Makes Its Debut - {} By: Acolyte Brynne Here it is! The first issue of ESP!, the newest publication to hit the Newstand! Does Kymer really *need* another publication? Perhaps not but then again, perhaps it does. Only time will tell! My primary goal for ESP! is simple: to provide you, the Avatar citizen of Kymer, with a vehicle to share the stories of your adventures in Kymer and your dreams for its future. We are in the process of making history. Every happening becomes a part of that history. This is an open invitation to all to be a part of this history in the making by submitting stories and articles of your experiences in Kymer and Phantasus. I may, on occasion, as I have done for this issue, take the liberty of publishing history-making posts found in the WA Community Forum here in the pages of ESP! to memorialize them and to make them a part of permanent Kymer history. Other ESP! goals are: to provide Kymerians with the most accurate and timely Schedule of Events possible and to provide a forum for game and event hosts to announce new games and events or report on the prior week's games. The "Schedule of Events in Phantasus" covers ESP!'s publication period of Monday through Sunday. Hosts are encouraged to submit listings for new games or changes in current times and dates to ESP! at the email address of 70273,373 by Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. WAT, along with a brief description of the game(s) or event(s). As Khai Joybringer says, "Love and romance abound in Phantasus!" and each week, couples are becoming engaged or joining together in the bonds of Dreamscape Matrimony. We cannot be everywhere all the time. If you would like to announce your engagement or wedding (past or future) in the pages of ESP!, please send us the information! If you are a witness to a spur-of-the-moment wedding, please let us know who the couple is, when they were wed, and by whom so we may announce it to the World so all can share the couples' joy. Engagement and wedding announcements posted in the WA Community Forum will also be picked up and published in the Engagement/Wedding Section of ESP! I invite you to write to me to share with me your impressions of this first issue of ESP! as well as your thoughts as to how its pages may be improved upon. This publication intended to be YOUR soapbox, not mine. And now, without any further ado, I present to you the premiere edition of ESP! Enjoy! {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} {} - Invitation to the Avatar Groups of Phantasus - {} By: Acolyte Brynne To the best of my knowledge, the following is a list of the Avatar groups in our fine city: Alienytes Duckolytes Frogolytes Golden Knights Golden Sorceresses Inconsistent Anarchists Knights of Kymer (SunRays, SunRay Knights) Kymer Guardians Mages Magicas Necrolytes Normalas Sharkolytes More information about each of these groups can be found in the WA Community Forum; many of them have placed files about the nature of their groups into the Forum Library. Each of these groups is invited to be represented in ESP!'s pages with regular (or semi-regular!) feature articles or columns. In the past, Headhunter Chieftain (HHC) has been known to prey on new Kymer citizens just off the Argo, promising tokens in return for their heads ... only to disappear from the locale after getting their heads in his hands. Admidst a collective sigh of relief, HHC disappeared from the streets of Phantasus some time ago. This, of course, did not prevent other thieves from doing as he did, but it did deprive them of a leader. But, alas, HHC returned this week and was once again found to be up to his old tricks. Kymerians raised their collective voices in dismay. But there are those who view HHC's return differently: Mistweave Today for the first time I met Headhunter. In my idealism, I exchanged views regarding roles in the dreamscape. The many passing ghosts will understand the depth of this understatement. Those who tried to help and warn me also will understand. Ok, I learned that individuals will take the role THEY CHOOSE. While my dream may be a little more idealistic, others choose to act out other things. We all know that a simple trip to the registry and a can or two of paint can begin a whole new experience/role for us. Tonight I discovered how unwilling some are to allow others to change without making that trip to the registry. I am sad. We have gone through so much recently. Upsets. We have talked of forgiveness and understanding, of coming together as a community. Of peace and unity. These things require an open heart, the willingness to accept differences, compassion, and perhaps some supportiveness toward others. Ok, many may believe me a fool for encouraging Headhunter to become an honest hunter. The sorrow here is how I was attacked for (encouraging) him. My intent was not to encourage him, only to help him realize he can CHOOSE to act out a different role. I am sure others have tried before. Headhunter may be a thief .... but more pain was caused this night by a candle weilding avatar. I am sorry. My intents were coming from what I believe to be an open heart, and a willingness to allow anyone to change if they choose. Dream Keeper: Mistweave, I am sorry to hear you have been harassed for your actions. I have also been harassed for talking with Headhunter Chieftain. I even