and asked you to tell us the ones you read regularly. It was no surprise to us that the Kymer Clarion, with over 42 issues published, was ranked as most popular and was read by 26.4% of the population. ESP! ranked a close second (21.7%). This is quite an accomplishment for ESP! since, as of our survey, it was only at its 14th issue. Great going Brynne and Dread! Despite its irregular publishing schedule, Thief & Theft was downloaded by 10.4% of the citizens. I think this is proof that citizens want to keep up with who's being bad. The Phantasus Sun, available only by subscription, is received by 6.1% of those polled. Only a handful of people surveyed read the WANews (3.8%). Both the German newspapers, Deutsche ESP! and Der Traumbote were read by 6.6% of the population. I think another survey to find out the country of origin of avatars is in order, before any comment can be made on the non-english periodicals. Again, the surprising answers came under "Other". Almost one-fifth (18.4%) do not read any of the WA newspapers. Many avatars even admitted that they had never heard of them and had no idea where to find a copy. This came as quite a shock to us doing the survey. Since you are reading this, you can give yourself a pat on the back for being one of the more "informed" avatars inworld. Let's see what we have so far ... the "average avatar" spends 20 hours a week on WorldsAway chatting, playing games, and helping others. He or she hits the forum a couple of times a week and reads an inworld newspaper to check the schedule or just takes a chance wandering around. Next week, we will ask a few more questions and find out more about this character. See how you measure up ... be sure to answer Survey #3, coming inworld to a location near you! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Feature Stories ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} - Dread's Spot - {!} By Dread Hiya! I hope you're all writing away in your turfs for the compe- tition. As you know Mr and Mrs Wert are our guest judges and we are all looking forward very much to next week when the competition is over ... errr ... when we begin the judging. So get writing and good luck, no need to thank us for the small fortune you save online. The groups of Kymer don't seem to be very active these days. The Hispaniclytes have been publishing quite a bit, including WorldsAway stuff in Latin/Spanish related forums such as (GO FORLAT, GO MEXICO, GO SPFORU). The Duckolytes have also been busy since Brains' restructuring of the group weeks ago. With the rewriting of the Duckolyte Constitution and the revamping of the group hierarchy came the foundations which secure the Duckolytes as probably the most organized group in Kymer. From this springboard they added two regular events to Kymer's schedule; the return of the shell game and a brand new game called Pinkie & the Brains. The latter event is sponsored by ESP!, because we believe that the combination of the *new* Duckolytes and ESP! make this event, currently, the most fun in Kymer. It's a little like ghost racing except you never know where the finish line is or even when you've finished unless you're the winner. Sounds crazy huh? Well I was at the first event on Friday night and it was a great success. How many of you noticed the strange happenings at the picnic vendroid in Meditation Park? I'm not talking about the items, no, see there was a wisp of snow that edged up the front of the vendo and well, if you clicked on it and walked there, your avatar would disappear behind the vendo. So, at one point four of us stood behind it surprising people as they flicked through the vendo items. "Would Sir care for a fish pie?" "Shut up I'm not talking to a machine." (flicking to an apple) "Ah, an excellent choice - an apple a day ..." "Boy this is weird, ok bye bye nice machine." And so it went on. Some actually believing that it was a new feature added to the vendo when it reappeared last week. When I returned the following morning the snow had gone. Talking about vendos, one thing that has always got me is the green fuzzie in the keepsake vendo. Last November there were three fuzzies in that thing, brown, blue and pink. There was also a brown one in the first vendo on entering V-Mart -- no green. How come they all disappeared and a green one was added, and what happened to all the others on the street? I've only seen two pink ones which I was told were customized by Oracle Uni. I saw an oracle this week pop down to the elevator lobby to mark someone as a thief. I think the description said *adjudged thief* when clicking the *tell me about*. The lobby area and first elevator were hogged as usual by people who I don't think realise that the rest of us are forced to ghost each and every time we journey to or from a turf. Hey why not hang around elevator 3, not as much attention there but it would solve the problem. Soon after, while I was having evil thoughts about lobby hoggers, I was booted along with everyone else out of WA. I saw a new error -- DROPPED. I had been dropped, whatever that means and so had everyone else at the same time. Lucky them, but at least some people in that 5 minutes would have got to their turf without ghosting. He he, ain't I sarcastic! WA related problems are quite common, notice how every other weekend we can't in? So what's gonna happen in 2000? The year when the world is reckoned to self destruct. Yeah right! Well, maybe not so unlikely after all. It's all because computer clocks will go nuts when the year resets to *00*. The American government has already estimated 30 billion dollars to check every line of code for a date conflict. The world will end because the date thing is expected to crash most computer systems including the false alarms of early warning systems and the inevitable retaliatory missile launches. What a load of hogwash! Want to know what the most frightening day will be -- 6/6/6. That's one date I don't wanna get DROPPED. Did you see the new head in library 8 Dreamscape Snaps? Check out NEW HEAD!(NOT FOR SALE) submitted on 5/17/96. An expertly taken snapshot. I was also surprised to see the EMP KING Adrian Z. GoldenChild and Editor of Theft & Thief change his forum name to Dreadblocks, then WA TEAM then to Acolyte Pooh, and finally to Oracle Pooh. I guess he was just having fun, but my my, kind of deceitful isn't it? I've been carrying my happy box around town but haven't collected a single token yet. I haven't exactly been asking everyone to donate or running off WA Community theatre macros, but that was never the deal, so if you see me, please give me my first token. If you don't see me, and you can't be bothered to enter the competition, then send in a reader's letter. We hardly get any of these, so don't forget that reader's letters are your way to communicate publicly with ESP! Tell us the things you don't like as well as what you do like about ESP! We want to hear from all our readers. Remember I told you last week that ESP! is doing a lot in the background and that I would keep you informed? Of course you do. Well, because ESP! contains material that is not always related directly to WA, we thought it would be something if we could expand on the supernatural, the fantasy, the magical aspects of the Waking World. The Witching hour is a prime example of the material that has kept ESP! linked to both worlds. We thought it would be interesting to commission an astrologer to cast a horoscope for Kymer. Not a fantasy thing but a real serious attempt to apply astrology to a cybercity for the first time. So we did. Look out for the zipped ESP! Kymer Horoscope in the library, coming soon (windows write file only -- sorry). It's finished and just awaits final approval to upload. Again, this is another first, and something that ESP! has committed to for the enjoyment of all Kymerians. Expanding further, as of this issue Hierophant has a regular spot. So check out his first Tarot article. It's always worth putting time aside to read ESP!, so make yourself a cup of tea, and enjoy this issue. Oh! And did I mention that Darkwolf Fenrier is back with a new series? No? well I wont spoil all the surprises so read on -- Keep Smiling. {!