Encyclopaedia Orellia: Data File 008 - Technos: Recent History

When the Human colonists who accidentally discovered the Orellian system first began to explore Technos, they quickly realised this artificial world might hold the key to continuing the construction of the Dyson Sphere the Chi'kkren began possibly thousands of years ago.

Certainly, despite the day to day dangers of exploring this planet, the colonists have found artefacts, many of which have been repaired and utilised, such as the dimension gate to VZones. In some cases these devices have even improved to maintain and expand the Expressway system -- the Skyhook infrastructure -- which connects the planets.
But mystery still surrounds the look and society of the aliens who started to build this possibly unique system, and what happened to them.

Apart from theories that the Chi'kkren disappeared into one of the many dimensional portals discovered on Orell and Harvax for other universes or times, one major artefact on Technos suggests another possibility...
The surface of Technos is dominated by a 15-kilometre high tower, its foundations plunging straight to the core of this alien-made planet (which has enabled corridors and room around those foundations to be extensively explored).

This tower, nicknamed The Spike, appears not only to gather the power which drives the unexplained energies of dimensional portals such as that used to access VZones, but also acts as a gigantic light particle accelerator.

Experiments with RoboDrones would seem to indicate that a ship ejected from its 'summit' is thrown into hyperspace - or a similar dimension - enabling travel to another location many millions of miles from Orell.

Unfortunately, despite programming the RoboDrones with substantial Artificial Intelligence, none of them have yet returned to Technos after dispatch. Speculation is rife that this hyper - corridor connection may lead to the new centre of the alien empire, or another Dyson Sphere.
No personned flights have been made via 'The Spike'.

The surface of Technos is covered with giant hangars where spacecraft of all types can be housed and repaired. Some alien craft have been found and catalogued and transferred to the Science Museum on Orell. Beneath the planet's surface a maze of rooms, some still blocked off by doors of as yet impenetrable material, has offered up countless alien artefacts.
These include short range teleport bracelets, chameleon technology (enabling the wearer to change their likeness), communications equipment and hand - held devices which can open dimensional portals when correctly activated and coded.

Security Alert: Many areas of Technos, including its defensive grid which still destroys incoming space debris, have been declared off limits to the general public and only guided tours are allowed.