received one piece of hate mail because I gave him flowers today. Please don't lose heart. I think it is important for you to be allowed to act as you desire. Like I have said before...I do not like HHC's crimes, but I do like HHC. I like him for the fact that he is another human being as well as liking his sense of humor . The very first conversation I ever had with HHC was meaningful and honest and one I remember fondly. Some of the treatment I have seen HHC receive today was far more damaging than what I have witnessed of HHC himself. Anyway, I will support you on this one. Keep your faith and your dreams . Sparhawk Mistweave, I was there for a while and you were not doing anything that someone else would not have done! I thought you handled the portion that I viewed with more diplomacy and care than many others would have invested. There will be times you feel as if you failed, but if you back away, regroup and then come back, sometimes you gain more strength than you ever had before. Please don't stop on the account of someone else! Libra Headhunter is a far more complex and profound individual than a lot of people have wanted to recognize. Unlike some of the other avatar thiefs inworld, his motivation is clearly *not* pure self enrichment. He speaks of counter-balances to a society which he feels is clearly not *well* balanced. His viewpoint is an interesting one and deserves to be explored. I do not agree or endorse his way of seeking a counter-point for our community, however I do agree with his premise that a society that is diverse and well-balanced is much stronger than one that leans entirely too much in one direction or the other. (Any martial arts expert can attest to the fact that a well-balanced, centered opponent is a difficult target to topple.) You made good progress last night in that you engaged him in conversation and allowed both yourself and those of us watching an opportunity to learn more about HHC. The more I learn of him the more I feel that we can eventually show him a different way to dream. Sparhawk The part I witnessed was really instructive - and you're right. others here are not gonna agree, but I think ..some.. progress was made. And he did have interesting points, didn't he? (Publisher's Note: The preceding Avatar comments were taken from posts made in the WA Community Forum.) So, what does HHC's return mean to the citizens of Kymer? Only time will tell. {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} {} - How to Win Friends and Influence People - {} By: Bog It's a difficult place is Kymer. Everyone rushing about, talking to their friends and generally having a good time. How do YOU the shy, retiring Avatar get yourself noticed? It's not all that hard. All it requires is determination ... and preparation. Just follow these few simple steps, and soon yours will be the name on everyone's lips, and the Avatar everyone wants to talk to. Introduce yourself! Not as dumb as it sounds. Introducing yourself properly is the key to fame. First make sure you have a suitable name. Names are important, and create that first vital impression in the minds of those in the locale. 'Chief Macho Man' is the sort of flavour you are after. Don't just walk into a locale and say "hi"; swagger in and say something like "Geez, that duck/frog/fox/dog/etc head is ugly!" You will receive the immediate attention of those around you. Heighten the atmosphere by asking how old everyone is, also enquire if there are any 'babes' in Kymer. You will the focus of attention. Enjoy it. Acolytes are good people to have on your side, but to make yourself stand out from the crowd, you must attract their attention. A good tip is to prepare a very long macro. Something along the lines of "My name is xxx. I'm 21 years old, live in California....etc" you get the picture, just make it long. Stroll into the Visitor's Centre and let rip. ESPing the Acolyte on duty with your macro will earn you extra recognition. Don't stop until you are sure they have your life history memorized. Participate! Games are also a very good place to meet people, but good timing is essential. Ghost until the host is just about to start, and then deghost. Ask "Hey what are you doing?". Follow it up with a quick "Can I play?" Don't be put off by a polite "yes of course"; demand to know where you can get the software. Pretend you've never heard of the forum. A quick run of your macro at this point won't hurt either. You may get polite requests via ESP to ghost. Ignore them; they obviously want to come down and hog YOUR limelight. Stand firm. Once again, ask if there are any 'babes' playing. By this time you should have a lot of people conversing with you. You're on your way to stardom. The community forum is a prime opportunity for almost instant recognition. Use your time there productively. Don't reply to polite messages in the same manner. Rudeness is a very effective and underused tool for the Kymer social climber. An important point to remember is: don't follow the thread. Any replies you make to postings must bear no relation to the subject under debate. A few original postings by yourself will only enhance your, by now, considerable stature. Postings such as "hi" are great, but make sure you type in upper case only. A long diatribe on the evils of thieves (in upper case remember) will endear you to the forum