} - Tarot Majik: Unraveling the Knots - {!} By Hierophant SRK Ed Note: Hierophant SRK is a facilitator of the Sunray Majik Guild One day, as Phred was walking around Dreamscape, he came upon Hannah, sitting on the side of the road, looking sad. Phred asked her what was wrong. "Oh, everything," she sighed. My favorite fuzz ball was stolen, and in general my life has no direction." "I can help you with the fuzz ball", Phred said. "I just happen to have one here, and you're welcome to it." "Thanks," Hannah said, instantly perking up. "Happy to help," Phred said, "I wish I could help you with your other problems. Directionless life is a hard one. Have you tried an in-world Tarot reading?" Hannah looked surprised. "I don't feel like knowing the future. What if something bad is going to happen?" "Oh no!" Phred moaned. "I don't use the Tarot to tell the future. There's so much work to do just living in the present." "Well, how does the Tarot help?" "The images of the Tarot will help you unravel the threads you feel tangled up in." "Tangled threads?", Hannah mused. "Yes. Your direction has gotten caught in a loop. Even though you are trying to move forward, all your energy stays stuck in the knot. If you can unravel the knot you can move forward into the best possible future." "Could you give me an example?" "Well, one time I was caught in a loop at work. I was struggling with a co-worker. Everything I did, she fought against, and everything she did, I fought against. This situation was making me miserable. The Tarot helped me a lot. I drew the Three of Wands, which shows a man standing next to three wands, looking out over the sea of his own unconscious power. The image means that you gain strength by merging your will in a higher will. I decided that since a higher power had placed me in this working situation, I would go with it instead of fighting against it. As soon as I soon as I started treating her as an ally instead of an enemy, the whole pattern shifted and we started working together. The result was that we both felt good, and we did a great job besides." "Wow", Hannah said. "You got all of that out of one card?" "Well, no. A full reading shows you a lot about your energy patterns and how to overcome them. For example, I got some insight into how I needed to let go of my control over the situation. As soon as I let go, I was free." "Oh really? What card showed you that?" "It was the Four of Pentacles, which shows a greedy man holding on to the gifts he has been given. The Four of Pentacles shows you that sometimes you can be a prisoner of what you are holding on to." "Can give me a reading?" "Well, to start with let's just do a card or two. How would you characterize your problem, again?" "I'm just bored. Nothing seems to excite me. I don't feel like I'm going anywhere." Phred reached down to the forest green paisley pouch he wore on his belt. "I always carry my cards with me," he smiled. "Here you go. Shuffle the deck a few times, and then pick out a card." Hannah pulled out a card with a picture of a large golden Ankh. Phred said, "Ah, what a beautiful card. The Ace of Ankhs. The number one means a new beginning. You are getting ready for a change. No wonder you feel disconnected and out of your element. Whenever you are ready for a new beginning the old ways seem dull and past. The card is in the Ankh suit, which indicates that the change is not necessarily of an external nature. The new beginning is subtler, one of spiritual growth. You are developing your inner eye to see more, and as a result you have been feeling dissatisfied with your outer circumstances." "But what should I do about it?", Hannah asked. "Do ... ", Phred mused. "So often we look for a next action, but instead of telling us about actions the Tarot shows us the best attitude. If we get that right, the right actions follow naturally. Let's try one more card though, to see if we can feel out the most helpful attitude for your situation." Hannah selected the Nine of Wands, which shows a man with a bandage around his head, standing next to nine wands. He is holding on to one of the Wands as if for support. Perhaps he has been using it as a cudgel. "The number nine is a number of completion. The nine wands mean that this man has completed a cycle of energy in the world. He's strong and says, "I can do this", but he's already done it, so maybe he's looking for a change. In answer to your question, "What should I do?" the Tarot appears to be saying, "You have been through much. Now be strong and patient as you move into the next phase of your life."" "Wow. That's kewl. Those images are giving me some ideas on how to rearrange my attitude." "Yes, the Tarot is especially uplifting in Dreamscape, because the imagination is so powerful here. Once you harness the Tarot's images you can ride them up to the stars." "Can we do this again sometime?" "Sure. Life is full of situations and questions, and the Tarot always seem to give some helpful insights." {!} - How Garion and Ce'Nedra arrived in Kymer - {!} By Ce'Nedra Chapter Five Garion sprang away from the screen as pictures and sound began to come to life. Ce'Nedra had stopped singing in surprise, but this time the screen did not fade. She stood beside Garion and they both stared with amazement. A face appeared on the screen. It was that of an elderly man with a long white beard and kindly eyes. As they watched, the man spoke. "I am Mor-fus, once the Lord Guardian of Krikkit. You have discovered the way to unlock the secret that my people left in my temple for a special person to find. This computer is a communications device which can only be activated by someone who has knowledge of the song of Mor-fus. Many years ago, my people had to leave this planet and find another home, far away. This planet had been taken over by evil people who wanted all power for themselves and they caused a great war, with terrible weapons that almost destroyed Krikkit. I helped the good people that were left to get away and start a new life, so I had them build this computer to tell the story of what happened here. Watch this recording and find out what happened." Ce'Nedra turned excitedly to Garion. "The song of Mor-fus!" she exclaimed, "That was what must have been on the stone tablets that I found in the temple that time I told you about!" "Yes," answered Garion, "and your singing the song has activated the computer!" "Listen," said Ce'Nedra, "there's something else happening now". They turned to look at the screen again. The ancient people of Krikkit appeared on the screen in front of them. They came on one by one to tell their story. They told how, when the planet was on the verge of destruction, Mor-fus had told them that they must all leave immediately. They should equip a starship, secretly, and take the peace-loving inhabitants of the planet away to a new home which would be called *Dreamscape*. In this place they would be able to live peacefully and in harmony with each other. This world is a very special place, it was created especially for anyone who was feeling lost, lonely, or afraid, or even whole populations of people like the Krikkits who could not stay on their home planet any longer. "Oh Garion," breathed Ce'Nedra, "I'm sure that was the place I dreamed about when I levitated on Konta Hill." "Look there's more," said Garion. "You who have activated this recording," continued the voice of Mor-fus, "have a special talent for singing. You are the kind of person who would be very welcome in the Dreamscape. We are always recruiting new citizens. Will you join us? If you would be willing to come, you can summon the starship by singing something of your own