VZSciFi Datafile: Highlander Highlander: Endgame, the fourth movie in the franchise is due for release on 1 September in the US. Official Site: Go Kalisto Entertainment announce the development of online Highlander The critically-acclaimed games developer Kalisto Entertainment has acquired the exclusive worldwide rights for the production and development of video games based on the movie and TV series of Highlander. For the first time, thousands of gamers will simultaneously experience the Highlander adventure on the Internet, able to immerse themselves into an interactive mythical universe. The online game developed by Kalisto's Bordeaux-based studio will follow the path of the highly successful movies and television series viewed by millions worldwide. Kalisto feel the inherent themes and appeal of the Highlander franchise has a strong empathy for the general public and fits perfectly to online adaptations (over 450 amateur web sites are registered on the Highlander Web ring). "We aim to offer the huge base of net-surfer community fans of the immortal warriors epic a highly interactive gaming experience," saysy Henri Magalon, Kalisto's Online Director, "In which they will experience new exciting emotions in the Highlander legend." Peter Davis of Davis / Panzer Productions, producers of the Highlander films and television series, stated: "We are delighted to be partnered with Kalisto, the foremost on-line game developer in the world today. We are confident that our partnership will result in making the Highlander legend into the ultimate online gaming experience." The acquisition of the rights to Highlander is seen as an essential part of Kalisto's overall online strategy, with the company offering high quality interactive content for all new online media. The company forecasts 50 per cent of its turnover to be generated online by 2002. Created in 1990 by its President, Nicolas Gaume, Kalisto is a global company employing 250 people, with headquarters in Bordeaux, France and offices in Paris, America, Japan, China and the UK. With innovative content creation Kalisto has expanded its game franchises to a wide range of media in the entertainment sector including, books, cinema and television. Successful franchise and game releases include Dark Earth, Nightmare Creatures, Ultimate Race, and more recently, Nightmare Creatures 2 and 4 Wheel Thunder.