regulars. Take no notice of any adverse replies you may receive. You are blotting out their sun, and they are jealous. Just answer with phrases like "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT". If you can manage it, misspell and mangle the syntax of your sentences. This will take you a long way toward forum recognition. Leave! It's a sad fact of life, but careers are short and there is always someone climbing up behind you, just waiting to steal your crown. The only solution is to announce your intention to leave Kymer. Make sure this is just after a rude posting to 'All' from yourself. You will inevitably receive a few messages saying "don't go". Ignore them. and bow out at the height of your fame. A quick salvo along the lines of "YEW ARE AWL KRETINS" will ensure that your name lives forever in Kymer folklore. You are now famous but don't you feel slightly lonely? You do? Ahh! I'm afraid that is the price to pay for being popular. {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} {} - DREAD'S SPOT - {} Newbie News By: Dread Wondering what's to do, where to go, how to become a nu yu? Well, all sorts of marvelous things, everywhere and at NU YU of course. The Acolytes are kept very busy with all the Avatars arriving in Phantasus every week on the ARGO, courtesy of the Captain who seems quite content to hang around the great black hole waiting for newbies, no doubt on commission from Morpheus. Discovering the magic of the city of Phantasus is straightforward enough; but be sure to check out as many editions of the Kymer Clarion (and now the newest publication, ESP!, too!) as you can get your hands on from the library so that you'll get the feel for the place first. Then venture inworld, leave yer miserable soul suspended in the waking world and begin your idyllic existence in a world that's not just galaxies away, but in another dimension. For those who are already spirits, check out the most popular world for reincarnation so far this year. Apparent to note, from previous editions of the Clarion, Kymer can send avatars crashing back to the waking world. Whether the great Morpheus has anything to do with this is doubtful; rumour has it that an evil glitch reportedly sent by the SERVER can do this from the waking world. Still, I don't know if the Oracles have tracked the glitch down yet but from what I gather it attacks unfortunates who only have a meager 8 RAM. It can't harm me as I'm running on a supercomputer he he! If it happens to you check out the new file that will appear on your disc - coldlog.txt, to confirm that you were linked out. If you're a seasoned adventurer like my good self and have been searching for that ultimate experience since the very big cave adventure, then you've most certainly arrived in the right world. And no, you can't reach Kymer from Monkey Island, I've tried it, I had my own boat there, mon - I know it's impossible. I also discovered that the world IS flat, in other dimensions anyway. The difference of Dreamscape is the atmosphere - Yes there is plenty of H20 and the fact that there are always blue skies in Kymer probably indicates that the poles are reversed in this world but that's not what I meant. There is no Largo to worry about. Morpheus has created a world where we can all be at peace and experience a lifestyle envied by the waking world. " All right Dread get on with it !!! " ( <---- was that an ESP?) Inworld then: Behaving like the ideal citizen doesn't require effort at all, it comes from the heart. The Acolytes are there to help you and ensure that, should you ESP them with a complaint, the evil glitch clone will be sent scurrying to digital purgatory. The City is continually expanding to accommodate the ever increasing population but Morpheus assures that the scope of Dreamscape is more enjoyable than ever. Imagine life before the BAR opened! Anyway, to set the scene, I arrived in Kymer just two days ago - this was my first experience: Acolytes> Hi Dread (several times) Don't you want to speak to us? Type the words in then hit (CR) "Hi all" (I finally got it together) Not quite sure what I wanted to talk about, I mentioned to Peppone that I was hungry, who said he could do with a nose-bag and a beer to wash it down. "Okay I'll follow you then Peppone - I'm new if you haven't already guessed" The next thing we were in a cafe, but no food, tables or anything reminiscent of a cafe I must say. We were told to try the vendroids in the icy forest for food and drink. Unfortunately, en-route, we hit upon an area full of other avatars that wiped me off the screen. I watched Peppone walk through with no problem. I eventually realised that I had *ghosted* and I didn't see Peppone again, I was on my own again - Sorry Peppone, I had only been in Phantasus for half an hour.... I found myself on my own again, outside the temple practising facial gestures and gesticulating wildly until I investigated the eye. Wow.. There were four ghosts watching me - Yikes! I left pretty fast out of sheer embarasment. I changed back to my Avatar when I stumbled across the BAR. How was I supposed to know that Morpheus hasn't got around to hiring barstaff yet. I stood at the bar, my tiny futile brain wondering how to get a drink. " Anyone there, can I have a drink please " " GARCON!" " Si'l vouz Plais " Fed up and disheartened at my failures I decided to hang around