creation." "Garion, what shall I do?" cried Ce'Nedra. "It all sounds so wonderful, and I wouldn't have to marry that awful Seltsian. But ..." and her voice trailed off as she looked at Garion, "what about you? I couldn't leave you behind. I wonder ... perhaps you have a special talent that they would accept." "Me? What sort of talent have I got? I can't sing like you. All I know is farming and I don't think they want that." He paused, remembering something. "That letter I got from the I.S.E. said something about them always being ready to accept people from Krikkit because of the *special contribution* they can make. I didn't know what they meant at the time, but maybe there is something in it after all." "Why yes, there must be! It must be something you don't realise you have. Shall I sing now and see what happens?" "Suppose they don't let me come with you?" Garion was getting worried at the thought of losing Ce'Nedra forever. "Then I won't go," she answered, "and we'll just have to think of another way to be together." "Okay then sing your sweet song, it's worth a try." "I have a new song I composed only a few days ago. You haven't heard it yet. It's called Yellow Roses." She began to sing, and as she did so, a brilliant shaft of white light shot straight up through the temple roof and into the sky. "Who can tell me if we have heaven, Who can say the way it should be? Starlit flowers, a wandering comet, Angel tears below a tree. You talk of the break of morning As you view the new Aurora, Cloud in crimson, the key of heaven, One love carved in acajou. One told me of yellow roses, One a thousand nights and one night, The world's last picture, the end of evening; Hue of indigo and blue. A bright star leads me to Woods of dreams and I follow. A new world waits for me; My dream, my way. I know that if I have heaven There is nothing to desire. Rain and river, a world of wonder May be paradise to me. I see the sun, I see the stars." * * * Everid stormed out of his house in a rage. "Ce'Nedra has gone!" he shouted at Jargin. "I just went to tell my wife that I would be out tonight consulting with the others about what to do about that light, when she told me that Ce'Nedra had been out all day visiting a friend and has not returned. She should have been back hours ago!" "I've just spoken to Thandar at the farm," Jargin told him. "He said that his son, Garion has also been missing all day, and has not yet returned." "I knew it!" exploded Everid. "He's been hanging around her for weeks. They both thought I hadn't noticed, but I was keeping an eye on them. She would soon be married, anyway, so I didn't bother too much about it. What a fool I was!" Suddenly, they both turned and looked at the shaft of light coming from the temple. "Those words I caught her reciting!" exclaimed Everid. "She must have found them in the temple. That's where they must be! How dare they! Those are sacred words passed down through the generations, only to be uttered when the time is right. This will mean death and destruction for us all!" "My friend, we must gather all the men in the village together and go and stop those two from what they are doing, and bring them back at once," said Jargin. "Yes, you're right, come, quickly, there is no time to lose. We'll take our speed hovers, they will be the quickest way to get there," answered Everid. * * * "Garion, I can hear something," said Ce'Nedra. She looked up, through the hole in the temple roof, but the light was so bright, it hurt her eyes and she had to look away. "I can hear it too," answered Garion. "It's a kind of whirring, whistling sound." They both began to feel as though the whole room was spinning round. They tried to hold on to each other, but they were too weak, and gradually, they lost consciousness. * * * Ce'Nedra woke up. Garion was nowhere to be seen. She was in a strange place and she couldn't understand what was happening. It seemed to be a room of some kind, but it was all white, and the only furniture was the bed she was lying on, if it could be called a bed. On further investigation, it seemed to be a sort of coffin-shaped container, with an open, clear lid. There were switches, and flashing lights on the side of it. On the wall in front of her, was a screen. As she watched, the screen started to glow and then a face appeared on it. The face smiled and then started to speak. "Greetings, Ce'Nedra," said the man. "You are most welcome. We will be honoured to take you to the Dreamscape, a world ruled by the God, Morpheus. I believe you call him by the name *Mor-fus, Guardian of Krikkit*, but he is the same person. "You will meet many new friends, and be able to use your unique talent for singing and writing songs. Everyone in the Dreamscape is encouraged to develop his or her own special talents, and to share their knowledge with others. "Your new home is many light-years away from Krikkit, and, although this star-ship is the latest model, and is capable of very fast speeds, it will take ten years to get to the Dreamscape. It will be necessary for you to be put into a state of hibernation while this craft journeys through space to your destination. During this time, your body will age normally, so that when you wake up, you will be ten years older than you are now. Do not worry about this, everything will be taken care of and you will be kept in perfect health throughout. Unfortunately, due to certain condtions necessary for keeping you alive, the activity of your brain will have to be slowed down. This will result in a temporary loss of memory for a time. This will gradually return to you during your time in the new world. "On arrival at the Dreamscape, you will be resuscitated and teleported to a ship called the *Argo*. You will be alone on this ship. When the ship reaches the shores of an island called Kymer, you will be able to disembark and given the opportunity to choose a new body and head for yourself. The currency in Kymer is Tokens, and you will be provided with a small amount of these before you leave the Argo. You will be known as an Avatar. You will arrive entirely on your own, but do not worry, the people there are very friendly, and you will soon settle in. Are there any questions?" "My friend, Garion?" asked Ce'Nedra, fearfully. "Where is he? Was he allowed to come too? If he wasn't, I don't want to go either!" "Don't worry, Ce'Nedra," answered the man, "he is here, but in another chamber. He too has a unique talent that will be invaluable when he gets to the Dreamscape. I can't tell you what it is, but it is something very rare and wonderful." "But, will I see him when I get to Kymer? If I'm to lose my memory then I won't know him and he won't know me. We still won't be together!" "It's true you may not know him right away, but fate will eventually lead you to one another if it is meant to be. And, somehow, you will know. From then on, it will be up to both of you what you make of your lives but I know you will be happy. Now, would you please make yourself comfortable in the cocoon and we will take you to your new home." Ce'Nedra lay down and closed her eyes, thinking of Garion, but somehow knowing that everything was going to be alright. The End . . . or The Beginning! This story was written by "Ce'Nedra" of Kymer. Send your entry to Dread 101646,2776 ESP! It's *Your* Soapbox! {!} - TG's Hatemail No.5 - {!} by Throbbing Gristle HMS or: Did you help a newbie to death today? or: My first day in Kymer, alternate version " Whoever fights monsters should see that he does not become a monster himself" (Therapy?) Here we go again, I can't stop it. Yes yes, helping is nice. Oh groups are fine. (As long as you know why you joined them). Oh yes, people will admire you for all your good deeds in kymer. Uuhmmm..maybe... not always. I know there are newbies coming to town, that although they are using a computer to get there, do not have the ability to click on things and read the menus. Hopeless cases in my opinion, food for the holy helpers on the other side. There surely are lots of things to be explained when you first enter the dreamscape, but these mostly aren't, but that's another story. I myself try to give people help and advice when I'm asked for it, but not when I'm not asked for it. It seems like sometimes there are people entering the dreamscape that have the ability to use their own brain. And these don't always get blessed with this. Queen V (I shortened the name cause I couldn't find her today and ask her for her permission to use the name) left the Argo on May 27 as avatar9337 (or something like this) and started exploring the dreamscape. After she walked around for 2 hours inworld I got known to her in front of the turf building and she caught my attention at once, when one of the ever-present helpers dropped down near her to give her some good advice about thieves in Kymer (of course, what else?). Queen V did not react in the expected way saying "Oh yes please thank you sir" but said that she has been online for 2 hours now and since then was struck with warnings and regulations of all kind. The helper gave a quite sarcastic answer to her and disappeared. When I started talking to her, she said something I'd like to see as a headline above the guidelines of all these GKs, KGs, EMPs etc etc etc: "I DOUBT IF ANYONE'S HAVING FUN HERE!" That's what I ask myself too sometimes when I watch people spending all of their online time playing police&thief in Kymer or hanging around spying in the ghost clouds just waiting for their first chance to pop down and tell someone that he used a bad word or whatever... This can become an obsession. Must be real fun to be a real goodie. Or, is this the fun, ruling others? Many people surely are impressed if an "authority" appears wearing an impressive name like "Julian, Imperator-BSE-GK-KG-Curse of the mighty 4th ryche" or any other nonsense that nobody will keep in mind, to tell the right from wrong. Well I definitely am not impressed, and the more I am forced to watch these, the more they are scrambling my nervous system. Fellow avatars and specially newbies reading this: They DO have to tell you nothing. If you cause problems, there are other persons that have to take care of these! One of my own avatars was questioned several times by members of the same organization about a happening in which I wasn't involved, cause they even did not get the name right. In the future *I* will completely ignore such attempts, no matter where they come from. And this is my advice to all of you ... they have no legal matter to accuse, suspect or interrogate you. If you do not take part in their game, they will loose their fun in this kind of game by itself. Who do these think they are? But back to the story of Queen V. As I liked her from the first minute on, I gave her one of TG's black coloured heads so she could remove her wonderful newbie head and have the chance for some privacy this way. Good old Sharon Stoned took her shopping a bit more and after leaving behind the avatar-number she seemed to be integrated into the population of Kymer. That's what I call helping, but of course this costs a few tokens, which could be missing in the next collectibles auction. But that was not the end ... Queen V went around Kymer and entered Starway Cafe where she met a sunray who was showing around a newbie himself. At this time she was wearing the black head. The first thing the sunray said was: Those are the ones I told you to look out for! Queen V: This person doesn't even know me and started cutting me down simply on the basis. I told the newbie by ESP that he had no reason to think I am evil just because of a head and offered to give him further help, but the sunray had him brainwashed. Great work, man! My impression of the sunrays is rising weekly. It's good to know that the classic forces of Kymer act by brain and not by prejudice. Congratulations to your dream of love peace and harmony, that at I read about last week in the sunray-column. Well ... I asked Queen V to join the vampires and she did, I hope this was the wisest for all. We do not need to jump on every newbie running around, trying to win him for our group. We prefer class. Still I would like to hear if there are more people who have made similar experiences to the ones of Queen V when you came to the dreamscape ... if so, email me your experiences, I will be pleeeeaaaased to continue this. {!} - Farewell Post from Acolyte Libra - {!} As a result of very intense waking world obligations right now, I will be resigning my position as Acolyte effective Sunday, June 9. My resignation is in no way, shape or form, the result of any displeasure on my part with the Acolyte/Oracle team, the Dreamscape, or FCT. Its simple a recognition of the fact that the time commitment to being an Acolyte is a very intense one and one that I simply can't afford right now (or for some years to come). This has been an extremely difficult decision for me and I am not really sure I can adequately express how I feel about it. These last 10 months have been an incredibly challenging, exciting, growing experience. I leave the Acolyte team a much wealthier person than I entered it, richer in knowledge, richer in wisdom, richer in experiences, and richer in friends. In the spirit of all Acolytes of Morpheus (those who wear the title and those who don't) simply because I won't wear the official trappings does not mean that I am any less in the service of the community. Please feel free to call on me whenever you feel I can help. I still plan to be an active member of the community for many years to come... Dream well, Acolyte Emeritus Libra {!} - The Witching Hour - {!} By Witchy, Queen of the Dark Side Herbs ----- In ancient times, when man hunted and woman gathered, the only wisdom and healing power came from the earth in the form of herbs and plants. The one (usually the woman) who held the knowledge of them, ranked high in the tribe, and this knowledge was transmitted verbally from mother to daughter. In such times medicine and magic were one and the same thing, and even in later periods of history, such as in ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt, the two were still closely linked. In Greece, the word 'pharmakeia' from which the modern word pharmacy derives, meant both the compounding of medicinal drugs and the making of magical potions and philters. Even as late as the Middle Ages, when modern medicine was in its early years of trial and error, it was to the local witch, with her knowledge of herbs and potions, that poor folk would go; and she would certainly kill fewer people than the medicine man with his leeches and saws. The village witch was then "herbalist, spellmaker, interpreter of dreams, healer, midwife and psychologist all rolled into one." And it was from the herbs that she gained much of her power. Herbs are a perfect example of what real magic is all about. By learning to listen to herbs and by talking to them, it is possible to create a relationship with them which will enable us to use their powers to an extent that far exceeds what can be achieved by science. Herb's magic operates on a very immediate level, that of sensations. Its effects, although acting on a transient plane, open the door to long lasting changes but can be very useful as quick remedies too. For example, rue will open your eyes to mistakes which you might be committing at the present time. This herb magic will not change those mistakes, or the reasons for which you are committing them, but it will bring your attention to them and act as a stepping stone towards a deeper understanding and change, and it will certainly be very useful at that moment. Adam and Eve Root ----------------- Adam and Eve root (also known as putty root) is found in the southern United States. It has been used for many years as a love charm by Blacks in the south. It is under the