one locale (can't remember where it was). It was there that I met Bach and Dexter. " I'm looking for a new head, seen this wicked carrot head that I like - I've got to have it," (JUMPING CHILD-LIKE) but I've only got 150T how do I get more?" BACH: You can try begging DEXTER: Or start a business using the yellow pages (check out yellow.txt) DREAD: I want the head now not next month DEXTER: Okay, there is a way - look in your pockets DREAD: Wow, you gave me some tokens, thanks BACH: Yeah, me too Dread, look again DEXTER: It's not much but it's a start BACH: Maybe you can do the same for a newbie one day DREAD: Sure will, hey thanks guys, I'll put on my list of friends. I had almost 400T and a few other kind avatars crossed my palm too after that. Now I have the tokens for a carrot head, unfortunately I lost my way and stumbled across a valentine garden where four other avatars are talking about a wedding and there is a large chest in the center laying open. What's in the chest, I wonder. Rather than get in the way I decide to pick it up and examing it at a more private locale. Then, to my horror, my screen went wild with annotation. "OI DREAD WHAT D'YOU THINK YOU'RE UP TO " "YEAH PUT IT BACK NOW! " "I DON'T BELIEVE IT! A THIEF, STEALING RIGHT UNDER OUR VERY OWN EYES - WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT! " "Who me," I replied, kinda guilt ridden, "what have I done?" All of a sudden I'm the focus of attention right. Just hope to God the bride and groom weren't in the middle of getting married just then. I return the chest as quickly as I can then say to everyone: "Sorry, I'm new around here, I though I was just being cool." OKAY DREAD, NO OFFENCE INTENDED, NONE TAKEN Pheeeww... that was close shave. Anyway, fellow citizens, by the time you read, this I'll still be looking for that precious head and checking out the latest on these worthless tokens lying around (whatever they turn out to be), so if you see me in the street be sure to say hello, I am approachable; and DREAD, in case you were wondering, is not synonymous with the word *hate*. In this world it means *cool*. Meet all you newbie dudes soon, until then - keep smiling. {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} {} - The Gamer's Guide to Etiquette - {} By: Christopher Storm Following is a little look into some of the etiquette a player can show a host at the many events that take place around Phantasus. It is meant in a lighthearted manner, but perhaps you can use some of the information to make a host's life more pleasant. 1. The player will follow all directions given by the event host. 2. Upon hearing a general call for everyone to ghost, the player will comply in a prompt manner without asking the question "Why?". It may be assumed that the host's reasons behind the request are in the best interest of the event. 3. Upon entering a locale where there is a single avatar apparently talking to him/herself, one should check the cloud for number of ghosts. A large number of ghosts usually indicates an event is in progress, and the newcomer should promptly ghost, or at the very least, await instructions from the host. When instructions are given (such as "please ghost!"), the avatar will comply knowing that even if they do not wish to play, remaining on screen creates an interruption for all those who do. 4. Upon arriving at an event in progress, a new player should wait until the host has completed their present task (round, or something of the like) and then ask for instructions. 5. Players should refrain from ESPing the host of an event unless it is a required task of the event. This refers to starting up a conversation or voicing some form of complaint (see #6 below). Please realize that the host is very busy running the event and dealing with other ESPs, and this does not mean they are being rude. Also note that the occasional joke, or comment is perfectly welcome, as it alleviates some of the stress the host had to deal with. Some hosts in fact, may survive off such comments! 6. Please do not ESP with yells, moans, wails, cries or otherwise express the host to "Hurry Up!" Be assured that the host is doing everything in his/her power to keep the event running smoothly and efficiently, and such comments only distract hosts and slow them down. Furthermore, they may fully realize that "I have to go!", but everyone at the event is working on a different timetable, and a single player's desires to speed it up cannot be catered to. 7. Please do not conduct other business on the sight of the event, as this merely serves to distract both players and host alike. (See #8 below) 8. It is perfectly acceptable to make an announcement at an event, but you should always check with the host beforehand. 9. If you are the generous type of player who likes to assist hosts, thereby relieving some of their stress, feel free to ask if they would like some help. Most hosts prefer only one assistant, however, so as to keep the ground open for players unghosting to bet, race, or any other such thing. 