general rulership of Venus, with a secondary influence from Saturn. Today the root is usually purchased as a curio in occult or herb and spice shops. As a love charm it is usually made in pairs, one for each partner. The two roots are prayed over and one is given to each party in the relationship. The roots may be carried in a "charm bag" or otherwise carried on the person. This love charm is usually used when children are desired from the relationship; it is not used for casual affairs. Adam and Eve root may also be used as a good luck charm, but it does not combine well with other ingredients in magical operations. As a good luck charm it is simply prayed over and given to the recipient to carry. Some people prefer it to any other charm you could make. Aloe ----- Aloe is the herb of Islam, as rue is the herb of Christianity and hyssop the herb of Judaism. Moslems who have made the pilgrimage to Mecca hang aloe over their doorways as a protective measure, and as a symbol of their pilgrimage. The herb itself is a symbol of patience, especially the patient submission to the will of God. It may be used in baths to assist the development of patience in people. Use about a quarter cup of chopped aloe, which can be steeped in a quart of boiling water. Add to a tub of water, and soak in the bath fifteen to twenty minutes. Aloe has many uses in medicine as well. It is a particularly soothing herb which is used to heal cuts and abrasions. Blessed Thistle --------------- The blessed thistle, or holy thistle, has a long history as a good luck charm. It may either be carried on your person or placed in your house to attract good luck. In the house it can be used in an arrangement of dried flowers in the main room. Occasionally it is placed in an arrangement by itself. The blessed thistle is able to absorb negative influences, and this is what gives it its reputation as a good luck charm. If you decide to place some blessed thistle in your home, you might wish to change them every week or so, as they absorb their limit of negativity in that time. Cinnamon -------- Cinnamon is one of the most useful spices in magical practice. It is used for purification, blessing, protection, and prosperity. It is a primary ingredient in many of the powders and incenses used in both Eastern and Western magical practices. True cinnamon powder should be purchased from an herb store, as the grocery store product is usually cassia, an entirely different thing altogether. The Food and Drug Administration allows cassia to be labeled as cinnamon, so it takes a bit of searching to find the real thing. Cinnamon is perhaps most useful in protecting yourself from the envy and jealousy of others. Using it is simplicity itself: simply place a dab of cinnamon, about half as much as will cover the head of a match, on your breastbone while you are dressing. You can also mix it with plain unscented talcum powder. A half teaspoon cinnamon to two cups of talcum powder will give you a good mixture. This talcum may be used as a dusting powder after the bath, and the protective influence of cinnamon will surround you. Marigold -------- The marigold is not only a beautiful garden or house plant, it is one of the most potent plants used in magic. As a plant of both the Sun and the Moon, it has a host of useful magical properties. In the garden, it is planted as a border to protect plants and seedlings from insects. In herbal medicine it has been used for healing damaged flesh and open wounds. It is an herbal specific for cancers which are ulcerous, several cups of the tea being taken each day until the cancer is healed. Magically, the tea made with a tablespoon of the flowers and a cup of water. It is an excellent condenser of the astral force. The tea may be placed in a charm bag and prayed over to keep the charm "on target," or a few drops of the tea may be prayed over and rubbed on the hands. Magic mirrors may be made through the use of the alcoholic extract of the marigold flowers. The mirror is made by coating the front of a piece of cleaned window glass with the solution, and then prayed over to see what one wishes to view. If the glass is not cleaned, the astral charge will reveal itself constantly through such a mirror. Peony ----- The leaves and flowers of the common peony are used in washes and baths, particularly in initiatory practices. The root of the peony is used as a good luck charm, and is often added to charm bags for success and to reverse spells sent against the wearer. The seeds of the Peony are considered to be very dangerous, as very powerful curses are placed with them. Peony seeds are said to cause disorder and strife when they are scattered in a room. The person who steps on a peony seed usually starts an argument with the one person in the room whom he or she should avoid in the first place! The peony seed is the reputed Jumby Bean of folk magic, and its use in magic as an agent of cursing is well known. Tonka Bean ---------- The tonka bean is a short blackish bean that vaguely looks like a small piece of a vanilla bean. It has a distinctive flavor and taste. In magical use, the bean has gathered a great reputation as a charm, being used both as a love charm, and to ward off the evil eye. As a charm to attract love, it is simply carried in the pocket or worn in a charm bag. To ward off the evil eye it is placed on a necklace, or a number of beans may be strung on a necklace, and worn around the neck. Bracelets may also be made from the tonka bean. They cast a protective vibration on the person who wears them. Blessed * Be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Esta semana les traigo dos poemas para el dia de los padres. 1) De Lope de Vega: Ire a mi padre Levantareme de la seca tierra que pacen estos rudos animales, oh, Padre!, a tus entranas paternales, de donde mi locura me destierra. Ire al palacio, dejare la sierra, donde estos rotos miseros sayales me trocaran en purpuras reales: que a nadie que llamo, las puertas cierra. Confesarele que perdido anduve, y aun que temo el llegar, pues lo mas verde de mis pasados anos me detuve. Para que llegue basta que me acuerde; que si perdi lo que de hijo tuve, lo que tiene de Padre no lo pierde. 2) De Alfredo Bufano: Mi Padre Lo recuerdo a mi padre con su gesto altanero; botas de cabalgar y tamaño sombrero. Rostro de barba en punta, ojos de alga marina, amplio el torax saliente y la espalda taurina. Sobradamente supo sufrir y trabajar, poco lo vi reir, nunca lo vi llorar. Mudo, impasible, rigido, sereno, altivo, fuerte, mas de una vez miro cara a cara la muerte. En las noches de invierno, tras del yantar, solia abismarse en un viejo manual de geografia. Viajo asi por el mundo que nunca pudo ver. El suyo fue su predio, su casa y su mujer. Despues de su invariable jornada de sudores, sus pajaros cuidaba, su caballo y sus flores. Ibase los domingos a caza de perdices. Fueron, oh Dios, sin duda, sus dias mas felices! Sus manos labradoras y rudamente bellas tan solo descansaron con una cruz entre ellas. El, que sonrio tan poco y apenas, aquel dia, oh Senor, como nunca dichoso sonreia! MUCHAS FELICIDADES A TODOS LOS PADRES DE WA! --------------------------------------------- ¡Saludos!/Greetings! Our group will be called "Kymer's Little Theater". They did a great job with their production of Little Red Riding Hood. We would like to create a play that has more drama or comedy than the fairy tales. However, we are not quite sure how many people would be interested in watching it or being in it or being a part of it. If you would be interested in performing in, being part of the production committee, or watching a play in WorldsAway, please e-mail one of these sponsors: Milora (M. Michele Dawley) at 103464, 1775 or at internet address lester@mail.teclink.net or Sandy Pylos at 74227,1602. We are considering presenting a Star Trek type play in a rented turf. We especially need sponsors with lots of extra tokens and in world experience. Julianne Luna (Jennifer L. Shanafelt) is working on a script at present, but invites ideas. If enough avatars do want to become involved, we would charge a small fee for entrance into the play. However, everyone that contributes will be repaid with the tokens earned. Profit made will be given to newbies to help start their life in the Dreamscape. We first need to organize a production committee before starting auditions. We definitely need people to be part of the production committee. This means we need people to be in charge of certain areas. Such as in world advertisement(if you have WA Macro, you could tell people on the streets about our play), donation of props and/or tokens, newspaper advertisement(e-mailing ESP!, Kymer Clarion, and WA News about our in world meetings, auditions, performances, rehearsals, etc.), keeping up with the financial part of the play (in charge of getting people together to collect tokens to get into performances, in charge of collecting tokens donated by people for props, etc.), being a judge for auditions (deciding who is best for a part), fashion/head/costume designer or coordinator, and writers that know about Star Trek. These are some of the areas that you may be of help with. If you would like to be in charge of one certain area, e-mail me. We will (me and Sandy, as Sponsors) soon rent a turf, and we will announce a time for a meeting to set up a production committee that involves the above duties. {!} - Worlds of Fortune Recap - {!} By Acolyte Sunray Data Go to any elevator and RIDE THE ELEVATOR to: "Worlds of Fortune". Damn! I wish they'd fix those Environmental Control Systems; all this acid rain plays havoc with the paintwork on your Jaguar XXS 40. I was cruising downtown, going to see my latest main squeeze at The Banshee night club. I was decked out in my night club chic and packing my Avanti Arms Holdout; hey these are dangerous times! I pulled up outside The Banshee and let the Valet park the car, I could see the look of excitement on his face as he hopped behind the heel and saw the car's speedo 320 m.p.h.; yep fastest production model. I should hope so as, considering its cost. I entered the club, the low bass of the heavy Retro Thrash music made my rib cage hum. I flashed my gold card at the desk and was waved in. As I entered the lobby I was frisked for weapons but they didn't find my trusty holdout. I climbed the steps to the main dance floor and was almost knocked back by the wave of sound as I opened the door; damn, they like their music loud these days. I walked towards the bar carefully weaving in and out of couples and groups that where dancing to there own simsense parties, at the bar I ordered my usual ... A Blue Neon Saki. As I sipped my drink I saw a familiar face making her way towards me; it was Rachel my main squeeze. "Hi John, great to see you, I've missed you," she said and planted a long lingering kiss on my lips, boy -- this was one hell of a woman! "So how's tricks Rach'?" I finally asked. "Well you know," she replied, "could be better, could use some work, you got anything doing?" I did, but nothing for a deck cowboy of Rachel's expertise. "No, sorry, nothing doing. Market's dead I'm afraid" I replied. "Oh well, if you get anything John, you know where I am," she winked me a big grin on her lips. "I certainly do." I smiled back at her, "Shall we dance?" We headed for the Dance Floor, Rachel leading; she looked hot in that leather mini dress, jade definitely was her colour, complimented her blonde hair exquisitely. I knew she was armed the same as me, she also being a Runner, but where was she hiding it? I could only wonder, and boy was I wondering! We'd danced for half an hour, when I heard someone clearing their throat behind me, don't ask me how in this noise. I turned and standing there dressed in a drab but well tailored suit was the biggest meanest guy you've ever seen! "Uh-oh!" I thought, and made an involuntary movement for old faithful. The guy just smiled and flashed his palm, I saw the hole in the heel of his hand; ouch! a cyber gun. This guy was a Bodyguard for someone important, at least that's what I figured considering the time, money and effort it took for a cyber gun implant. The guy just smiled at me and waved to follow him, I was curious so I followed without hesitation. Rachel placed a hand on my arm, I just looked at her shaking my head, she understands a business proposal when she sees one. The guy lead me to one of the private booths that are dotted around the walls, as I approached, a middle aged Japanese Gentleman rose from his seat, he bowed to me and the offered his hand. "Good evening Mr Vendetta," he said as we shook hands. "Good evening Mr...?" I ask. "Mr Johnson," he said then smiled. Mr Johnson is a generic name given in my profession as the name for a would be employer, great! business at last, and a corper too, should be good pay! "Would you like a drink Mr Vendetta?" the Johnson asked. "Neon Saki, Blue please" I love that drink. It tickles yer throat as it slips down. The Johnson sent his man to the bar for the drinks while he told about last night's brawl game. Okay nothing wrong with small talk but I'd wish he'd cut to the chase, I'm excited about the prospect of a fat job but he's keeping me from a beautiful lady! The Bodyguard returned with the drinks and set them down, the Johnson took a sip before talking business. "So Mr Vendetta, they tell me your're one of the best in your field, is this true?" I smiled to myself, "I do my work, I get the job done, I'm clean and efficient, if that's what you mean by *the best* then yes you could say I am." I leaned back in my chair, I had a good feeling about this job; it was going to be a hit. Hitting is my expertise; it yields high income for little danger. "Good, then I have approached the right person, you see there is a certain young executive who has his eye on my position, and he has gathered a fair amount of information about me, which could break me and open up the way for him. All I require is for you to remove him and erase any info he may have on me." The Johnson paused for a reaction then continued, "More information will be given if you accept this job, but I can tell you that your fee will be $1,000,000 of which you will receive $250,000 in advance, so do you accept the job Mr Vendetta?" I smile again. I'm going to have to use a Decker on this job but a million should cover that and still leave me well off. Besides Rachel is a Decker so no probs there. I finished my drink and offered my hand to the Johnson. "Consider your problem already dealt with Mr Johnson." We shook hands and the Johnson passed me a briefcase which I took then stood, bowed to the Johnson and walked away to find Rachel waiting at the bar, bless her she'd been watching my back, it's always good to find a girlfriend that's in the same business, you can guarantee they'll do more than just look after you, they'll watch out for you too. "Hi babe" I said as I reached to her, "I got you some work, let's blow this joint and I'll fill ya in." We left The Banshee and headed home. Well Rachel's home to be precise. I told her about the $500,000 hit we've been employed to do. Okay, call me a cad for lying to Rachel but business is business and no one gets rich by sharing things equally, but that's just the guy I am I guess. We headed up town to her apartment and parked the car. Rachel made coffee while I checked the contents of the briefcase; there was a dossier on the target and a credchip for $250,000. I studied the dossier whilst Rachel slipped into something more comfortable. I make notes on my personal organiser about the target, where he goes what he does when he's there etc. and I started to formulate a plan. I was deep when Rachel started to run her fingers through my hair. "Come on," she whispered, "that can wait 'till morning, right now I need some lovin." I woke the following