10. Do *NOT* participate in an event only to disrupt it. Everyone is welcome to their opinion; but if you do not like the event being held, simply do not attend it. Not all events appeal to all people, but by respecting the other players' choice to participate, you ensure that they respect yours to play in events more to your liking. GOLDEN RULE: Please understand that event hosts are using their time to both prepare and run the event. Their purpose in doing so is to bring some fun into Phantasus and there is usually little or no gain for them by doing so. Do not be under the impression that they are making a profit, because they don't. And they spend their real world dollars to make the event possible. Please respect that at all times, and even if you dislike the event in question, realize the effort the host has put into organizing and running it. {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} {} - Create A Game Contest - {} By: Chief Duckolyte Mage Brains The Duckolytes will be sponsoring a contest this month to allow you a chance to create a game. We are looking for creative ideas on how to use a lockable chest. The obvious way would be to hide it and do something similar to the MAD event. I have several ideas myself, but thought it would be very interesting to see what the creative minds of Kymer can come up with. The avatar with the most creative fun idea will be awarded a Pink Baby Bear. Background information: Lockable chests can not be pawned, so they are of little use to anyone but the owner. They can only be opened by the owner of the chest. The contest does rely on avatars returning it to the host, or the host being present when opening the chest. Keep this in mind when thinking of a game. Rules: Games should be limited to two hours of play, and more points go to ideas that include a monthly winner as well. Ideas should be submitted with the following information: Name of event Objectives of the game Rules of the game The deadline for ideas is March 22. Because Kymer avatars cover all time zones, races will be held at different times during the inaugural month of March. We will be hosting the events to provide everyone an opportunity to play. All Duckolyte sponsored events are hosted in both English and German. A regularly established time will be set for the following months. When Turfs arrive, they will be held in the Duckolyte Hall. To follow tradition, they will be hosted in front of Isle Caribe until such time that Turfs become available. We follow all of the standard rules for ghost racing documented in the GHOSTG.TXT file found in the forum. Several races with variations will take place on race day and will be explained at that time. Please pay close attention to these variations. The two special races for the month of March are Box Racing and Screen Racing. The rules are as follows: Box Racing Rules: Rules for Box Racing are simple. When the host disappears from the screen ... and only when the host disappears from the screen, everyone will try to grab the item out of the box. The box is left on the ground open. This is like regular races but with a small twist. It requires an extra mouse movement that currently does not exist with regular races. You must give the host what is in the box in order to claim the prize. The prize is always better than what is in the box. Screen Racing Rules: This one is a little more complicated. The host and assistant will put three sealed boxes on the ground. You must grab a box and be the first one to give it to the assistant on the next screen to the right. The first one to do so will win the prize. The assistant will verify the box contents. He will inform the host and all racers of the winner. Prizes include a wide assortment of rare and current items, tokens, and heads. There will be a special prize awarded to the Monthly Champion. Monthly Champions from the prior two months are not eligible for these prizes to try to make it fair for everyone. This includes Acolyte Serena's and Holger's races. The first two races are scheduled for Sunday, March 10 at 7:00 a.m. WAT and Wednesday March 13 at 6:00 p.m. WAT. Please watch the schedule closely for the remaining dates. Chief Duckolyte Mage Brains will be hosting, with Chief Duckolyte Renegade assisting on the first two races. Please join us. Everyone is welcome. Avatars everywhere were carrying light blue candles in honor of Unity Weekend in Phantasus. While all week long, Avatars were carrying candles, Friday and Saturday evenings, March 1-2, were the focal point. Many Avatars participated by handing out candles and paints, explaining the concept behind Unity Weekend to those who had just arrived off the Argo. To name even a few Avatars would be to leave out the many who were among those who gave generously of their time and their tokens. But we could not write the meaning of Unity Weekend any better than did Earendil: A light-blue candle has been adopted as the symbol of unity; however, I emphasize that it is a symbol and not a badge. One does not need a candle or other symbol to believe in or demonstrate our oneness as a community. Your presence alone does that. Our community will only thrive if there is diversity within it, and expecting, or even asking, everyone to embrace a single symbol is to threaten that diversity. Dream well! Thank you to the Avatars who saw a need to heal our Community after the divisive events of the previous weekend and took the necessary steps to help us all continue to live our dreams. {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} {} - Knights Of Kymer TechTrivia - {} By: SunRay Hera Last week's TechTrivia game was hosted by SunRay Hera and Knight Alexis.