morning very eager to start, I know my work is considered evil, but I enjoy it, not so much the killing as the events leading up to and after the actual killing it is a pure adrenaline rush for me. I showered, got dressed and made us breakfast before getting to work. The guy is Akira Yamamotto a young Exec for the Mirromar Corporation, the actual hit is simple, he regularly attends many bars and clubs, an easy take out, the difficult part of the job is the finding and erasing of the information on the Johnson. Mirromar has its own Matrix construct, so it looks like we'll have to get in there and get dirty. I'm going to need more muscle for that (more damn expense), though I know a couple of guys who will do it for next to nothing. Over the next two days I formulated the plan, ran it through my mind for every flaw. When I was 90% sure that it was flawless I started gathering the equipment. I never get a plan to work at 100% 'cause sods law says everything can and will go wrong and so I settle for 90%, so I'm never surprised; I hate surprises. Junblat brought round the equipment I asked for; Junblat is my fixer and supplies all my gear. In this case he supplied an Ingram Arms Industries Mac 250 hi powered sniping rifle with one full clip of armour piercing explosive rounds, the modern day body armours call for armour piercing rounds and I use explosive rounds 'cause if by some fluke I'm off the mark the shock should kill the target anyway. For breaking in to Mirromar I've a Mini Uzi, 6 clips of AP and an armoured vest with some ceramic plate inserts, the rest of the gear is for Rachel. Lesson number one: In my line of business only buy the weapons for the job your doing, when the job is done dispose of the weapons. We arranged to meet RiffRaff and Doozer (that's my merc buddies) at the Cockroach, a very sleazy bar down in the Barren's. There I explained the plan for breaking into Mirromar and their respective roles in the job. They absorbed it making a few comments on improving the plan for best results on their part, I agreed (hey they are professionals). Mission success probability 93% that leaves 7% for sods law I hope sod is happy with 7%. I hate surprises. Next day I carried out the hit on Yamamotto, I took him out as he left a restaurant. I was 200 yards away on the 5th storey of a multi-storey carpark, It's a clean kill nothing special and no reason to dwell on it, except for the fact that it was a success. I ditched the weapon in the sea, it's hard to find in the sea, plus when it is, the salt and motion will have destroyed any would be evidence. Next week ... The Hit On Mirromar. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Ratava Doings ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {!} - Hero In our Midst - {!} By @thena I don't know if you've noticed or not...but it has almost been two months since I have been in-world. I have been through hell and back with problems that occurred after I upgraded my system to 24 megs of RAM and Windows 95. One of the many things that went wrong was my modem. For some reason, I couldn't fax or use CompuServe, but I *could* use a free E-mail service that I have. (I still don't know why this happened! ) Not everything on my system is working properly yet. But I wanted to take this opportunity to tell everyone of the reason that I am back on-line again: Sparhawk! Here's how it happened: I sent Spar an E-mail apologizing for missing his and Aisha's wedding. I was really bummed about missing it - I know it was probably one of Kymer's most lovely events! So most of my letter was an apology. I took maybe 3 or 4 sentences to tell him that I was having *major* computer problems. I even said I didn't want to bother him with all of them! So, what do I get the next day? You guessed it - Sparhawk took it upon himself to help me out. With one note I knew that I had chosen the right friend to chat with while bogged down with computer problems! It took about 14 or 15 E-mails to get it all worked out. This could have been cut a lot shorter if I had just given Spar a call like he suggested...but even after I explained that I would barely even be able to squawk out a "hello" if we were to speak on the phone and that I was just too shy to do it, he kept on helping. He kept on spending hours of his own free time to figure out what was wrong with my modem and how we could get me back on-line again. Anybody else could have just said "Sorry, Charlie" and went on with their life. But not Sparhawk. And what's more, he was a really good listener when I would spend half of a long E-mail verbally abusing the "technician" who screwed up my computer in the first place and then blamed me for it. He even joined in a few times! Needless to say, I probably would have been away from the cyber community for a very long time if it wasn't for the honorable, noble, valiant, hardworking, and every-other- word-in-the-book efforts of Sparhawk! So what can I say to this friend of mine who is now on a mile-high pedestal? Of course, thank you a million times over. And that if FCT would allow it, I would write your name across the sky for all to see. And that someday I'll build shrines in your name. LOL---you know, that sort of thing! But right now all I can do is bow down to the greatness that is Sparhawk and grovel at his feet --er --hooves. LET US ALL TREAT HIM LIKE THE KING HE IS!!! Thank you ********so********* much, Spar -- I thought everyone needed to know about the great thing that you did! Editor's Note: Welcome back, @thena! The Council of the Krewe consists of the Wing Commander, and the Senior Wings. Each Senior Wing is a leader on the policy-making level, who is responsible for formulating and executing the policies necessary to implement the Constitution and Bylaws of the Krewe of the Duckolytes. Each Senior Wing is also a manager, and is primarily responsible for training and facilitating the efforts of two related Floats, each of which is supervised by a Wing. Passion, in the role of game co-host Pinkie, cannily did her utmost to raise the level of excitement before the event, held in the turf Duck Hunt on Thursday, June 6, at 6 p.m. WAT. Pinkie and Raptor, Senior Duckolyte Wing, arrived an hour early to set security and place the special prize chests in the turf. They wanted the ghosts who were already arriving to see the prize chests, become intrigued and excited, and to spread the word among their friends. As Raptor was placing the chests and fixing security, Passion hit the streets with a macro inviting everyone to come. Duckolyte Chris Brown assisted, running the macro near the elevators in the apartment building. At 5:45 p.m. both co-hosts, Passion and Raptor, along with Brynne, Celerity Guest, and security specialist, Artema, Wing Liaison Officer were at their posts, ready to bgin. The event started right on time with Pinkie announcing the rules at 6:00 p.m. The rules were simple. Brynne, the celebrity guest, would hide somewhere in Kymer. After she had hidden, the participants would receive a secret phrase that contained a clue to the location of the Hidden. The first Seeker to find the Hidden, unghost, and say the code phrase aloud would win the round. The winner of the round would then select one of the locked prize chests. After the selection was made, a co-host would unlock the chest and reveal the secret surprise within. By 6:15 p.m., 30 eager ghosts had arrived. To ensure that all the participants had heard and understood the rules, Pinkie invited questions from the ghosts. She also assured the ghosts that she would save a transcript of each round in order to fairly resolve disputes or ties. Round #1 -- Brynne hid in the far left of the back room in the V-Mart, where there is no vendo. The code phrase was "Somewhere over the rainbow." Unga-Bunga won the round and chose the locked chest in which a piece of candy had been placed. Round #2 -- Pinkie hid next to the head machine in the right locale of the Visitors Center. The code phrase was "Which Newbie You Be?" Leadman, winner of the second round, received a blue rose head from the locked chest he selected. Round #3 -- Brynne hid in the Storeroom of the BarL Bar. The code phrase was "Happy Trails To You!" Little Princess won the round and the secret surprise of a gingerbread head. Round #4 -- Pinkie hid in the rear of the NuYu, next to the body machine. The code phrasa was "My What Muscles You Have!" Princess Toadstool won the round and also a snowman ornament as her secret surprise. Round #5 -- This round presented a special challenge, as Brynne tucked herself away on the other end of town next to the Sci-Fi Head vendo in the Starway Cafe. Escaper was the first to find her and to utter the code phrase, "Sunshine On My Shoulders". He selected a chest which contained a heart chest as the secret surprise. Thanks to superb planning by Passion, Brynne, and Brains, the event was outstanding. It started on time, and ended on time at 7:55 p.m. Most importantly of all, every one of the ghosts who started stayed until he or she won a round or until the end of the game. The participants reported that the game was exciting, fun, and well-organized. Most said that they were already eagerly awaiting the next installment of Pinkie & the Brains. This is fun, and the prizes are great! Don't miss out! Be sure to join Passion, Brains, our celebrity guest, and our superb support staff on Thursday, June 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the turf Duck Hunt. Oceanfront was able to track down the disrupter and convince them to do the right thing. This made everything right again and the person who would have been a victim was whole again. Oceanfront was accused by some of being part of the cause of the incident. Unbeknownst to many people, Oceanfront is a regular contributor to the Sunray Knights of Kymer as well as many other helper groups/organizations. She is one of the finest citizens in our fair city. Scheduled to take place at the Rose Garden in the Meditation park on Saturday June 15, 2:00 WAT. Read below for a brief description of this event and how you can contribute. There have been times in all of our lives when the winds of change sweep us away and carry us to places deep within ourselves we never new existed. These changes are often times disruptive and can cause us a great deal of pain. But most often than not, we see our real selves, we get in touch with what is true and known deep in our hearts and souls. We are, in fact, reborn. Reborn to the truth and to the Love that brought us here. This journey of the soul never really ends it only continues to move us perfectly towards the light of true understanding, acceptance and harmony inside ourselves and amongst our brothers and sisters. It is my belief and many others here on the planet that we live this dream, this life souly for one purpose, and that is to die so that we may truly live. Please join us on this special day and share an original poem or one written by a published author. Special awards will be given out to those sharing a poem or story, and sticking with the main theme of this event. For authors/avatars reading their own work, you don't need to include a copyright, but it is advised. Also, if you are reading work by a published author be sure to include the authors name and copyright information. Changes to recurring events should be submitted to both the Scheduling Group and ESP! ESP! is available in the Newsstand Library of the WA Community Forum and thus earns no tokens to pay authors. Submissions - {!} Each issue of ESP! requires a great deal of time to prepare. Once the Editor has received everything for an issue, eight to ten hours of actual work hours later, the issue is ready for uploading by mid- afternoon Sunday. Writers can help reduce some of this time by following these tips. 1. ESP! does not place article titles in all caps; we initial cap the main words of an article title. Most of our writers submit their articles with their titles in all caps; to clean this up, the Editor must change it to lower case and then initial cap the main words. Writers: help us save a little time by typing your titles in initial caps only (main words: not words like "a", "the" when used within the title, "by", etc.) Along these lines, it is not necessary to include the {!} - before and after your article title or try to center it. In the conversion to ASCII text for retrieval into WordPerfect 5.1, the attempt to center the title becomes blank spaces which need to be deleted because the title is not really centered. Type your title flush left and your byline underneath it. The Editor will run her macro which will center the title, add the {!} - and - {!}, move to the next line and center the byline. 2. ESP! doublespaces between paragraphs and does not use tabbed indents for the main body of the article. These are flush left. Lists within an article may be indented or tabbed. Articles submitted that are single spaced between paragraphs and tabbed in one tab position at the beginning of the next paragraph require major cleanup. Once saved as ASCII text, these tabs become spaces which must be manually removed. Because some of the gaming reports include tabbed lists of winners and items won (which in ASCII become spaces), a global search and replace of spaces cannot be done. If this is done, then the gaming reports must be totally reformatted, replacing all the spaces with tabs or putting the deleted spaces back in for the lists to line up properly. 3. If you have subheadings within your article, do not type them all in upper case. Type them in initial caps and underscore them with the dashes like this: Subheading ---------- [Begin text here] 4. Use the ellipsis (three periods) correctly. The proper use of the ellipsis is [word][space]...[space][word]. The ellipsis is used between a sentence and a phrase, not between two full sentences, and the periods within the ellipsis do not have spaces in between. In quotes from other sources, the ellipsis is also used to designate that text has been removed. Too often, writers pepper their articles with multiple periods in between sentences.......Like this. A very careful search and replace must be done because we do not want to remove a period where one properly belongs. 5. Event Listings: hosts submitting events are asked to follow this format so we can more easily conform it to our schedule format: Day and Date Time Name of Event (not in all caps; initial capped) Location (if in a turf, indicate Turf Address: [name]) Host's Name Description of event (keep to a maximum of 100 words) Submitting a listing that looks like this: EVENT NAME, MONDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY TIME DESCRIPTION HOST'S NAME requires us to retype this to conform to our Event Schedule format. Please help us save some time by submitting it as indicated above. We will put in the leader dots on the second line between the location and the host's name. 6. Above all, proofread your article before submitting it. A spellcheck is run on all articles but words like "here" and "hear" will not be caught because they are both legitimate words. So make sure your words are spelled correctly. Every article submitted is read carefully and whatever grammatical, spelling and other changes necessary are made; but making these corrections can get very time consuming and delays the production of ESP! Think of these as Writers' Guidelines for ESP! They're not cast in stone and we won't reject a submission because it doesn't conform to our guidelines. ESP! needs all the original articles it can get! But anything our writers can do to help us spend less time in the actual production of ESP! to gives us *more* time to search for authors to provide us with original stories and other articles would be *greatly* appreciated! Thank you! !}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}!}
